fixing my tractor

  • My Yanmar SA424 suddenly lost power while I was working.
    Would die as soon as I tried to do anything.
    Turned out to be fuel starvation - clog in the tank. Not Yanmar's fault; it was my fault.
    This is how I fixed it.

    Daniel, you are like a "one man pit crew". No sense in waiting for a warranty claim when you got the "wrenches & technology ". The "old rot-gut" fuel will get ya every time.Thanks for the great Video Sir and happy safe tractoring.

    i would of used a vaccum to get all the stuff out after you drained it. filler cap looks big enough to shove a shop vac hose in there if you have one. great video editing daniel

    Wowser, glad it was easy to fix. Maybe they need to make the tanks with a larger outlet so that crud hits the filter instead of blocking fuel flow. Tanks a lot😆

    Must be the fuel, have never used an additive in 10 plus years in my 1026R...I do burn through fuel pretty fast tho as it is used everyday, including mowing. The closest Yanmar dealer is 27 miles away...but its a 45 minute drive....Went with JD as it is a mile away.

    Great video 👍 I have the exact same model, about a year old. Having exact same problem - engine starts to weaken after it runs a bit, especially when I try to run my belly mower. Is your tractor still running fine? What do you use to treat your fuel? Thank you!

    • @danielames7611
      @danielames7611  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks. Tractor still runs great. I haven't treated it yet. I've been going through a lot of fuel lately building a driveway. I bought some of this (www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/royal-purple-max-tane-fuel-treatment-diesel-additive?cm_vc=-10011) for it. Will put it in after I'm done using the tractor every day. I don't know if it's the best choice. Will see.

    I'm getting an offer on a new 424 today. Either buying that or Kioti or maaaybe a Kubota but they seem overpriced. I'm really tempted by the 424's specs, but can it really frontlift 1200lb? Impressive video, subbed.

    • @danielames7611
      @danielames7611  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I have not personally measured if it can lift that much or not, but specs are specs. I chose yanmar because I just wanted a "cheap tractor", but after using it and being surprised at how capable and nice it was, I started doing tons of research on what this "cheap tractor" I just bought can actually do.. I was fully expecting to find how it can't do A or B like a Kubota or Deer. I quickly learned that I was completely wrong. The only thing cheap about this tractor is the price tag. They may have cut costs in places that don't matter much. For example the guage cluster isn't as hi tech looking as a Kubota, but who cares about that? I don't. I don't wanna pay for fluff or paint color. I just want a work horse, and the 424 is definitely that. I recommend you check out some yanmar vs Kubota vids. Yanmar beats Kubota (and others) where it matters, IMO. Just about any Kubota or Deer you get will have at least a yanmar engine in it anyway. And the 10 year power train is tough to beat, man. As for the kioti, I'm afraid I don't know much about them. I'd rely on specs to guide you. The yanmar engine is in most Kubotas and Deers, so it's a tried and true platform. I don't know what's in Kiotis. Whatever you decide to buy, congratulations in advance on your new tractor!

      @@danielames7611 Thanks! I haven't found too many K vs Y videos yet. I do know JD and a lot of other companies use Yanmar engines, but I do believe Kubota makes their own. Both are old Japanese machine companies from Osaka; they would probably lose face or something if they got the engines from their biggest rival. I have a Kubota mini-digger that is old and wonky but really reliable. Anyway, it seems clear that the 424 engine punches above its weight, so unless that Kioti dealer comes back with a really convincing price, I'll go with Yanmar. The sales rep. did not want to budge from the standard rebate, and I am not going to buy really expensive accessories and extras even if they are sold at a rebate. 3-way tipping trailer for 6k USD, etc. I only need 1-way. So that was a bit of a disappointment. Luckily there are shops around that can get me a bigger one for less than 3k. Exciting times!

      @@danielames7611 That is interesting, I thought Kubota used their own engines....🤔

    • @Noah_E
      @Noah_E ปีที่แล้ว

      The 1,199 pounds of lift capacity Yanmar advertises is at the pivot pin. What matters is the lift capacity 500mm (20 inches) out because it better reflects actual use in the field. It's 70-75% of the pivot pin rating. So 840-900 lbs, which is in line with other subcompact tractors. Kubota and others give both ratings. Kioti, Mahindra, Yanmar typically only post pivot pin ratings. While not dishonest, it is misleading because it gives a false sense of what they can actually lift. Also, Kubota uses their own engines and Massey use Iseki. Mitsubishi, Daedong, and a half dozen others make engines for other tractor brands.

    • @tzenophile
      @tzenophile ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Noah_E It still seems to be >200 pounds more than a similar Kubota B. This machine is perfect for the landscaping that I do; I have 80 hours on mine now, and couldn't be happier. The only annoying thing is that the ROPS is too tall for my tractor garage; first time I tried to get in there, I did a Clarkson ...

    What if front loader doesnt want to work?

    • @danielames7611
      @danielames7611  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well I'm no expert by any means, but if the front loader doesn't work, but you can still drive it around, I would suspect the joystick mechanism. If it won't drive either, you either have hydraulic leak, or your pump is dead. If you can get it to a real expert, I recommend that above my advice.

      @@asian_makanic1805 should work as long as it's a cat 1 hitch. I selected a 4 foot because my ground has LOTS of roots from trees and cleared brush; so lots of resistance against my pulling. Lots of things to snag on. Smaller blade is easier to pull. I still snag on things though. But 99% of its purpose is just to have some counter weight in the back. :)
