    I'd say finding out about the comet and how the air benders ended up was when the show truly shifted into a darker story making every episode tense knowing time wasted would leave the fire nation ready for invasion.

    • @chillreview636
      @chillreview636  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      That's definitely a fair take. Seeing Monk Gyatso's corpse with all of those firebender corpses was definitely a dark tone shift. I think Book 2 and Ba Sing Se specifically just seemed to focus more on the darker and more twisted aspects of the story than Book 1 as a whole

    Zuko getting sick from doing a good deed was hilarious but somehow heartbreaking at the same time for me as a kid

    I love how much nuance is introduced in the Ba Sing Se arc. The “right” side is still capable of corruption and evil. And that idea is carried over to book three, in which we learn that the majority of people on the “wrong” side are just innocent civilians trying to get by

    • @chillreview636
      @chillreview636  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yup. It does a great job of exploring moral gray areas. Book 2 is like a slow build with an amazing pay off and season 3 is like a crazy roller coaster ride. Both are great to watch and amazing in their own right

  • @AvrahamDiallo

    I don't think Zuko's arc would have been as good if he decided to join team Avatar the first chance he had. Also, I think as an alternate ending he would have gotten emprisoned by Azula with how everyone on Team Avatar was nerfed that fight lol

    • @chillreview636
      @chillreview636  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      In hindsight with knowing the full scope of the story after book 3, I agree. But watching it for the first time in the moment it was the most frustrating thing I had ever seen lol

    I only watched Avatar like five years ago. I remember it randomly airing at one time when I was a teen and it was Bumi going down a giant slide and I was like I aint watching this its too silly. Years and years later, the internet wouldn't shut up about the lesbians in Korra so I thought man lets see that first show. The show itself is very foggy in my memory by now but Iroh telling Zuko pride is not the opposite of shame it is its source had me sitting down thinking like damn thats deep. So yeah Im here for talking about Avatar but I need to rewatch that stuff.

      Hahaha love how Lesbians in a spin off series got you interested in the show. But yeah, ATLA has aged like a fine wine silliness and seriousness in equal amounts.

    I think the heroes losing here (and again on the day of black sun) is a big part of what makes Avatar so iconic. It makes the final victory seem so impossible that when it finally happens, it's deeply cathartic. Not many shows manage to maintain that feeling of desperation right to the end and I think the only other work of media that manages it as well as Avatar is Lord of the Rings.

      Couldn't agree more. It was one of the few shows from my childhood that reminded me constantly that failure is a possibility.

    Holy shit man, you did it again with another banger. First off, I can’t even begin to express how excited I was to see that you made a video on one of my all-time favorite shows. "Avatar" taught me so many things that I have baked into my character as an adult. The morals that I learned from this show are unmatched.
    Secondly, I loved the perfectly timed meme clips, the background music, and the universal/galactic backdrop that played behind the video. Third, you are one of the smallest TH-camrs that I follow, but easily you are in my top 5 creators that I’ve watched over the 10 years I’ve had my account. I always watch your videos through from start to finish so you get the maximum viewer retention.
    I would love to see more videos on "Avatar," and if I were to recommend another show it would be "Regular Show." "Boondocks," "Avatar," and "Regular Show" are my top 3 favorite animated shows, and I have a significant portion of my personality and morals grounded in the lessons I learned from them. It’s fantastic to see someone like yourself hold shows like these in such high regard and to speak on them with so much compassion and respect.
    Keep doing what you’re doing because I love it.

    Im so glad u feel this way ab book 2 too cuz most people i talk to says book 3 is the best season. While book 3 is def a great season, book 2 just covers so many important aspects of the show that BUILDS up book 3. Book 3 wouldnt be what it is without book 2 and it ending with the heroes losing is literally one of the best things u can do for a story. Overall book 2 just EATS so bad that nothing is holding a candle to it. (Also azula carried the show)

    Have you ever seen, in a serie or movie, where a good person does something bad for the first time? Once broken out of balance the mind body and soul can be heavily disturbed (by itself).
    It still sounds funny, even when going 180 on the subject. But whatch Karen Page, from daredevil, make her first kill, that aint gonna make you smile i promise!!! 😂

    Ah yes ba sing se tbe police state that keeps the people ignorant on outside issues.
    Though that's the question as they literally let in war refugees all the time so people should know that an active war is happening. I mean we even know some groups that never appear again are there plus jet and co who are child soldiers.
    Guess the dai lee worked overtime. But i did love the palace invasion part. That was so high action.

      @@chillreview636 Moments, sure. Regarding characters, I don’t see anyone even remotely close to any of the main characters of ATLA
      It also doesn’t help that I strongly dislike Korra. She seems entirely incompetent, annoying, and basically just stumbles upon solutions instead of actually doing anything
      For example, she just happens to decide to be a creep and listen in on that one factory owner’s conversation and just so happens to accidentally discover some secret plot. I literally can’t even describe that in more detail, it wasn’t interesting enough to stick
