It's 2023 and still there has never been a better version of this song than Gladys Knights...I love you Gladys and your voice sends chills down my spine as I listen to those high notes!!
I just finished watching her on The VIEW, She is still one of the greatest vocalist, of my time. Her stage presence, sends me to church, and it makes me want get on the midnight train to Georgia, because she is one of the Best things that ever happened to music, and her life story should be written .
@secrets.295 I'm sorry I honestly adore Barbra. I have her albums, concerts & movies. But Gladys Knight owns this song imo. Yes, Barbra delivers her version, and has the movie, and a #1 hit. At the same time Gladys still kills it after singing it just as long. This isn't like Over the Rainbow where some consider Patti LaBelle the best version. That's just silly. That's Judy's song. Everyone knows that.
Me to I'm 66 I love her she so beautiful ,you dont get these singers anymore ,when I was a teen we only listened to motown and all the great black singers they were the best ,thank you for making our lives better
I watched here performance for the first time in Sydney. I've waited for this moment for 50 years. She still is an amazing singer at age 79. She has this magnetic voice that draws you in. She can still hit the higher notes at her age . Truly a legendary singer. Thank you Gladys for your farewell tour !!!❣️
It's always hard to narrow it down to one, but Gladys belongs in EVERY list and conversation about the greatest. Often overlooked, but she KILLS me every time! Love her!
Two greatest voices ever: Gladys Knight and Nat King Cole. The style of music may not be to everybody's taste, but quality / power of voice and the seamless key changes still give me a prickly neck. Sinatra and Dylan can go and sit in the corner until they learn how to hit or hold a note.
Mrs. Gladys Knight is far more than an extraordinary singer... she is a music interpreter, she tells us stories by singing the songs... Forever she will be the Empress of the Soul...
Gladys - a formidable talent. This performance only goes to reinforce to me why she remains my favorite vocalist of all time. Pitch-perfect, and she just always does it right. So glad for this ...
I have been a fan of Gladys since 1974 when she and the Pips were together. I was such a hopeless romantic back than so young and full of life. My eight track tape player pumping out those beautiful love songs by Gladys was always keeping my foolish heart thinking of my next true love.
As soon as this beautiful lady sings the first note......tingling down my arms...every time. She is a one-off, and we are the lucky people to have the great pleasure of just sitting back and letting her music fill our souls with joy. Thank you Miss Knight....thank you.
My gorgeous Sylvia and I loved listening to this song in our years together, sadly passed 4 years ago, but I have the memories that we idolised whe we played this Gladys Knight performance
Try to think of someone from today that could actually pull this song off? I've heard some people from today trying to sing songs from back in the day. one was trying to do Gladys and another trying to do Etta James. they did pretty good but the difference was that today's folks were struggling to sound like old school and Gladys & Etta were just doing it effortless making those signature sounds come out of their bodies. you no those moans, groans, sighs , that scream in key thing. that just can't be recreated. Guess you can tell I am from the Sixties.
I’ve been a fan of Gladys and old school music my whole life but this is one I’m just finding out about and it’s so beautiful. ♥️💓 and this performance is everything
The version of this song she performed--I believe back in the seventies--was unbelievable. She had on a white dress sitting on a stool. I haven't heard one yet that tops that performance IMHO.
Gladys Knights takes this song to a whole new level. Gladys Knights rendition is the best version, I have heard. I do not want to take away the beautiful original Barbra Streisand rendition from the movie "The Way We Were" with Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford. However Gladys Knights touched a cord with me tonight. I am sure Gladys has touched a cord with many other people who appreciate beautiful music with her incredible rendition of this sad, wonderful and meaningful song. Well done Gladys.
Great version, proving Gladys has as much courage as her never ending soul, as she certainly must have known her epic '74 live version was impossible to match.
Ho avuto il privilegio di vederla a Las Vegas 10 anni fa. Indimenticabile. Ti prende e ti porta nel suo mondo, e lo fa con un’apparente semplicità che è quasi disarmante. Gladys ti amo! Ciao dall’Italia ❤
"Every beat of my heart" I do believe was my first Gladys Knight record. She is, was, and will always be a GREAT singer. She takes you with her in her songs. Love it!!!
@@scottcampbell1377xanadu You were lucky. She had a lot of good songs contrary to some artists. I never got a chance to see her in person but I listen to her often. Not too long ago she was on TV singing at a funeral of another great and she still looks really good. Looks younger than her years.
Beautiful, U are just beautiful Gladys Knight looking like Kelly Rowlands right here!!

Gladys Gladys Gladys.. Go easy on em baby! You know when Gladys puts it on you, she could make a grown man cry and pretend it was his allergies. Leave it to Gladys to breath, "Soul" into this standard tune. Nobody, I mean nobody ends a song off like Gladys.
I'm 25 and in love with so many artists today, but this remains one of my favorite songs of all time and makes me cry as well when it hits right. She enriched our lives even to this day and beyond ❤️
Timeless! Gladys is like a fine wine! A voice and ability to sing a song thats relevant and on point! Love her interpretation of The way we were!! 2020 and beyond!❤🎻🎵🎶🎼🎤🇺🇸
Gladys ... By far THE BEST female singer !!! She is and always be my favorite! Aretha is called the Queen of soul(and she is), but Gladys is the EMPRESS , no doubt about it. Her voice can make even the coldest heart warm and glow again.....
Wonderful gladys thank GOD for wonderful memories yes the way we were yes some are painful but that's life there's bitter and sweet but so much more sweet
Unlike many female singers whose voices changed dramatically over the years...ex Dionne Warwick, Aretha Franklin... Gladys Knight's voice sound pretty much the same as it did 50 years ago...the same soulfully rich voice... she's incredible. She's also one of the best live performers ever.
one of my favourites, so many happy time's , a love that was lost .xxx , and it was all of my fault , lcc if you seeing this i am so sorry , i never stopped loving you , maybe i'll get it right in the next life .xx
Gladys doesn't get the credit she deserve she's incredible songstress she's in a class all by herself love her voice

This woman is pure class.
My sister and I had the distinct pleasure of seeing her in Shreveport, LA just last month. Outstanding show and yes, she is pure class.
I saw her last week in Boston. Her voice hasn’t changed a bit! Very impressive. 👏🏻👏🏻

She poured soul, grit and texture into the song! She made it her own! Beautiful!

Not an easy song to sing. Pure magic.

I was lucky enough too see her perform twice in the past two years. She was absolutely incredible and her voice is as good as ever.

2024 STILL LISTENING TO IT.
A wonderful reminder of how great a singer Gladys was in her prime.
Crazy thing is her vocals are still very similar. She was in here 30s or 40s here.
She s great singer now
Gave Barabra a run for her money for sure. Seriously though, they can't be compared. They each have their own brilliant style and sound.
I've never heard Gladys sound bad. She's truly gifted.

How can any song be difficult to sing for any professional please explain??
