  • A beautiful example of this classic amp. Tremelo very weak so I fixed that and checked the whole amp over.

    Nicely done, Sir. I have a 68 SR drip edge with the same problem. After swapping the oscillator tube to no effect, I'm just about to pull the chassis. Ironic, isn't it, that when we were strapping young players, we couldn't afford these "dream amps". Now that we're old and retired, we can finally afford to buy one, but we can't physically carry the blasted things in and out of gigs, Lol. This 75 yr old (but still gigging) Canadian loves your channel. Thanks!!

    Thx for the great video. I have the same vibrato issue on a '79 Vibrolux Reverb. I will be replacing the roach.
    I thought it would be worthwhile mentioning that the reverb transformer appears to have been replaced on this Super.

    The ultimate 'pro' guitar amp.. But prepared for a hernia op if you lift it too many times.

    Hi Stuart - enjoying your repair vids - any chance of any 'Lab Tour' videos of your workshop set-up?

      Hmm, maybe. I'll have to move the blow up doll, skeleton suit and 'My Little Pony' figurine collection first though....

      @@gervaiscurrie6675 That's very strange you should say that as I only learned yesterday what a 'Getter' was!

    Thanks a million for this video- I had the same problem and I ordered the part so that I can fix it up. I'd love to know how to clean up the sound on the amplifier, as it's got quite a bit of background noise. Thanks again!

      Glas you enjoyed it! Hard to know what to advise about the background noise. Could be a fair few things. All the best

    Just found this. I make my own trem roaches, a dollar's worth of parts and Bob's yer uncle.

    Lots to learn here and you explain it all very well. I'm looking at a variac on ebay. Brand name Yaecc. Is there a voltage and wattage you recommend?

    • @stuartukguitarampguy5830
      @stuartukguitarampguy5830  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Variac varies the voltage so there is no 'voltage' component to the spec. Go for the largest you can afford but 200W minimum.

    Another great video with one of the best amps ever.
    I am currently repairing a friend's 1979 Marshall JTM 100w Lead (2203) and am unable to troubleshoot a problem. The problem is that the amplifier receives an FM radio station. I have checked capacitors, ground, and even added several ground points to the chassis, but the problem continues.
    I have only managed to reduce the problem through an EMI filter on the 230V input. Only this amplifier does it, if I connect another Marshall, Fender, etc to the mains, it does not pick up any radio station.
    I am already absolutely lost.
    I learn a lot by watching your videos, I'm just an old guitarist and tech and hobbyist. Thanks for your lessons. I look forward to the next video.
    Cheers

      HYi. You could try and see if it is coming in through the jack or through the mains. Put a short circuit jack plug in the input and see if that kills it. If so, a small value cap across the input jack socket might cure it.

      @@stuartukguitarampguy5830 Hi Stuart, effectively, if I short the signal on the cable it decreases the reception a bit, but it is not eliminated. So I think my friend has a grounding problem at his house. I don't know if I will be able to fix it with a capacitor.
      Thank you very much for your kindness and for your answer.
      Cheers

    Really love your videos Stuart I see you use a lot of JJ tubes I used to big a big user of JJs but most of my amps take EL 34 tubes I’ve had to many JJs fail so I switched to EXH and tungsol and switched my preamp tubes to EXH and Mesa boogie 12ax7s

    • @stuartukguitarampguy5830
      @stuartukguitarampguy5830  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I no longer use JJ EL34 in MArshall high plate voltage 100W amps as I have had too many arc over. I use 'Marshall' brand - can't recall who actually makes them but they seem to be able to take a higher voltage. JJ are in trouble right now, they can;t supply in anything like the quantity people want, their customer service SUCKS and their quality has deteriorated.
