Having owned Corvettes for over 40 years, since I was 17, I can't imagine not having a manual transmission. Sorry Victor, I cant agree :) a Vette lets you smile from start to the end of the day ( and in Germany the most people, who see her -except Porsche etc drivers :) ).
Hahahaha manual is crazy is a killer my friend is having your entire body attach to the corvette . I got a z06 manual and I will never go for an auto transmisión , is like loosing the point of a sport vehicle
I'd have to disagree. To me a manual will always be more engaging to drive. I got rid of my Lexus ISF after a year because I got bored of the auto transmission.
Such an amazing car. I've always been an import lover....until I hopped in my buddy's C7 Z06 with the Z51 performance package..... most absolute terrifying and funnest ride along I've ever been in. Doing 140+ feels so smooth and stable on the freeway.....felt like a normal car doing 70. I respect the Z06 Z51 for life
I used to daily a C5 Corvette when I was 20 and I know several people who still do. They are surprisingly practical sports cars. Reliable, plenty of space and storage, gas milage isn't horrible at highway speeds, and they can put a big smile on your face whenever you like! 😁
10 years ago, I still remember the experience driving my fathers C5 Corvette for the first time. I use to daily an RSX Type-S with Bolt-ons at the time pushing 220whp but the C5 was my first attempt at american muscle and I honestly fell in love with the LS series ever since. It felt like I driving my very first budget super car. There's just nothing like the sound and feel of the LS. The corvette is definitely what I would consider an american icon. A legacy I'm passing onto my kids. Love the channel, keep up the good content.
I really wish they hadn't of nerfed the RSX suspension. The Integra with double wishbone was so much better to modify for handling/track. That K20 in the RSX was awesome though, especially the later model years that came with the updated cams and stuff.
I like that you're from Canada. I'm a U.S. citizen living up here in Canada. I own both the Viper GTS and Corvette Z06/07...... I drive the Vette all winter long with studded snow tires on it.........it's brilliant. Come on out to SK this winter and you can do a review of the car in -30C weather :)
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. I have a C7 Z 51 manual and it is even more outstanding than I ever thought it would be to drive! Great review of these two beautiful cars. Thank you also for giving the seven speed manual the accolades that it deserves.

I recently bought a C7-Z51 with the more exciting manual shift a couple of weeks after about two hours of viewing the C8 on TH-cam and the initial excitement wore off. My C7-Z51 is literally!!! horrifying from 0 -- 60 that reduces to extreme excitement followed by sheer pleasure of driving a very, very cool C7 Corvette Stingray with ground effects etc and a manual. Cops follow me a lot, so I have to resist the temptation to accelerate too often except in certain location and situation like entering a freeway with fast oncoming traffic giving me the excuse to accelerate terrifyingly fast. And it is so very beautiful to just look at in my driveway that I have to force myself to go inside my house. I do not require a Z06 as the Z51 package and standard shifting is quite stimulating to accelerate and drive just for the pleasure of it that is the reason I bought it.
I recently bought a z51 as well. I was contemplating z06 but didn't fit in my budget. I was in the market for FType SVR. I do miss the quick acceleration and sound of the Ftype but z51 is still super loud and does give the sports car feel.
It's to bad GM doesn't give the GS Corvette more power. Somewhere around 550 would be perfect. Then they'd have the Stingray at 460, GS at 550, Z06 at 650 and ZR1 at 755. Heads/cam/headers - 550+ bhp pretty easy on a base c7 or GS. LMR packages with heads/cam/headers/AFM delete and a tune are getting 600hp for $10k, would be less if you do the work yourself. Really appealing option now that the base model c7 is going for around $35k used and I would be a lot less concerned about picking up a used base model than a used z06.

I drove a C5 Z05 Daily for 5 years. Previous owner dailied it for 6. 313K miles on the clock, no major malfunctions, and a dyno shows that it makes every horsepower it did new. Also, I threw it around Big Willow in 1:38.8, so it's not like the suspension was tired either. Drove it cross country twice, and on god knows how many road trips with the wife. Such a great car. If my new Z51 didn't claim it's parking spot in my garage, I'd still have it!
Thank you for hitting all of the points I have been wondering about when deciding to get a Stingray or Z06. I too prefer a manual over auto, purely for the driving experience. Nice review. Much appreciated!
Good job Marcus; you describe the character of these cars very well. I couldn’t agree with you more, which is why my money went for a C7 Grand Sport with the manual, a “sweet spot” Corvette if there ever was one. Cheers!
