im wondering if the quarter inch hole at bottom of the gimbal is strong enough to hold the gimbal and the heavy camera... any thoughts from your experience? thanks
I had no problems so far using the quarter inch hole at the bottom of the gimbal. Zhiyun itself offers a mini monopod in its Creator Accessories Kit which can be attached to this quarter inch hole and shows videos of this combination with the monopod in a horizontal position. But please be careful if you plan to use the Zhiyun Quick Setup Kit. I used it between the gimbal and a long monopod in a horizontal position and although it did not break it was a little bit loose afterwards.
Hello, i'm building a minity with a somewhat heavy rig. Just wondering what your opinion was on the thin threaded bolt that connects the handle of the red king. I didn't notice it until owning it for a while, and thought, why didn't they use a more robust pin 3/8s at least. Do you think this bolt is likely to break?
That is a difficult question. I am not a metallurgist and can only share my experience. I buy steel bolts from a dedicated German company. The combination of camara, lens and gimbal I use weighs about 2700 gram and I never had a real doubt that the bolt that holds this combination to the red king or a monopod would hold. But I also was careful not to make sudden movements, especially when using a extra long steadycam or monopod that was longer than three meters. Thank you very much for your confidence in my craftsmanship. If I were satisfied with the adapter as a product I might make more. But the adapter is more a proof of concept than a finished product. I am very sorry to disappoint you. You might be interested in the “minity long version” , only a few basic tools required.
Nicely done! About to order minity parts. Must have! ....hmmm maybe I should get a drill press? Waiting for the long version DIY.
Very Good idea my friend!
Thank you very much for the support, much appreciated.
