- I was invited to a preview session to play Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. I played for 80 minutes - from the cells of Hyrule Castle to the game's first dungeon, Suthorn Ruins. Let's talk about it!
A huge thank you to Nintendo UK for inviting me to this event!

Thanks for watching, and a huge thank you to Nintendo UK for the opportunity! As I said at the start of the video - this demo was the start of Echoes of Wisdom, from the Hyrule Castle cellar to the end of the first dungeon. This video doesn't show much that hasn't already been revealed in trailers, but if you'd rather go into Echoes of Wisdom completely blind, then I'd advise skipping this one!
Can we please get a first time playing playthrough of this game when it releases !!
hiii
First
I'm cursed with very bad memory. I can watch and still go in knowing nothing. 😂
@Zeltik I'm OK with seeing someone else play the intro because I know I'll be experimenting in my own ways once the game is in my hands.
The "get revenge for every hyrule citizen in history by breaking link's pots" any% speedrun
Revenge%
The idea Link would have unbroken pots in/near his house at all is surprising >.>
@@OurHeroXero Would've been hilarious if they was already broken.
@@BinknotLink i was about to say that lol
He wasn't turned evil, he just heard his pots smashing, and knows pot smashers go to dungeons 😂
Zelda needing a sword meter instead of a magic meter makes so much sense
I never thought of it that way.
Oh my god, I just realized that
That's amazing haha I hadn't thought of that!
Yeah true, it is neat, but technically it is still a magic meter isn't it. She picks up energy to refill it, and she's transforming through magic into a different form.
Might be cool to have link he unlockable at the end of the game as an alternate character.
Not sure how youd make the echos work off a magic meter (since it already has a shard cost). But it'd be interesting
Defeating link with a pot to the head is hilarious
Karmic Justice for every citizen of Hyrule who had their pots shattered by Link
omg, everyone definitely gonna start bully link with pots now
I know right?
@@connormclernon26 lol, I was about to say that
@@shaunlim6670 rightfully so
Zelda breaking Link’s pots is surely the most celebrated and appropriate act of vandalism in all of Hyrule’s history.
He's not even the same Link 😢
@@michaeltovah4So severe and outrageous were the senseless acts of vandalism, that Link has an inherited debt and blame that has accumulated and spanned generation! Lifetimes!
And finally, Hyrulian homeowners can share in such sweet catharsis.
@@arc7375 we don't even know if he's related, this might just be a completely unrelated courageous dude who likes green and swordfighting and helping people. 😭
@@michaeltovah4 When he shouldered the legacy, he also shouldered the sins.
@@elias.t I don't think he even knows of any legacy, he just seems to be a good kid from Suthorn Village
Can't wait until Zeltik does a detailed analysis of this video.
Dude, I snorted at that.
for something like 80 minutes of game play, one would expect at least 240 minutes of in-depth analysis, especially if it is about zelda!
@@newerstillimproved Give him 12 hours.
I agree. 👍
me dream touch more, intro well seriously flow the zelda game. like a kind of youngness! komment overgone inside head broder's talk?
"You don't have to use Swordfighter form alone, that's famously dangerous"
That got me 😂
13:30 Succumbs with a pot to the head. If that's not karma, then I don't know what is.
I feel like Zelda breaking pots is not her avenging the citizens of Hyrule, but rather Hyrule being "under new management"
I never thought anyone would ever compare Link and Megamind…
Heh heh, when I saw Zelda ask who Link was, I pictured her sweatily looking side to side like, “Link? Who’s Link? Hardly know the guy! This isn’t his cloak! Ha ha ha ha…”
😂😂😂
Right? I figured it was a "Playing Dumb"-type option. Though in other games many conversations have such "Who/What are you talking about?"-type/reminder options even if you've asked them before.
I have a theory maybe this might be the first link and Zelda of the new timeline the one that formed so far into the future that the old legend is forgotten
@@Juan_bloomsthe timeline was fun thing they did one time. None of the games are made with the timeline in mind. The game developers have stated they regret making it, since they didn’t expect fans to take it so seriously. However, for fun you can still create one according to whatever you feel is right.
@@kaitourobin840 I would like to still imagine if they were still being consistent with the timeline. I know they probably just updated it recently, but I would still like to imagine what it would look like if the original timeline was just forgotten because of these games being so far into the future to wear, it’s a completely new legend altogether
I hope Phantom Link becomes a reoccurring boss. Each time he gets more aggressive, he uses more of his iconic weapons against you and becomes more durable.
