Hume made the remark that there might not even be a Trib in 20 yrs & the old time newspaper guys were an endangered species. This was long before the internet killed off newspapers
Old people still buy newspapers, just like checking the mailbox every day, even though most mail like bills and ecards could be delivered online, These are old traditions that will never die as long as old people exist💥
I've watched and loved all of these, starting at the beginning. On this one, though, the sound quality seems a bit rough. That's the first complaint I've had. They are all great.
This episode has parallels to "The Outsider" the Mary Tyler Moore episode in which Richard Masur plays a media consultant. There's even a paraphrasing of the line "You're coming to a 'but'" from that MTM episode.
Re: Billie's 1st 'match' - there are types who join agencies Just To Reject their matches! The better the match, the more joy for them to reject them. They actually get quite angry if their match is wrong, not satisfying enough to reject. Or so my friend who works part time for an agency insists. Sounds believable.
Peter Donat, who played Barton, was the ex-husband of Michael Learned of "The Waltons"; the actress who played Rossi's date would later have a running role as Peter White's wife on "St. Elsewhere".
Lou should have remembered that he already did a story on the singles' scene, back when he was in Minneapolis, and the WJM team infiltrated a singles bar (MTM fourth season episode "I Was Single for WJM"), and the result were disastrous.
The Robert Redford line was Walden's tip of the hat to the movie 'All The President's Men' which both of them appeared in.
Thanks I love watching this show. Howbeit, it is real irritating all the static in the audio
Once I started watching I forgot all about the static. I liked this one. Static and all.

There’s still some decent print papers around fighting the good fight against the internet. It’s a hard battle but we seem to be winning.

It gets worse ...as if hard copies were stored improperly
Mrs. Pynchon was the secret sauce; the perfect foil to tie everything together 😂
I hate how all the ads are sort off modern ones that were on AnE and none of the original ads from CBS in '78
The music cue at 38:15 just added to the amusement of Billie's reaction. This show was so good.
I love how Animal is somehow ALWAYS around even if if you don't see him taking any photos at all.
Philip Charles MacKenzie played a similar character in Cheers in that time.
The "lovelorn" guy was Allies husband on Kate & Allie.
Susan was the mommie in Gremlins.
I like the Corvair reference, the dangerous dud car of the late 60s that would spontaneously catch on FIRE
Only now it's a classic.
The Corvair was manufactured by Chevrolet from 1960-1969

Mrs. Pynchon's dog gave a more intetesting perf.
Poor Billie. Reminds me of the MTM episode where Warren Sturgis would not leave Mary alone.

Oh no ....the buzzing

shame about the video quality , great show though !
If you have Dolby, you can pull the treble down & make it reasonably listenable.
I have a similar control ...its better
The media consultant reminds me so much of Eli from The Good Wife.
Ethics in the news! Wish Fox and CNN had some.

Lou bashed a Beetle? How DARE HE!
Was the mic at the top of the screen supposed to be seen at 2:00 or was that just a equipment error?
Good eye 👁 Never noticed it. Studio TV error. Happens in movies too
Too much static this episode..file OFF
Welcome to watching what TV used to be like🤷♂️
