What you’re looking for is a button at the bottom of the comp named “toggle switch/modes” click on that and it’ll bring up the modes to change it to screen

If you were having trouble like I was with the black solid taking up the screen, remember to click back onto the COMPOSITION TITLE, instead of staying on the LAYER TITLE.

done a couple animated music videos. and the tip i can say do is to skip a frame go 1f,3f, 5f...etc and duplicate and offset the duplicate frames to fill in the even numbered frames. this works best if done on 30 frames of lower cause frames are lower and motion isn't captured as much as 60fps. and there is blur between some frames where motion occurs it gives wiggle room to not be as detailed as doing every frame.
and it helps keep from monkey palming

to anyone who could not get the keyframes to paste and show up on the solid, i found a solution!
duplicate the video layer, change the 'paint on transparent' to on, remove the paint layers from the bottom video and there you go!
should i change the paint on transparent on both layers?

Just the solid black layer. Leave the video layer with no change and the paint brush strokes either turned off or deleted.

i can do them with the normal brush frame by frame but thats wayyyyyy tomuch work... im glad i found this video
you can do it with final cut pro u just need the effect called Draw mask then add a keyframe and press your right arrow key to draw every millisecond of it.

So people are finding Copy and Pasting isn't working. To fix this follow these steps:
1- Duplicate the video layer with the brush effect (Short cut Cmd/Ctrl + D)
2 - Click on one of the video layers
3 - Hold Alt/Option key and click on the black solid in the project file. (Where you important the files)
4 - Drag and drop this solid onto the video layer and it'll replace the video layer with the black solid, but keep the brush effects.

@@HijabiVFXGirl Hey! Thanks for the tutorial, I'm finding after copy and pasting the solid doesn't seem to show at all. The keyframes are there, but after clicking screen and turning the brush strokes off on the the other layer, the paint is just gone. My solid never seems to appear

Nice tutorial! Often what a lot of professional video editors will do is use motion tracking along with plugins to speed this process up. For example, in the Davinci Resolve editing software, I will apply a B-Spline along the path that I want the neon glow to follow, then motion track the subject, and finally apply automated keyframing (adjusting as needed). The B-spline has options for length and position which would allow you to quickly create this affect in minutes! But kudos to you for doing it by hand. It gives a very unique and stylistic touch to it :-)

Hey! glad to see you're still responding to people. I have a problem -- glow is not working. I did everything up to the point where you add the glow, but the lines that I drew aren't glowing. I set everything like you said: 20, 80, and 1.0 but no glow shows up.

the fix for paint key frames not pasting is on her comminuty channel tab :

bruv can you explain that even an idiot like can understand....when i copy paste the brush effect onto the black solid, it is not showing in composition layer
my girl you NEED to use "page up" and "page down" keys to advance the timeline frame by frame... by having to mouse over to the click the next frame button you are taking up WAY too much time and you have to re align the brush tool over where you just painted.
keep your mouse over what your drawing and scrub frame by frame with the "page up and page down" keys... you'll thank me.

To make things easier for beginners just tell them to click command x or control x so that you can cut the brushes from the video layer and then just paste them to the solid layer..now you don't need to go back to the video layer and delete the brushes again....PROBLEM SOLVED

@@HijabiVFXGirl change the speed in youtube. Roll a jay and sitt down and check every 10 sec again if to quick xDD its really not that hard... watched this tutorial when i wrote the comment here, and now im ready with my first 20-30 sec rap video animation

Another solution for the black solid issue is right clicking the black solid layer -> effects -> paint 😏

Okey, so i have a project with 1200 Brush layers, how am i supposed to copy all of them? when ever i scroll down while marking everyone it laggs. how do you do what you do, you just click at the top and then at the bottom and you copy all of the brushes,,
LoeFX Click on the top brush layer (without clicking on any other layer) scroll down to the last brush layer, hold shift down and then click on the last brush layer. It should then highlight all the layers in between.
Alternatively I think you can click on the paint layer (before opening it up) under effects in the comp and right click (or CMD/CTRL + C) and past it into the solid layer.