Exactly. I hope he becomes a reocurring boss, because it would be kinda dissapointing if that 1st fight was the only one in the game. He also gives me SA-X from Metroid Fusion vibes, so thats cool.
I call him Fink (Fake Link)
And each time you need one more pot to the head to stop him...
This might actually be the case I don’t see why Nintendo winning do this
My guess is that at some point, you'll get the bow which will work similarly to the swordplay mechanic.
Echoes is such a clever concept since it merges the idea of item progression with one versitile ability that the game is centred around. You constantly find new items and creatures to copy in order to advance through the game. It's like in Mario Odyssey where all the captures essentially act in place of the power-ups.
Or like Megaman!
You actually don't need to acquire new items in each dungeon. You just acquire the features and skills of the mini bosses.
Yes!! I think I’m gonna get this for my sister for Christmas because she’s very familiar with Mario Odyssey and it could be a great gateway into Zelda for her. She got kind of overwhelmed by BOTW, since there are a lot of new things that can be complicated for some kids to learn and figure out how to do
@@hannaha1474👏🏻
I'm predicting 90% of puzzles can be solved by stacking beds.
Since Nintendo controls WHERE enemies and objects appear, they definitely can function like items. I think there will be a fair bit of items you can ONLY acquire from each dungeon, making the reward for visiting them feel better than what we had in BotW and TotK. The lack of really good feeling upgrades in those games made me sad.
I will be back to watch after i play. This will be my daughters first Zelda game (she only dabbled in totk) and her and i are going to work on it together, no spoilers.
Hope you and your daughter have a great time playing this
@OVO_kanyegang mom and I played, she taught me how to explore, on the original in the eighties. Now I have taught my 12 year old son and watched him beat totk and botw. Daughter is now 8 and it is her turn to beat one on her own. And as zelda! That's pretty cool, man.
@@Matthew10950 omg this story is actually gonna make me cry lmao, thats painfully cute xD
Pls give updates on her playthrough! I cannot wait to play this game afldsjdfkdls
Despite how different it is, it seems like the most traditional zelda game in a while! Especially when it comes to dungeons
Yeah, only took 11 years (Links awakening was a remake).
Wait I love the fairy bottle mechanic so much. I’m assuming if all of your bottles are full *then* touching the fairy just refills your health. That then removes the needlessly stressful “oh shoot I gotta get my net/bottle out to catch this fairy before I touch it and refill my health” moment that always happens in the other games.
Its great.... but I miss the bug catching net!
It did teach stealth/ inventory management though
@@janelle4455 Good point.
This game's design is so pretty! I can appreciate game designs like this that are bright and cheerful.
Yeah, such a bright and cheerful game!
*Sees corpse floating around in the dark world
Great to see boss keys seem to be found in every dungeon! People freaked out due to what seemed to be terminals in the Zora dungeon, but those same people ignored the obvious boss key chest found in the same trailer. lol
The boss key argument from people is a silly one. There's plenty of Zelda dungeons across the series that didn't have a boss key. There's some guy on gamefaqs forums claiming thats one of many elements that are absolutely needed to make a dungeon traditional and they've been ripped into by people showing that there is really no such thing as a single list of requirements that make a dungeon traditional
Some assume that "open world in 2d" and "botw 2d" are one in the same when that couldn't be further from the truth.
I agree I am happy that we are getting one of your dungeons but also I wouldn’t mind if one or two of the dungeons are open
@@neonswiftthey’re better with keys and boss keys tho
@@dpackerman4203Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, I prefer classic dungeons to the ones in BotW/TotK (though I did like the BotW machine aspect of them but that'd be better as one dungeon instead of all). I just don't think "traditional dungeon" really means as much as people think it does. Especially not if you've played the series from Day 1.
Imminent "Can you beat Echoes of Wisdom by only throwing pots" challenge videos incoming..
"I was able to play for 80 minutes, up until the end of the first dungeon"
I am picturing 2 guys in black shades and wearing Mario caps yanking a black hood over your head at the conclusion of your play time. Just feels very Nintendo to me, lol.
the way the recorded gameplay ends feels like it too, just fading to black like that
its hard to believe that this game comes out only in 2 more weeks. I'm very exited for this game to come out.
