45 years ago when my first love and I had split up...it was this song that kept me together. The difference between going on or simply folding in agony. It was Gladys gentleness that touched me over and over and over. I will never forget those moments or that it was gladys who became my lifeguard...I was a long long way from shore!

Many years ago I saw Gladys Knight (without Pips) live. In a smaller venue so it was a more intimate show. She owned that audience. Connected with everyone as if she were playing only to you. And when she sang this song, oh yes, the tears were falling, everyone's eyes were shining. Even the men. She has that much power and emotion when she sings. Phenomenal entertainer.

Fond memories of listening to this woman while cleaning on Saturday. Mom/Grandma would have her music blasting. We would dance all over the house. Even then, her music was old school but I loved her voice. She's indeed a queen, very classy and still has a beautiful voice.

I was too young back then to have experienced heartache However, when she says, "Farewell my love, goodbye", I'd tear up. Forty-one years later, it still has the same effect. I thank my mother for exposing me to songs like this and music from my Caribbean background.

I am so glad that I lived at a time when there were so many great songs being sung and played on the A.M. radio back then. Back when A.M. radio ruled the airways and songs were sung to touch your heart and reach down and touch your very soul.This is one of those songs.. a beautiful song full of soul that reached down to your soul and either made you cry about a lost love or have a good time dancing a slow dance with that certain special someone....great memories!!

Yes, I remember my first transistor radio, it was a Peerless six transistors radio. I got it somewhere in the early 1960's maybe around 1963 or 1964. I loved it!!! It was a Christmas gift. If it broke, the off, on switch would break. My neighbor would fix it for me for twenty five cents.

This song touches the heart of a broken relationship it makes the couple sorry they broke up, this song was my sister song back in 1973 when she had to break up with her husband then he got his self shot to death that year and she played this song at his funeral and she passed out because deep in her heart she still loved him and that song got to her.