After several test drives I had to go with the Manual. So much more fun! And Rev Match is enhanced on the stick! Yes the automatic is faster and I lost a few races due to not precise shifting. But I'll still take the manual all day! This car is so fast I don't need the slight increased speed of the automatic.
After driving for 41 years and about 34 of those years in manuals I've switched to automatic and i don't miss much at all. Maybe revving the engine but i certainly don't feel less connected to the car or that the driving experience was diminished in any way. I also feel faster, i can paddle shift and engine brake, get the same noise downshifting too. I used to say the same thing about manual driving but i was wrong auto is just fine for me. Yeah I'm getting old too but not too old lol.
Nothing wrong with an automatic. The technology in the C7s will keep the smile on your face for quite awhile. I’ve got a manual C6 Z06 and and automatic C7 stingray and they are both loads of fun.
I will never buy an auto again ... soul-crushing boring (you won't even realize it until u get back into a manual and realize what you missed) ... autos are for the obese ppl who want to sip on their sugar poison drinks and mindlessly chat on their phones and drive like blind grandma until they get into another slow speed senile accident ruining the flow of traffic for 1000s of other ppl and jacking up everyone's insurance rates. Serious drivers need manuals. For the inattentive, enjoy ur self driving cars. Autos may be faster in straight line but manuals make u a better, more focused driver. Also, the world doesn't need anymore grandpa's driving 10miles under the speed limit because they lost the vision and balls to go fast.
Roads Untraveled Man, you couldn't be more wrong about people daily driving older Corvettes. My friend and I both daily drove C5 Corvettes in our early 20's, his was actually a Z06. On top of that, I knew at least 4 other guys from a Corvette club that daily drove C5 and C6 Corvettes. The C5 interior is not THAT bad, people exaggerate things... it is extremely comfortable, even on long rides and the interior holds up remarkably well if you know how to take care of it. I loved daily driving my C5, it was a better commuter than many "normal" cars I've owned or driven and I'll probably get another one someday.
Cool video, I love the Z06 but in all honesty i couldn't justify the price increase from a Z51. I have 2 other boosted cars and i felt like the next car i got should be a proper NA motor. Heads, cam, headers, porter TB/intake manifold and a proper tune would be pretty much all I'd ever need. Best part is I get to do it myself and enjoy.
I have a Z51 and it's been my daily driver for the last 2 years and literally the most amazing street car ever, or at least up there for daily reliability and drivablility with sick performance! Definitely recommend them to anyone that is in the market! About to get into a z06 soon so definitely excited!!
Practically, not much difference on a day-to-day basis for commuting, but when it comes to track performance or high speed spirited driving it does have its merits. The Z51 package has 2 extra inter-coolers in the rear side vents, and they are functional. One of the vents has a transmission cooler, and the other has a rear differential cooler which is a major necessity for hardcore driving/ track driving. Basically they are z06 inter-coolers in each vent in the rear. It also usually comes with magnetic ride control, which is one of the highest technology suspensions in the market.
@@HerrinSchadenfreude From what i can tell, you get magnetic suspension standard (which is totally awesome), HUD, Better cooling (probably not that important on a daily unless you sit in traffic a lot), and bigger wheels.
I've daily driven a C6 Z51 6speed for years ... over 80K and it hibernates in the garage every winter. A C6 makes a great daily driver. You should try it.
Excellent video that really presented the absolute speed in driving these corvettes....you ve got a real future in youtubing as most guys have great difficulty in projecting that speed thats actually occuring.
I am absolutely in love with the new Z06. I can’t get past its looks and sound of it. Even tho it’s the NEW model. It’s the best looking of them all. It looks more aggressive than the last model and performs better than the last. And not just that it’s also in the running for being in the same class as the Ferrari 458, McLaren 570s/650s and the Lamborghini Huracan especially for how much it is. It’s definitely my dream car
@13:30 I UPSHIFT just to DOWNSHIFT all the time in my C7 Z51!!!! No Active Rev Match b/c I needed to learn the car's RPM range, so if I'm shifting down 1 or 2 gears then I need to know the taps. I am still working on my heel toe technique, but when I get that down........I'm gonna be like Matt Farah in the hills!
I was going to buy a low mileage C7 Corvette this year but with the covid 19 pandemic I'm probably going to wait till spring I've been leaning towards the Z06 but after watching your video I'm really thinking about a stingray Z51 package with a manual transmission Thanks for the great video you really hit it on the head most videos are strictly Z06 vs. ZR1
Love love love your videos. I think a better comparison if given the opportunity should have been the c7 grand sport. Because it has the styling and all the sportiness handling and breaks of the z06 without the super charger. Also you can get the z06 in manual as well
My dad has the z51 manual it is a blast to drive. From putting it in track mode and rev match it’s so much fun. To drive in rain and turning on weather mode it just very cool how it very easy to control this car on any level of driving. Just the stock tires do not like to hook on cold days it’s same as track mode in the rain.