I'm so happy that I read in the comments that the demo was 80 minutes long. Because I understood "18" when watching the video and was very worried that the game would be extremely short if that's already enough to explore all these areas.
y’know at first i thought echoes is just a smaller game smth for the zelda fans to get by, but im really surprised with the depths it seems like progression is gonna be really satisfying
I mean, it's still definitely going to be way smaller than the former two games.
But I'm totally fine with that actually. I'd like a smaller game I can actually complete.
This looks brilliant. Seems like the synthesis between BotW and classic Zelda I was really hoping TotK would be like. Can’t wait to give it a play later this month!
Let's go!! This is hype!
Everything I've seen about this game has made me want to play it, I can't wait to get my hands on it
An iconic Zelda opening section is something I can replay all on its own. Even Wind Waker's stressful stealth section felt worth it yesterday, once I got to Windfall and rested.
A pot to the head - Link's real weakness. Karma. 😂
The impression I get is that this isn't just 2D Zelda's Breath of the Wild, but an attempt at further refining the formula to better integrate the qualities of both open and linear style Zelda design. At least that's what I hope.
I love that her play style isn't of a knight but a summoner instead.
This game is sounding better and better.
Looks like Nintendo really appreciate your work (Y)
Probably because he de-escalates silly "new timeline" stories. I've been a big Zelda fan and frequented Zelda game and theory forums for 30 years but Zeltik came onto the scene as the new guy and nailed it.
@@neonswift He played the game before the timeline "drama"
@@Terranigma23 Yeah true, but I just meant in general he is very good at highlight Zelda lore compared to most.
Hands on is exactly where I have to go hands off and avoid as much content so I can stay spoiler free. I already feel like the trailers showed me more than I wanted to see. Love your content tho.
Zeltik i just wanna say you are literally the best Legend of Zelda youtuber off all time. I always thought i knew everything about zelda(game) since ive been playing and collecting merch games etc since 1990 and every time i watch your videos im always amazed at the level of your knowledge and research that you put into this series. Do you have any merch so i can add to my collection it would be my honor. Thank you for your hard work !
I was on the fence on this game. I want to play as Zelda, but without traditional combat I wasnt 100% on it. This video has convinced me I will most likely purchase and play this game on release.
Oh no, rifts! Terror! Calamity! Horror!
Screw that, I'm gonna break some pots!
😂 TotK Link. I got to save the world but first I have to pick like 100 apples and send some Koroks to space.
Set gold rupee as echo
Profit
omg it's CZ out in the wild!
I like the way you think haha
It’s wild it’s using TotK map and options / interface screen style alongside these graphics
Makes sense. This really feels like a "2D" take on TotK, although how open world this will be doesn't seem to be fully known yet. (Presumably it's not quite as open ended since you are railroaded into a specific first dungeon). I think this has the potential to be a great entry, since it might bring the more traditional gameplay with more open world exploration. Like a heavily modernized take on the first game.
So presumably every monster, including powerful ones like lynels, will be usable as echoes. This almost adds sort of a monster collecting aspect to the game. Especially since it's probably safe to assume each monster will have different strengths and weaknesses.
so excited for this, especially how it really hones in on puzzle solving
I can't wait! This looks amazing!
i am so excited for this to become my newest hyperfixation
my instincts tell me - and i'm very much hoping - that this is a soft launch of a playable zelda in a 3d game. summoner zelda with real-time fighting?? whatever the next big 3d game will be, it will be wild
would doubt that. Link is the star of the series.
@@Dd-fb2tj i wonder how many hours of debate in lore/theory videos have been devoted to whether Link or Zelda are the star of the series 😂
@@Zelda_Thorn not many I would think. Link's the main protagonist so....apart from this game obvs
@@Dd-fb2tj eh I think people have been yearning for a playable Zelda for a while
@@Zelda_Thorn Some yes. Doesn't change that Link is the star of the series however.
This video actually helped me to want to play this. I didn’t have a desire originally, but after seeing more of it, it actually looks pretty decent. 😊
7:15 Finally justice against Link's tyranny
I'm so hyped, thanks for showing us some awesome early gameplay, can't wait to try out all of the new abilities and echoes!
