I cant believe something on Television is moving me so. The episodes are just getting better. The last shot of a father, holding his sons books and an umbrella over him as his son tells him about his life interest just touched the perfect note. Imagine a show so relevant that it stays so so many years later. The guest actors have all been superb. I loved this episode
This superb episode was written by Michelle Gallery, who started in the TV biz as a research assistant on this very series. After this, her first script, she went on to write 17 other Lou Grant episodes as well as many more scripts for other shows of the era. One of her two Emmys is for the Lou Grant episode "Dying" (S2E6.) Take note that David Hunt Stafford's character is credited as "Vusnu Das" and not "Tommy Hume" which is just another indication of the top-drawer production behind this series.
I appreciate this show more and more as I get older. The issues it brings up are still very, very valid today. People have an eternal soul. But only Jesus has the way, the truth, and the light.
Yes, we accept that Jesus said that he's the only way. He was speaking as a guru. We say that only through a guru or spiritual master can we reach God Krishna. Jesus is the way, Krishna is the goal. Hare Kṛṣṇa! 💖💕
No, sorry. Jesus is God in the flesh. His supernatural life was described by prophets with shadows of Jesus also in the Bible. Like the three Hebrew children threw into the fiery furnace. The king commented I see three men with the fourth looking like the Son of God. We have each broken some or all of the Ten Commandments. Just like man made laws someone has to pay for breaking God's law. So, for love's sake, Jesus layed His life down for His friends. Jesus never depended on a guru or even met one. This is not about saying my religion is better. It is the truth Jesus is the only way out of going to have to pay for breaking His laws, and stay in the place of being fallen in our sins. Man made religions are the attempt of man to find God. The Way of following the good shepherd Keeps us from going to hell for eternity. A guru will surely die in their sins. Knowing Jesus through repenting, and trusting Him for our lives. Committed, and filled with His presence while listening, and doing His Will is the only way to heaven. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. The only way to turn into a new creature is through Jesus. Any other attempt to get to heaven they are thieves and robbers.
@@Himanshu_Singh793 Could you give me chapter and verse on where the Bible mentions Krisna? I have read and continue to read it and I'm unfamiliar with that passage. Please don't mix Biblical theology with new age nonsense. New-age won't get your feet off the ground.
@@Himanshu_Singh793 So you can't answer my question? I'm quite familiar with the tactics of deflection. My mother was a champ. You know, making the Bible out to be what you want it to be is idolatry. That's very serious. It was punishable by death in the Old Testament. I'm praying you overcome this obstacle and demonic belief.
An excellent episode and I’m glad to see the thoughtful comments that have been posted so far. Speaking as a parent, this is what parenting finally boils down to. Parenting is not the same thing as cloning. Whether you have a child through sex or adoption, they are their own person, and the worst mistake you can make is to try to make them something other than who or what they are. Sometimes, tragically, you will end up with a $#i++y human being no matter what you do, but most of the time you end up with a pretty decent human being. Anything beyond that is icing on the cake, as far as I’m concerned. Be they male, female, gay, straight, transgendered, transexed, effeminate, butch, mentally retarded or physically disabled in some way, spiritual, business-minded, athletic, nerd, boffin, studious, or whatever direction they go in life, whatever, accept them for who they are. They didn’t get any more choice as to who their parents would be than you in choosing them. As long as they aren’t actually seeking to hurt others or themselves, take them for who they are, because honestly, you don’t really have any other choice, and you will both be happier in the end.
what assertiveness. If I was assertive like that, there's no telling how far in life I'd be today. Some have. it, and some don't. Luck of the draw I guess.
30:45--Regarding the "puffs of white smoke" line: That, of course, is how the Vatican signals that a new Pope has been elected. This episode aired Feb. 6, 1978, exactly six months before the death of Pope Paul VI.
I understood the reference. The fact that the line was used in the context of hiring a new religion editor for the newspaper made it especially appropriate. And, you're absolutely right: They would need to fill the position given what would happen in a few months, indeed, twice before the calendar year was out.

...and when a nutcase with a knife broke into his castle he stood on the stairs chanting Hare Krishna, while his wife ran back to the bedroom to grab a poker and then a lamp and actually fight the guy.
Back around this time, some friends of my parents had a daughter that got into a cult. They hired a deprogrammer, who locked her in a motel for days. It worked and she returned to normal life without incident...cost $100,000! Other people weren't so fortunate, though.
From personal experience, I wholeheartedly agree! So much of human history would be vastly different- for the better- but for people's absolute devotion to one or more deities. Without religion, wars, strife and enmities innumerable since time immemorial could have been avoided. Tragically, many of the problems we are experiencing here in the United States, throughout our history but particularly from and after January 20, 1981, find their roots squarely within religion. And, now, devotees of a certain deity who find themselves in the halls of our government are using their religion as the basis for legislation with the sole aim of denying people's innately natural rights, thereby violating our Federal Constitution's prohibition on establishing a religion. What's more, these attempts are also a means of dismantling our Republic and establishing a Theocracy in its place, itself a violation of our Federal Constitution.
I guess that Krishna isn't much different than God of my Christian Bible. I Love Him and my fellow man and God gives me the strength to remain Happy through all the trials and tribulations that life throws my way and recently there have been way to many. I would name them but You all have Your own. Peace to You always.
There are real serious and significant theological differences between various religions and Lord knows (pun intended) that Hinduism has more sects than Christianity has denominations. One can’t just paper over that. However, there some basic principles that they do indeed share.
Art Trombley Actually there is a lot of difference in the two Gods. They are both spiritual people. But the God of the Bible really is the only God of the universe. Either that or Jesus’ claim as God makes him a true liar. Instead Heis the only truth there is.
ART Not true. Krishna is a made-up god of Hindu origin. In the Bible, God clearly says Thou shall not have any other gods before me. All other so-called gods require works, sacrifice, penance, struggle to "reach" god. Christianity is God reaching down to mankind instead. He loves us so much He gave His only Son to pay for all sin for all mankind for all time. NO other religion has that, which is why Christianity is a FAITH, not a manmade religion. God also said that salvation comes by grace, through faith, NOT of works, lest any man should boast (of hiss works). Huge difference.
Art Trombley There is a huge difference between the biblical God, and the Hindu god. The Hindu religion believes a person comes back time after time into different lives depending how good a person does. That stuff is a lie. While the Christian God says a person is appointed once to die, and after that the judgement. The doctrine is not the same, and the Hindu god has three hundred million gods to choose from. It’s an idol, and a lie.
If Lou and Charlie have known each other for 20 or 30 years and are best friends, you'd think that "Tommy" wouldn't need to be introduced. Surely, Lou would have met Charlies kids many times before.
