Tommy, If you are trying to #shame Toyota into bringing a cheap, genuine 4X4 to our market by doing videos like this then you are doing an excellent job. May I suggest something priced like a FJ but with a design budget including larger windows. If a new model is too much fuss for TMC then the 2 door Prado will do quite nicely.

2-wheel drive = 1 wheel drive. AWD without lockers = 1 wheel drive with a small bonus. permanent AWD with center diff-lock or 4wd = 2 wheel drive. Same with rear lockers = 3 wheel drive. 4wd with all center, rear and front lockers = 4WD.

A Peugeot 2008 or 3008 with grip control can make it further. They're front wheel drive and Peugeot's grip control is quite amazing actually. It uses the 2 front wheels to the max and has sand and rocks and snow mode. It actually performs really well. So actually you maybe don't need awd but no one else does grip control other than Peugeot and Citroen for you to test a terrain control front wheel drive car in the US.

Hyundai Venue would be interesting in same situation since it can be had with a manual transmission and 8' ground clearance (less chance of bottoming-out with momentum). Also Lexus 250H would return surprising results....if I was Lexus, I"d jump on this one, since it'll be a great way to demonstrate ability of rear hybrid drive.

Omg I just dealt with this. However it was a really steep hill loose soil. My suv is fwd. we just packed up from camping. I told the wife this will be the difficult hill. Problem was I lost track of when the hill was coming up. Sue to lots of hills. So I was too close to another vehicle that slowed down in the hill. If I was able to use my momentum, I would not have been stuck. One of my pals gave me a slight push with his hands and we were free. I’m sure I could have turn off traction control. Or have the whole line of us back up and allow me room to get back up to speed. But from a dead stop it’s a pain. Fed is capable but not always. Tread of tire helps too.

I thought the same thing, but at least with road cars, they are fine. I've driven their latest CVTs and unless someone told you, you would have no idea. Modern CVTs are in all cars in this price point/segment, even experienced drivers can't tell they are CVTs anymore with the shift programming they have. I doubt all of them would use them if they are all destined to suck, especially companies like Honda, Toyota, Hyundai/KIA.

@@KB-bh9hp i will admit, before the slight facelift of the 2020 models the chr looked kinda like a big bug lol. But they do look pretty neat inside and out, they just dont feel as good as they look when you go to touch all of the interior and exterior parts. They feel cheap and weak. I think most modern toyotas look really good, but every design is subject to the opinion of whoever may see it.

@@RexenPrime Imo, Mazda and Ford make the best looking mainstream cars currently, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. I like the character line this has on the side where it swoops up as it nears the bodysides, looks good, I don't hate it, it's unique. But unique design on its own doesn't make it automatically good design.

The tyres profile are stiff otherwise she's got enough toque she just need to get some psi off the tyres and some rugged handling, she can go wild👍🤷

Crossover isn't about off-roading, it's about ride height and easy of entry and exit. They are simply tall wagons.

AWD CH-R has the 1.2l engine though, I don't think many people would buy that in the US.

Wish it came is AWD. As it is it's basically just a slightly taller Corolla Hatchback with older tech and a worse engine. Unless you want a leather interior there is no reason to buy the C-HR over the Corolla Hatchback.

If it was a hybrid would have had made it. Hybrids has a plenty of torque from 0 rpm and the eCVT is way better with better tc set up. Driving axles not so important. Uphill obviously rwd or awd are way better.

You don’t need 4 or awd to go on a trail. I live in va and there are plenty of country boys who take old ass 2wd duel tank fords out in the trail and do fine. The driver just sucks in all these videos. No understanding on how to drive.