Even though I like the C7 Z06/ZR1 more he might have sold me one the Z51 package. It’s been a dream of mine to get a vette and being newly divorced it just might be in my future. I also love the C6 Z06 and for about the same price a C6 ZO6 and C7 Z51 Run pretty similar. My bugaboo is the removable top. Can’t get that option on the C6. I could just see me on a Sunday taking the top off and going driving all day! Definitely think I would go manual!
Corvette owners daily drove 3rd and 4th generation Corvettes going back to the 70's and 80's all the time. I know a Corvette owner that daily drove his 6th generation, even in the winter snow.
OMG, the first video I've seen in which the driver shift then puts his hand BACK ON THE WHEEL. Nice! Good for you. I am currently trying to decide between a Z51 and Z06. The roughly $17k price difference is not nothing to me so... Must have a manual and the magnetic shocks.
The Grandsport is where GM made a mistake . It had to be 500 hp like the ls7 to separate it from the stingray . Now it’s only the body ,tires and 5 hp? Come on man 😂😂😂 . Nice video bro ... Good music , beautiful mountains, great racetrack, awesome cars! Wtf do you want more❤️❤️❤️❤️
One of the finest videos I've seen and right where I am in my car selection. Trading my 2016 Z07 for the 2019 Z51 Stingray. This helped ease my mind !!
I own a C7 Z06 manual and a C8 HTC Z51 automatic and I’m a total manual guy but the C8 automatic is awesome no hesitation like the C7 automatic. I was hoping the C8 Z06 was going to have a manual option but doesn’t sound like it. I won’t ever sell my C7 Z06 manual.
Yeah I was salty for a minute over the tail lights being changed, but I like them they way they are now, and it still doesn’t take long to realize when you’re behind a Stingray you’re in the presence of a Corvette.
Haven’t driven a C7 Z06 but I can concur that my C7 Z51 7 speed is a blast. If I upgrade, it will be to C7 Z06 7 speed and not a C8. Never say never, but I gotta have a manual. Soooo much more engaging driving experience.
I'd gladly give up .1 seconds faster 0-60mph (because u won't notice it and you'd be lying if you did) for a manual which is 10 times more fun. It's all about the fun.
@MrMr: automatic drivers look for excuses. I was in Paris and Belgium a month ago and everybody drove stick (even my rental minivan Renault Grand Scenic), and trust me you haven't seen traffic like this and I'm from LA.
If u suck at driving stick, then it sucks even when there's no traffic. I was in Paris and Belgium a month ago and yes there was heavy traffic but driving stick is 2nd nature to me so no biggie along with 99% of other stick drivers there.
Really LOVE what you said at the end ., adding to that 90% of the time we don’t use 90% of the power ., a manual Corvette is way different to an auto yet model to model doesn’t change driving much ., a manual 650 is about same as a manual M6 yet if either an auto the experience differs greatly 👍🏼👍🏿👍🏽
To further my comment. I really wanted to purchase a Z06 after waiting so long to be able to afford a new corvette, but a very good friend who is extremely knowledgeable within the corvette building suggested the grand sport would be the better choice for me for a host of reasons. Yes the Z06 has that wonderful power but he advised the grand sport is the better balanced car all round and will always put a smile on your face and will be much harder to kill your self in. By the way great video and I am Canadian too.
I had the Z51 A8 and now have the z06 A8. Both are great cars. Honestly, the. Z51 sounded "better," but z06 is louder. Both sound good though. Mostly got 4.5 0 to 60 with z51, mostly get 3.5 with z06. Both of those times spinning a little at launch.
Yes. Sometimes the slower car can be more enjoyable. I use to own a 2018 ZL1 and a 2013 Boss 302. Looking back at those two cars the Boss 302 was more enjoyable to drive than the ZL1 IMO. It felt more raw although the ZL1 was faster and handled better. I had to be more alert with the Boss 302 because it was more snappy.
I have a C7 Z51 automatic, i love it. Once you get the timing right on the shifts in manual mode its a blast to drive. Plus the benefit of tossing it in touring mode and not having to run the gears heading to the store or sitting in traffic. C7 is a fantastic car, I'm typing this just as the 2021 mid engines are coming out and ill take the C7 over the C8 any day. If i could go back in time to when this video was made id love to let them know the C8 only comes in automatic :-)
I love how you said that it's "hunting for gears" in the Auto.... I can't stand that feeling and it makes it sound like you have no clue how to drive... Won't trade my manual gearbox for ANYTHING, EVER....
