I was unable lose any weight in my 40s and most of my 50s despite a severely calorie-restricted diet (800/day). I tried many commercial diets, including the ones that deliver the food, but on each one, I gained an incredible 2 lbs. per week! My doctor told me my blood sugar was high, so first I gave up all sugar. Then, all simple carbohydrates like grains, potatoes, etc. But what finally took off 45 lbs. was a simple daily walk, 60 minutes and straight up steep hills. I began walking to clear a stubborn chest infection, then noticed that the excess weight was just coming off naturally. I do eat fresh fruit, which has simple sugars, but the benefits (fiber, vitamins and minerals, anti-oxidants, water content) of it outweigh this drawback. I eat mostly berries, which are relatively low in sugar compared to other fruits. Berries, like all the other foods I love, nuts, pre-washed salad greens, fresh fish, etc., are expensive, but we only get one body, we have to take care of it!

Gluten is not sugar! It is actually a protein. It does have inflammatory properties but only if you are intolerant. It is assiciated with carbs because it is a part of grains however it is not a carb or a sugar at all. Dietitian here 🤗

Gluten has high glucide level. It has inflammatory property EVEN you are NOT intolerant because it does spike your blood sugar level. Carbs are sugar for me most part because of the level of glucide.

Why do you never accept criticism or admit that you're wrong? It seems to me that you want to hang up this fantasy image of a Parisian, which is based on all the myths Americans have made from it through the years.... It's too obvious that you are playing dress up, to be something you're not. Be yourself. I'm letting this channel go as it's more of a mockery than an actual life of a real Parisian.

I'm French and I don't know anyone who does intermittent fasting or drinks detox juices... I mean no offense, but it seems like a "privileged trendy Parisian" thing (saying this as a Parisian myself - albeit an atypical one). IMO what most people - not just women - practice is eating a very varied diet, a little of everything in moderation.

Years ago when I first started visiting Paris, one of the things I noticed while walking the streets all day was… almost no overweight people. Literally… I started searching for them to prove myself wrong. Another thing I noticed was how difficult it was to find plus size or big/tall clothing. It was eye opening. I realized that your lifestyles directly lend itself to your body types… walks to buy fresh groceries a few times a week, loads of time outside, meals heavy on the veggies and desserts heavy on the fruits. Plus I believe the quality of food here in the US is different. If I eat here the way I eat in Paris, I get a lot digestive issues.

This is so short sighted… I’m French, I’m overweight and I don’t like junk food and hate greasy food… Being overweight is not only about eating rubbish… Too many shortcuts in your video. France hates big people… More than 30% French people are obese and it’s very difficult for us to find clothes in shops here… A lot of discriminating comments everywhere… A lot of misunderstanding and biased ideas… Maybe the same video with less stereotypes would be better…

I also walk around 20 to 30 km/week and go and see a fitness coach every Friday. As stated, not all « BIG » people are eating rubbish junk food and it’s not always about not exercising or eating the wrong type of foods. People in France think that it is just a matter of will and if we’re fat it’s because we eat like pigs. Not always that simple!!! But it lets them believe that they can insult us regardless as it’s « our » fault… Not great! I loved your video on what not to wear in Paris. Very true… But this one was a little too blindsided on the idea that if you are big it’s because you eat junk food and drink soda… A disclaimer would have been nice… 😉

C'mon Alice, Parisian women don't eat carbs, butter, and sugar🤭?!!!! I think the real reason is the portions are small in France, and people walk, walk, and walk some more everywhere. Also, the French savor food and enjoy eating, where as America has a love/hate relationship w/ food, and most of us are neurotic emotional eaters! Also, without a doubt the French eat more fresh and quality foods than we do!

Gluten is not sugar it's a protein. just a simple search can tell you that. also it's is found in some whole grains. When you go to a Non-gluten bakery they will use more sugar than your average baked goods. since they are not using gluten, which is a binder, they add more sugar so it becomes the binder. you will gain more weight eating gluten free pastries than the ones with gluten because of all the added sugar. People who are actually allergic to gluten can have sugar because it's easy for them to digest and its gluten free. Gluten is also in medicine, lipsticks, vitamins and the list goes on and on.

I love this video! My mom grew up in France (I grew up in the US but live in Europe now), so everything you say matches the way I eat (but without any juice cleanses). One diet secret I have is that the only sweets I ever eat are those that I make myself, using coconut sugar and other non-inflammatory sugars instead of regular cane sugar, and without any cow dairy. Avoiding cane sugar and cow dairy simply ensures that my skin doesn't break out (it doesn't do anything for weight loss). Otherwise, the time and effort that I have to put in to make the sweets are a good deterrent from eating them every day or eating too much at one time. Besides, homemade results tend to be better than store-bought, and when foods are more satisfying, people tend not to overeat as much.

This was very intriguing and useful, Alice. I like the kinds of foods you listed, largely because I have been a vegetarian/vegan almost my entire adult life now, and have never gone back to eating animals ever. I do a lot of these things. We have fresh green juices every day. I have fresh fruit juice in the morning. I do like cheese, but just white cheeses. We eat mostly legumes and vegetables, pulses, etc. but I do slip in some dairy like sour cream. We never eat bread any more, even though I love it. I adore dark, whole grain pumpernickel bread for example but try not to eat it. I love dark, dark chocolate and that is my one sugar indulgence -- I try to get the best. I love coffee, and espresso that we make at home. Every once in awhile we will have a little gourmet ice cream, locally made. One thing I loved about Europe -- especially France -- were all the little fresh produce markets like the one you describe and show. We have those only in NYC (where I am from) for the most part. I am 48 kg and 5' 6" so I have maintained my slimness for my entire life, only a few kilos more than I was in secondary school and actually lighter than I was at university. We have our own elliptical and rowing machines for extra exercise. You, of course, looking amazing so you are a great advertisement for your philosophy! 😍

"Parisian women don't eat meat, eggs, dairy, cheese" and eat fruit, veggies, grains, legumes and nuts, this is an excellent diet but I would also recommend staying away from fish, which is polluted and not needed to get omega 3s. This way of eating would resemble a whole food plant (vegan) diet and is extremely healthy and conducive to weight loss without suffering, as you can eat big portions BUT stay away from all oils, including olive oils, they're a processed food and the most fattening on the planet. You can cook, sautee, etc. without oil, just use water or broth. Losing weight is not rocket science by the way. All you need to do is burn more calories than you eat. It really does not matter where these calories come from (fat, carbs, protein). Usually your body will burn more calories when digesting proteins. Your brain is made of fat and your muscles need carbs to work and are made of protein. A low carb diet will make you feel tired after a few days. And it doesn't make sense to diet and only eat 1000 calories a day. You have to change your eating habits permanently and be able to eat without restricting yourself to be physically and mentally healthy.

Hmmm French yes but not a Parisian thing. Again there is a difference between a French living outside of Paris and a Parisian. I have friends who live outside in the countryside they eat so much cheese all the time. Cheese give me a lot of break out and poor digestion. I only eat goat cheese and small portion. If I want real cheese -and it's a dessert- I go to the best in Paris called Aleosse. Their truffle cheese are wonderful. But again not on everyday basis

Sounds to me like diet culture in a different culture, and projecting your own (again, very diet culture coded misinformed) food choices on your whole nation. Ugh.