Genuinely so excited, this feels like a step in the right direction. The more time passes, the more I've worried about the future of Zelda games and if we'd ever get something similar to pre-botw Zelda. This seems like it could be a happy medium between the freedom of botw and the tighter design of older games, and I couldnt be happier
I'm hoping the same and I'm so glad Heart Pieces are back! Let's hope they are here to stay!
I'm so happy we have a companion again. Tri is so cute and I love the noises she makes.
I'm so excited! It looks sooooo good
Every time I think that the team behind the Zelda series will run out of ideas, they surprise me with new abilities and ways to approach gameplay that absolutely blows my mind. I am so excited for this game, it looks awesome!
This certainly made me more excited for the game than anything else knowing that it has actual dungeons now
I really hope this will be the way forward for the 3D Zelda's aswell! Make it open world, but with a straight forward story by locking each next area behind certain story points. This way we get the best of both old and new zelda in one and I am SO excited to play this new game!
I feel like this might work similar to Pokemon Legends Arceus. In that game, you had a linear progression to each new area, but you could free roam within the areas. So it was kind of like "open region" but not fully open world. I guess we'll see in a couple weeks.
Zelda keeping Links hood in her pocket is adorable lol
I pre-ordered this game for my sons, who are LOZ fans. They are going to love it! Thanks for posting this short demo and I may end up playing this myself 😁
So cool that you got the opportunity to play the game early and report on it. You've put out such thorough and excellent content for years now and you certainly deserved this exclusive first-look experience.
I’m getting more excited about this game with more information coming out. This is going to be so much fun and I really like how creative we’ll get to be.
This is going to be a great game once it comes out in full. Can't wait!
Real dungeons are back? I'm now excited
If you have the ability to turn into Link, I would have rather played as Link with the staff as an useable item. I do appreciate that it's going back to true Zelda game play. I was truly missing it during the Breath/Tears games. Thank you so much Zeltik for sharing this.
Can't wait for the Zelda & Tri Amiibo to be announced. Also I REALLY want a Beast Ganon Amiibo. Nintendo please🤞
The amount I want to watch this video before the game’s release is insurmountable but I must go spoiler free. Saving the vid to watch later though!!
7:10 this made me laugh so much 🤣
I love the fact you can move in all directions and lock onto targets, that's a serious improvement upon earlier top down titles. I wish we'd gotten a dodge as well
My theory is that link will be a miniboss in each dungeon and that each time you unlock a different part of links arsenal like the bow for example
You are one of the best Zeltik. Thank you for all the hard work you do.
Also I can’t wait to see your theories on this games timeline placement! So since Zelda doesn’t know Link, if we’re assuming this takes place in the Downfall timeline, this means it takes place either before ALttP, after ALBW & TFH, or after Zelda 2!
Thanks for this, I haven't been keeping up with trailers cuz I'm more interested in gameplay, this has sufficiently gotten me hyped
What a wonderful review! Thank you so much!
There seems to be a pretty big map, can't wait!
I don’t know if anyone has talked about it, but the king not acting like himself makes me think of the plotline of the Minish Cap, and Vaati posing as the king for most of the story and while the real king is locked up. It would be great to see him back as a villain, and something about the purplish black dark world areas reminds me of him as well
I think it's that evil shadow Link doing it. He looks just like the monsters in the Still dimension.
Thank you for the video! It was nice to get to see some game play, and also see you not be afraid to be at least maybe a bit dismissive. I'm still very excited about this game, but I had had a couple of concerns, and I'm glad they were addressed. It will be a lot of fun to be able to play this, once it comes out!
I wonder if the TVA will pop up with all the pruned areas of the map being in the void, I’m sorry, Stillworld lol
I was concerned what this game was gonna be like, but seeing and hearing you talk about the dungeons gives me relief.
-segmented rooms with keys (or at least for a boss, but I imagine throughout)
-multiple floors
-no terminals
-(potentially) not game-breaking abilities, so puzzles are probably well-crafted
I hoped that if 3D Zelda is gonna change a lot, then hopefully 2D can stay traditional, and so far it seems like that is the case. Assuming the case, my only gripes would be reusing the visuals. Reusing the LA remake art style, and not having its own distinct universe (the general world/layout of LttP and seemingly no or few new enemies).
This game is already so charming! And Zelda becoming the new pot-breaking hero of Hyrule upon taking Link's mantle seems very fitting ❤
“Real dungeons”
Literally pogging rn
WHAT YES LET’S GOOOO! THIS GAME IS GOLDEN YEAH!
