Building a Large Garage: Full Time-Lapse Build

- Building a large Garage with post frame construction is not only efficient, but as seen in this full time-lapse, a very speedy way of constructing a large space for storage. I know I will be asked the questions about concrete, insulation, doors, and probably a million other things, so please keep reading.
The walls are insulated with R-19 fiberglass, the ceiling ended up being blown in fiberglass R-38, the garage doors were installed at a later date....I will plan on a full walk through once the weather is better and concrete has been poured, and electrical, wall finishes, and the connection to the home will be performed by the home owner.
I have been shooting much of my new content on my Canon 80D and GoPro Hero 7 Black. I really like the quality so much more.

I love making these Time-Lapse videos that a person can sit and watch in a relatively short period of time and get an overall idea of what goes into our post frame structures! What do you guys think?
I like it every once in a while, just don’t forget what drew me to your channel was the quality tips you give! Wish I could convince you to come to KY!
Well I enjoy watching them as much as you enjoy making them, Win-Win!
So, can't wait til someone convinces you to build a building down south here with us. I'd wonder how you northern boys would handle it. Seriously though, these are always enjoyable, and I laughed a bit when you poked the wall with the truss.
I love them as a capstone to the final product. However, I think the majority of your audience also loves the raw day-to-day videos about the entire process with unfiltered commentary on the process, tools, and tricks you guys use.
I would love to see how the gluelam beams are made as well as how the inside floors are finished with concrete. I don't think you have shown any videos on those yet...
Keep up the good work!
I love watching them, they are so relaxing and I'm always amazed at how efficient you and your team are. Thanks for the time and effort you put into your channel!
Every time I watch one one of your videos I see something new. @ 1:23 even the post boards are “finger jointed” together! First class all the way.
Very helpful video. A builder here in New Zealand recommended your channel and I have been addicted since. I am blown away by your speed and construction methods and accuracy. I am helping diyers here in New Zealand to understand the process of building simple cabins. I hope I design something using your method someday soon!
It's great! My shed has been completed and it turned out nice looking and sturdy and it is way better than the sheds that many of my neighbors had put up. Of course, I'm pleased with the outcome and this Ryan's th-cam.com/users/postUgkxGZedDTcDfgD7fG_uU4esfx_EgxzlY2_1 Plans was extremely useful to me as a guide.
I’d like to say you guys put in a full days work these videos speed show clouds and time flying by generally early morning til sunset that a long day out in the weather. Feels great when you do it but it catches up as you get older.Your consistency is awesome you all got it down to a science and knock it out.bravo
These guy consistently build some of the nicest quality pole buildings i ve seen. Nice work guys!
Thanks brother
I love how different this is to the building process I’m used to (suburban homes in Melbourne, AU).
And I love all the attention to detail you guys do. And while I love it when these builds are stretched over a series, it has been nice to get a short single one.
I always associate that opening music with The Essential Craftsman. Like him, I watch you because you're clever, expert and humble. Keep up the good work. You guys are an inspiration to folks like me.
Yes sir!
Thanks man
Kyle nice job as always. I love the way the beat of the song matched up with you slapping the side steel panels up. Great editing my friend. A true work of art. I do all kinds of work, but this week i framed up a 30' by 32' garage and it felt great to be out there framing again!
Love just being able to do some framing
Music knocked me right out. This beat is like a sleep chime man. Had to re watch. Like I said in your other videos, I want you to build my garage. 💪🏻
It’s my dream to have a building like this on my rural property Kyle. Love your channel, and your craftsmanship. 👍
Everything is awesome in your vids.
There are two things I would encourage you to consider:
1.) Including a rebar cage in your foundation concrete piers.
2.) Taping or sealing all your laps in your vapor barrier (the interior plastic sheets).
Being in a climate that has large swings in temp. causes the extremes that impact those two elements of a building. In my opinion, if you corrected those items, your builds would really shine in places no one would see, which is a really good thing.
While I like the detailed videos with explaining how (and why) you do things, I can not deny loving this video of just sit back and watch a building go up. And while watching remembering now the will go and do this, than that, trim here, trim there. Straight this, level that. Thumps up.
Saudações do Brasil, I learn a lot of new vocabulary like "purlins", thats a beautifull word, purlins kkkk (this is an onomatopeic soud of LOL. I consider you a good man, humble, hardworker. And I wish to your people luck, God bless you. Thanx.