I own a admiral blue c7 z51 and it packs 460 or 470hp and honestly it’s a vette it looks cool, sounds cool, and still packs a punch so I’m not concerned honestly I love all corvettes👍 It also is a 7 speed manual and I wanted a Z06 but can’t find any manuals so that’s also another reason…
Great vs video, I like your style for sure. I own a C7 Z06 auto trans and love it, however if it weren't for my wife wanting the auto, I would have bought the manual! I absolutely love that rev match too!
...Well I disagree with the embellishment on the C7 interior over the C6. I don't think this kid has seen a 3 or 4LT interior trim level on a C6 because with the 4LT you get leather wrapped doors and dash that you do not get on this C7 in the video (or some other supercars), also the interior of the C7 is still very plastic! I personally prefer the chrome accents and glossy 'fake' carbon fiber centre console of the 2008-2014 c6 better. And, rattles? I don't think so buddy, I've had my 2008 for 6 years now and after i had the dealer fix the targa top squeak when i bought it, there isn't a sound. its tight as new. I dunno, i suppose there are some people that don't take care of their vette and that causes rattles, not sure, and maybe the base models look cheap with all the missing buttons on the steering wheel and around the instrument cluster, but overall the C6 shouldn't be looked down upon as a shitty track racer. Im POSITIVE most are like mine and most owners would agree. I do agree that none of the vettes are like german cars when it comes to fit and finish quality, but they are not any worse than anything else either.
Ha, ha... I got a Z51 stick, and I can’t help myself from keeping rev match on permanently and downshifting through every gear anytime I hit a stoplight. It’s fun 😅...
All you have to do with an automatic stick it in paddle shifters mode and you get the same exhaust notes, because it's the same as using a manual stick. I have a automatic and it does exactly as a manual. I just use my paddle shifters. And the good thing about having an automatic is it gives you that extra horsepower when it comes to shifting when you're racing people on the highway, because if you have a manual every time you go to shift you lose momentum, but if you have an automatic it's a steady shift. I would take paddle shifters over a manual any day. I grew up on stick shift I'm sick of it, plus you lose too many races
Having owned Corvettes for over 40 years, since I was 17, I can't imagine not having a manual transmission. There's just something about left foot-right hand coordination when stomppin' on the gas...oh what a feelin'! It can't be imitated even with an auto and paddles.

Manual, no one wants a sports card in automatic, unless they cant drive stick, or they are lazy.

What's the practical difference driving and power wise between the Stingray and the Z51 Stingray? I happened to get the regular one.
I daily drive my C6Z06 except when it is snowing or at freezing temperature and below.
Great comparison, thanks. Still feeling as though the GS is the one to have.
Beautifully shot and the commentary was spot on!
6:21 Save the manuals! Awesome video! Both sound beastly.
*We need to get therapists for you manual transmission fetishists....*
COMRADE DONALD TRUMP Yes! And your opinion on the internet is the only valid one! Cheers! 🙋♂️
@@jerrybillings3039 drive an electric if you want a pedal crusher car.
After seeing the C8 reveal last year, I immediately purchased the C7 Z06.
You pick the better car because the C7 ZO6 has a real trunk
I agree. I think the C7 Z06 Corvette looks better than past generations.
Perfect for getting the groceries 😃
I was going to buy a low mileage C7 Corvette this year but with the covid 19 pandemic I'm probably going to wait till spring I've been leaning towards the Z06 but after watching your video I'm really thinking about a stingray Z51 package with a manual transmission Thanks for the great video you really hit it on the head most videos are strictly Z06 vs. ZR1
Most underrated channel of all time! Love it dude
False myth on interiors "falling apart" on C5s and C6s...maybe for C4s.
Independence City Motoring my c5 interior was in good shape 15 years later with 150k miles on it
Such an awesome video! I would love to drive a Z06 someday!
Adam Houston oh what Adam!? Nice to see you here 😆
Corvette owners daily drove 3rd and 4th generation Corvettes going back to the 70's and 80's all the time.
Wtf do you want more❤️❤️❤️❤️
Ok I can hit he like button..i forgot how much I love corvettes raw American muscle
Everytime i see this channel, i think Roads Unraveled would be a better name.
One of the finest videos I've seen and right where I am in my car selection. Trading my 2016 Z07 for the 2019 Z51 Stingray. This helped ease my mind !!
Just out of curiosity why would you do that?
