So to answer your question pink diamond flipped her gemstone to face the front and formed the rebellion as her alter ego rose quartz and when it got to the point where the double life she lives as rose/pink diamond got too hard to keep up the lie she concocted this idea to fake her true identity pink diamonds death and for pearl to shapeshift into rose to make it look like she was killed but in reality she was poofed and she going forward lived her life as rose quartz and the events that followed suit will be addressed in the show