Very theraputic especially with the music!
I love watching these Time-Lapse videos that a person can sit and watch in a relatively short period of time and get an overall idea of what goes into your post frame structures!
Would love to have you guys build one for me. Unfortunately, not enough land and too far.
A great time lapse. I really enjoyed seeing the build like this. Thanks for sharing.
Great video.. I could watch these all day!
Wow! That video rocked. Outstanding work period. You and your crew are tops in your game!
I just wish I could work that fast... grin. Learning a lot from your videos. great work
Kyle great job on the large garage! You always post interesting building content! Thanks for the excellent video!
Happy place. Thanks!
Cool way to see the whole process at once! Although it is great to learn the process of each part of the job too! Keep up the great work guys!
Thanks
Early for once!
Nice I'm stuck at home recovering from foot surgery, good to have something to pass the time.
Cheers from Tokyo!
Dang man best of luck with that
@@RRBuildings Thanks.
Cut a tendon on my foot, they say I'll be out of work for 10 - 12 weeks, so I'm going to go hard on my TH-cam Channel for in house projects, no office renovations for a while.
You make it look like a kit from a factory but better. Keep up the great content.
That flipping awesome when you guys can lay your side steel and space it out and come back to do the windows and then put in the remaining steel and it fits 😎
Man, that right there is an Academy Award for best documentary and best ceiling.
Great time lapse video Kyle, Challenging build with the house soo close...
You guys turn out an awesome product 😎
A well oiled ballet of production done the right way.
Kyle, I had to chuckle at my self, because I looked twice to see which channel I was watching. I associate your opening music with The Essential Craftsman's channel.
Lol I could see that
Love watching the time lapse videos!
Garage looks to be bigger than the house 🏠.👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I really like the time lapse. You guys do some awesome work
once again, LOOKS AWESOME!!
best video ever, no hair shots, no talking lol
Great video and also that’s great editing to make a full time lapse of that build 👍
great work as always! I find it interesting that you use all the brands of cordless tools. Just goes to show they are all about the same in the end.
Nicely done!
You guys are animals, make it look so easy, why's that, because your good. My building is finally going up next month.
I like this format!
Bloody brilliant - thanks
You were so fast on building you got it done in 12 minutes wow epic
Just Another Damn Nice RR building.
One word...Awesome!
Парни красавцы 💪 со всех сторон приятно посмотреть 🔥🔥🔥👍
Would be Interesting to see the lighting installation. I wonder if it's fluoresce or some type of can or hanging lights.
Good, fun video.
I was looking for the finish to be a drone shot of your logo on the front of the building. Missed opportunity.
not there yet
Great video
I’m having trouble being ok with anyone else building my future shop besides you guys 😜
Loved the video man.
😍😍😍 I need this in my life Kyle
Amazing building. Really enjoyed the video
That was awesome, you are very talented man
Awesome time lapse! Enjoyed this! Awesome lookin garage! Wish I had one of these Haha! Great job man!
Очень нравится как Вы подходите к делу. Привет из России.
Every time I see you nail up that soffit bracket I think to myself "I could smash that stuff flat without even trying"!
Keep up the great work!
Yes, I like to build a shed. Just Good Job for your opinion
An Essential song for a real Craftsman
My first thought was that I clicked in to the wrong video.
@@SephYuyX Same! LOL
Ha! I smiled at the first note! My two favorite craftsmen using the same music...
What song is this place?
That was fun thanks!
Ty My Dude for the video.
Appreciate it hope you like it! Share it to your friends if you want!!
Any luck with contacting previous customers for a revisit tour series? Would be really interesting to see what your customers of done with some of the spaces.🤤
I agree.
Good idea 👍🇺🇸🙏 We see you build.
Don't really see the the finished , FINISHED
Product 🙏🇺🇸👍💪
that was a great video and not just the great workmanship but the camera work great. How many days did that take you?
8 days
Parabéns! Trabalho! Sensacional!
Awesome!
Can you do a tools day video that has all of your equipment. Skid steer, etc
Please show how the insulation of the roof.
Realizing I'm late to the party; Have you ever considered (or can you see a benefit in) using composite grade board, rather than treated timber? Curious. Thanks and great work! - B.
Man I wish you built in NH!