I picked a 2019 Z06 black on black coupe! Stage 3 aero-
AUTOMATIC "Of Course"....... 😊❤
çok güzel video cekimler ve geçişler arasındaki sesler yani edit mükemmel. emeğinize sağlık. hiç bu arabaları alamasamda girip girip izliyorum.
I have a Z06 with a manual. Incredible.
Yeah I was salty for a minute over the tail lights being changed, but I like them they way they are now, and it still doesn’t take long to realize when you’re behind a Stingray you’re in the presence of a Corvette.
Oh daddy. THIS IS SOO LIT!!!!!!!!
Clorox Bleach lol I see you everywhere on TH-cam
Best Corvette video ever!
Haha thanks :D I still have never driven a C5 Corvette. I promise i'll make that video epic.
Haven’t driven a C7 Z06 but I can concur that my C7 Z51 7 speed is a blast. If I upgrade, it will be to C7 Z06 7 speed and not a C8. Never say never, but I gotta have a manual. Soooo much more engaging driving experience.
Got myself a z51 2019 n i couldnt b happier. Its automatic too
TheMGSpy I just bought a 2019z51 I love it
Add the carbon fiber instrument panel, sport seats and full leather doors/dash and you will see how nice the interior can be.
Great video! And agreed! Which is why I own one!
I'd gladly give up .1 seconds faster 0-60mph (because u won't notice it and you'd be lying if you did) for a manual which is 10 times more fun. It's all about the fun.
@MrMr: automatic drivers look for excuses. I was in Paris and Belgium a month ago and everybody drove stick (even my rental minivan Renault Grand Scenic), and trust me you haven't seen traffic like this and I'm from LA.
just because people deal with it doesn't mean it doesn't suck lol
If u suck at driving stick, then it sucks even when there's no traffic. I was in Paris and Belgium a month ago and yes there was heavy traffic but driving stick is 2nd nature to me so no biggie along with 99% of other stick drivers there.
The only way I would want an automatic vette is if I lived in a large city and had a lot of commuting in stop and go city traffic...
@@ogmechsftw The autorev matching makes driving in traffic a lot better.
I really love the way the quad exhausts are laid out to the rear end. And, overall, it is just a beautiful car.
Fun video to watch! Great job editing as well...
SMASHED THAT LIKE BUTTON!
That's a proper Corvette review...
Nice!!!
Thanks! :D Was a great day. We did a C8 review about a year ago if you'd like to check that out.
@@RoadsUntraveled thank you..
I'll do that
Couldn’t agree more , Amen 🙏🏽 & thank you for your honesty.
Well done. Couldn't agree more.
manul if you want to feel the freedom of owning your driving and a feeling of knowing what u are doing this id the way to go
If the Z06 has the 10 speed auto from the ZL1 camaro, then that right there is the perfect combo!
loved the commentary. great video
Autos are for chics...
I agree....manual is the way to go!
Great review!!
I own a c7 z51 8 speed auto and I will be taking it to LMR to get that Z06 power 🔋 💪
Excellent video. Thank you.
Brink of Speed the Rev match is pretty glorious
Edward Jackson yes sir it is!
Super good edit
Manual is the ONLY transmission
A vette is A vette I have a C5 Z06 and I think it’s a true classic an American muscle. Today vettes are more like Europen made auto.
For those of you who have driven the 7 speed with active rev match, how does it compare to a normal manual. More or less fun and engaging?
i have C7 manual with rev match and never use it.
@@tmichael39 interesting, I'd like to try it and see if it's even fun.
No slower is never better!!! BUT a vette is a vette
...Well I disagree with the embellishment on the C7 interior over the C6.
Superb job!
Ha, ha... I got a Z51 stick, and I can’t help myself from keeping rev match on permanently and downshifting through every gear anytime I hit a stoplight. It’s fun 😅...
Awesome video!
Id love to see a review on a c6 ZR1 in the future...a lot more raw then the c7 z06
Incredible video this will definitely help me make my decision about trading in my Z51 for a z06
MY LAST CAR WAS A VETTE C5 WAS NOT SO NICE - WHAT IS BETTER? C7 Zo6? OR? IS IT FOR GERMAN OKAY?
What exhaust work was done in the stingray?
What is the exhaust work done on the stingray?
All you have to do with an automatic stick it in paddle shifters mode and you get the same exhaust notes, because it's the same as using a manual stick. I have a automatic and it does exactly as a manual. I just use my paddle shifters. And the good thing about having an automatic is it gives you that extra horsepower when it comes to shifting when you're racing people on the highway, because if you have a manual every time you go to shift you lose momentum, but if you have an automatic it's a steady shift. I would take paddle shifters over a manual any day. I grew up on stick shift I'm sick of it, plus you lose too many races
