- With the help of guide and friend Remi Warren, Steven Rinella gears up for a massive climb into New Zealand’s Southern Alps in pursuit of Chamois and Tahr. The hunters will travel light and base out of an alpine hut to find animals Steve has never hunted. Things turns adventurous quickly; with an impassable glacial river between Steve and his goal. I’m a more novice hunter, even though I grew up around hunting. This past weekend I was hunting with my cousin and he shot a small 6 point. We both learned how to field dress a deer, and after watching a lot of meat eater I decided to save the heart and try it. It was honestly really good. It felt good not to waste it. Thanks Steve 🙏

@@Monscent There's actually quite a few non hunters who think any organs are gross or similar to keeping organ like the stomach without trying it. It's the grocery store mind set.

Never hunted in my life yet, here I am enjoying this channel.
Just started watching this and im hooked. People think hunting is cruel but watching this its taught me its a way of life. Its necessary. They really care about these animals as its their food

Imagine what it was like before man arrived 800 years ago, moas which are about double the size of ostriches, haast eagles that use to swoop down on moas and take the smaller ones away (biggest eagle ever) and the noise was deafening with bird song apparently. Then Maori came and ate all the moas which also made the haast eagle extict . My home country was really fucked up by man.

First time I went "hunting", I had zero idea what I was getting into. My first time was with friends..scared out of my mind on what, where, when or how...But was also seriously amped up for the excitement, thrill, and beauty of it all.
That was over 30 years ago. The thrill and excitement are still to be had. It's ALWAYS a joy to be able to hear, smell and watch the wilderness come alive while you sit and glass a ridge.
That intro was EPIC

Not a big hunter. I do occasionally but I love anything this fella does from podcasts to this show. That says something to his talent to entertain someone who has no real dog in it
Basic info on climbing harnesses: Those loops you guys cliped into are not meant to hold any weight. They are meant to clip your gear on. If you tie in always do it on the front, the loops on the side will break very easily
Yhen you've goy a piece of shit rig... My tower rig will hold wherever I tie or clip to...

Steve was right on the money when talking about the competing thoughts when I'm about to go high in the Alps. There is clear danger, and there is a drive to head high to enjoy the mountains and bring home some meat. He summarised it perfectly for me. I've hunted that area a lot, so many peaceful nights making my way down to the ute/camp with a heavy pack, groaning knees, sweating back, and light smile on my face. Good times.
Something inside us that sadly a lot of people have seemed to have lost.

I remember sitting at the foothills of the Southern Alps when a few Tahr bolted out from the trees behind me. Scared the hell out of me, first time seeing one. Also, the South Island of NZ is really one of those magical places on Earth. It really has a spiritual force.

If I was chest deep in a river, I'd be glad Remi was holding the rope. Epic hunt man, love it when you two team up.
That's what I miss the most about home, the huts. They are literally everywhere and each one has it's own character. I am more of a hiker and the way it goes is each hut is about 2-6 hours away from the next on each track , so you walk from hut to hut. There are about 1000 of them scattered throughout NZ.

When Steve says it’s to hair or he’s not feeling it. You know it’s bad.
Idea- link up with Chef Roi Choi or Chef David Chang for a celebrity cooking co-host episode. He's an amazing chef who like Steve uses traditional foods from different cultures and combines or alters the techniques and recipes with amazing results. I bet he could help Steve figure out other ways to solve some of the different cooking problems associated with different game meats.
They're both funny as heck and specialize in creating new recipes and are definitely open to new experiences like hunting, as you can tell from their Netflix cooking shows, "The Chef Show" and "Ugly Delicious". I bet Steve could take them on a hunt based around what type of game they want to experiment with and make 2 episodes out of it! Take care y'all!

we have those kind of public cabins in Norway too haha. But i think you might have to be part of the national hunting and fishing association to get a key or a map of where they are, I dont remember quite.
We slept in some of them when we went on hunts and fishing trips with my high school

My first stay at that hut was when I was 19, best toilet view ever! Whe got hit by a storm front second night, and the wire cables bolting the hut to the mountain were humming and singing allll night. Epic . Don't tell everybody where this is, last thing we need is mouth breathing tourists trashing the place. We also had a crack at crossing, wasn't quite as much water, but it was enough we backed out, hypothermia guaranteed there.mid winter the lake can be Ice skated though, for the brave....

We have these in NM apparently, in the regs it’s classified as a non game species that a license isn’t needed to hunt as a resident.
Neither my dad or myself have ever seen one however
