More than the cat trick itself, which is fun but quite simple, what amazes me is his ability to do it on spot while talking. Most of good guitar players would’ve made a little pause to “calibrate” his ears and make sure he hits the notes right. Steve does it cold, without even thinking. That means he practiced it so much, it’s already implanted in his mind.
None other than Steve Vai :) He is the LEGEND. So proud and thankful to own the white version of that same Universe he's playing in this video (1990 UV7PWH) On top of that, the man himself signed it for me!
He makes great guitar effects like Hendrix. His best playing was on Eat 'em and Smile, Whitesnake album Slip of the Tongue, and his movie part in Crossroads.
@Curtis Dunlap I'll have to listen to that album again, but I remember it being real tame compared to Eat 'em and Smile. It felt like they were going for a more commercially accepted album, and it sounded like Steve wasn't playing like his usual self.
@DPhasely it's one of my most played albums on spotify, I think everything vai has played on has been great, the full whitesnake Donington 1990 show is on here, its amazing
@@danburns4003 when that album premiered I played it constantly! Such great guitar work. I think they paid Vai 4 million dollars up front to join the band.
Steve Vai.....Frank Zapp Zappa's 'little Italian ' playing impossible guitar parts for the maestro, has now become the master. True virtuoso, Ibanez collaborator on an incredible range of guitars, former student of Joe Satriani and a regular G3 guitarist, guitar player gallery of the greats inductee, collaborator on Amplifiers and stomp box effects units, and a great teacher and transcriber of music, Berkeley college graduate and Alumni. Mindblowing performer and cited to be the guitar behind an upcoming AAA video game. Having bought his Ibanez jem 777 guitar in the 90s I can say out of the 41 guitars I own, is a testament to his eye for detail, flash, tone and extreme playability.......shame I can't play like him, in my top 5 G.O.A.T.
Steve is an artist. Pure and simple. Music is his art. Yes, he can shred when he wants to, but that’s missing the point. He is all about the music and expressing emotion through music. “Shredding” is just one of the tools he uses. He isn’t trying to prove anything. He interprets the world through music. True artists just see the world differently in a way that the rest of us will never understand. I remember an article he wrote in a guitar magazine back in the day where he was trying to explain the expression of an experience via music. He gave as an example the “perfect” chord to express the experience of biting into a fresh apple. (Yes, that sh*t flew right over my head!) This guy is just operating on a different level.
That’s a epic guitar bet it would be worth 100k if it’s still useable way to nice but then again it’s a honor for something to be used till broken means it was good
Hey Steve, I suggest a collaboration with Mohini Dey (bass player). I believe the elements of funk, jazz, and her technical/creative execution would marry well with your compositional style, exuberance, passion, raw energy and execution. Let me know what you think. One example is this: kick'N'Bass (but keep in mind her genre crossing is many fold) , or this jazzy/rock/funk piece: buttery buns. Or this (heavy Zappa/jazz compositional style): things that don't fit.
Steve looks like Patrick Bateman lol 😅