You make me want to be part of the team. 👍💪
nice job
I don't want to be picky but do you ever check the footing sizes? The one to the side of the door looks about a third of what is needed.
There is no electric/plumbing needed for the side walls, that is why you proceeded with insulating and covering right away?
Have you and or your guy's tried those magnetic shoes for metal roofs yet?
Yes we have been trying them out
Damn you guys make it look EASY! question is with my experience (a deck) have you considered installing the Sonotube's to the bottom of the hole? i'd be worried about the frost pushing the concrete up cuz the concrete is jagged on the sides and not smooth...👍
I don’t ever worry about that honestly
Love your videos
Share them with your friends lol
Yes! Another video
Was that a Mulan instrumental? The time lapse are cool but I prefer your other videos talking is through the process.
Awesome!. My question is what do you do about the gap under the building? Pour concrete in and fill the gap?
It will be back filled and prepped for ready mix concrete floor
That's Cool the Building Wrap has your logo on it!
They have had branded wrap for 4 months now at least.
What are they going to do with all the snow that will slide off the roof between the garages?
Blz! Cara muito bom seus vídeos! Parabéns!
Do you guys have to get inspections throughout the build?
You should do an update video on impact drivers and include the Hitachi triple hammer
Is there usually a huge price jump going from say 14 to 16?
Would like a man cave mezzanine with regular 8 ft parking under it, cant wrap my head around flat ceiling like you did here or getting metal beams for increased clearance. Great video
Not really. I’d go 16’
Is home owner doing a reverse gable on the house and tieing in under the soffit of the new building ?
I believe so... will have to remove steel when the time comes
Top angle pieces have short and long end, barely different but would effect size.. Either looks ok but which way is correct?
If this is being connected to the house, which it looked like it was, can you show some detail on that? That's something different from the usual. Otherwise I'm good with the quick time lapse.
Sorry customer wants to do it?
@@RRBuildings the customer is going to make the connection?
How well do these types of buildings hold up to Tornados? They look pretty sturdy to me.
Очень хорошо ! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👌👌👌
Love it. How long did it take y’all?

I’m curious about the size and base price for a building like this.
From my experience, the cost to build such a structure varies considerably and the major portion is in the labor. Generally speaking complexity adds to the cost be it location or topography. If engineering required, that can be a significant add to the project cost. Good starting point with a base case is about $10/sqft for materials. There are several websites that can provide you with a cost estimate online and actually develop a concept.
@Gavin Hendricks I actually started with a common design of 40'x80'x20' at Menard's website. You can launch the pole barn designer in their project center website and at the end, their system will render it. Their system will then calculate the cost of the materials. You can add and take away from the design to do a cost analysis of each independent item and translate to a cost/sqft. Menard's online designer will not allow you to do complex structures, however you can work with the truss, post and metal manufacturer (Midwest Manufacturing) and they will customize and send a true design to Menards and then you will finally get an itemized list with the exact price. My package has two lean-to's and a porch on the gable end. Im currently at ~$9.71/sqft. You can further improve your package with insulation, wall lining, ceiling, cupolas, etc. Once you get heavily into the process, you will get paralysis by analysis on how to install the posts...or at least I have a bad case of it. Install posts above or below grade is a complex question just like vapor barrier placement. My farm is in tornado country and the side loading on a 20' side wall is significant. The anchoring method in a wet set, which is good for post preservation is not sufficient to hold back the force applied. Therefore, I have elected to install heavy plastic sleeves on ends of all my posts with a burial depth of 6' with uplift restraint. The drill will be 24" diameter regardless of the post size. I found the sleeve company independently. I trust I have answered your questions to the best of my ability. I am an engineer but do not hold a PE in structural analysis.
Nicely done! How long did it take in normal speed?

The elevation of the piers especially in the back left corner seems problematic. Did the home owner choose to use an elevation that corresponded to the house?
Yes and back fill will all be done when weather gets better
Quick question. How do you make a strong, hard concrete mix in that weather?
2% calcium and hot water
1 thing i dont understand. Why u dont do roof insulation??
Просто быстро и хорошо :)
What is the cost for something like this? Great video for sure!
Yup, Inquiring minds want to know !
this Blankets used to Insulation they are natural or made from some
synthetic material?
Fiberglass
Ook thank, here in Brazil we don't really use this all the time,so it's kind curious 😁
any reason why you don't insulate the roof?
How much would something like this cost?