2:11 looks like botw and totk
I see what you mean but I think this game is going to be a hybrid Zelda game attracting new and old players!! I’m super excited! Hopefully the story is better then Totk and BOTW
Finally!!! The video i was waiting for !!! Clicked as soon as i got the notification!! And ur video demo looks the largest i have seen available.
7:09 In Minish Cap, Link to the Past, and Link Between Worlds, Link often breaks his own pots. I don't think Zeltik's idea of "revenge" would bother Link all that much.
I was wondering how you weren't covering Swordfighter Mode and then you come back with all this! Congrats, Zelda man!
Btw The lonely Four Swords Adventures and Triforce Heroes fan in me is SCREAMING for the next console to kick off with multiplayer online Zelda.
YYYYYAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY THANK YOU FOR THIS EXTENDED LOOK I AM SO EXCITED TO PLAY THIS MORE THAN EVER!!!
15:02 "That's famously dangerous." I see what you did there 😆
DARN IT I THOUGHT IT WAS THE LINK FROM LA - now I gotta fix my brain more *explodes*
You got to love that smooth voice when Zeltik breakdown a video.😏
Damn your video made me want to play the game even more than I already wanted
Can't wait for the game to release, I know it's bad to pre-order but for this one, I couldn't help myself ^^
I knew it! Glad you got try it out early, looks like it’ll be a lot of fun!
It's so great and fun concept to see how shadow Link shreds through enemy mobs, that you are now summoning. I am genuinely so excited, wanted to play as Zelda since forever and I hope so much the game will be great so Nintendo won't shut doors behind playable Zelda.
when i saw this video i was like “WHAT!”
Congrats on getting invited Zeltik❤
I love everything about what this game has on display so far, and it's shaping up to be the best, most unique 2D Zelda yet. You can definitely see the BotW and TotK DNA present in this sandbox system, and the puzzles look absolutely brilliant, full of creativity! Definitely looking forward to this one.
I was hesitant to watch because I was worried I would spoil something, but I'm so glad I did. I am so excited for this game!
Can't wait for Zelda Creative mode to release really excited for it
Bravo to Nintendo for having the guts to make a Zelda-centric game and still maintaining the elements that make up a "true" Zelda game. This way people can't complain much about not having Link as the protagonist since the game still ticks the boxes for exploration, difficulty and innovation. That's a hard thing to do and seems Nintendo nailed it.
I'm really looking forward to the game and hope that it will be delivered on time for the launch 🙏
'Peahat in my pocket'. Say that 10 times fast 😁
It's so cool that you were able to do a preview session, I can't wait for this game to come out!
I love that Zelda is literally channeling Link in his absence. I wanted the sword to pick Zelda ever since she heard its voice in BotW, but it makes so much sense that the swordsmanship is an echo of Link, and she is able to manifest it through the sword. that being said, I wonder now if there are going to be other transformation items... I mean, we start with a Deku spin, then we get the Link form back...
Link's bow had a similar design to the sword. Maybe it will do something similar to the sword as well
This is one of my most anticipated games in a long time. A modern day "sequel" to links awakening? Sold
That is some world-building already be the opening of the game. This version of Zelda is apparently considered powerful enough to cause giant rifts in space that keep expanding to as large as being able to swallow Hyrule Castle.
Edit: More world-building- These are a new Zelda and Link, who look strangely like the Hero and Princess of Legend, like back in A Link to the Past.
I really hope I can go back to her Princess look, since OoT Zelda is my favorite look and this Zelda’s normal Princess look resembles that.
Oh wow!!! I really loved playing the intro to Link to the Past like it's a Metal Gear Solid game and if you can throw objects to distract the guards, that is just another expansion of that gameplay!!!!
10/10 being able to break Link's pots is the best spoiler of the entire game and is the highlight :D
I truly can't wait for this game. This demo definitely got me even more hyped
“That’s famously dangerous”
Nice
I like how those Still World orbs that spilt into moblins and zols are probably a reference to Zelda 2 overworld enemies
I cant wait to play this! Ive been wanting an original top down Zelda gor for many years
Suthorn being Link's hometown surprised me. I'd seen the town on maps in trailers but didn't expect it to be anything notable.
