Yep, creators get treated pretty different at CES. Showing up with a green badge marked Media gets you "special level." But showing up with green badge marked Digital Content Creator and saying, "TH-cam channel" gets you, "we shall drop everything for you" level. CES is fun though! Four years in... this year was weird, more spread out than ever... and filled with tons of things. And some of it not terrible.
You really shouldn’t feel impostor syndrome. This video is one of the best, if not the best, I’ve seen from CES. I’m so glad you went and shared your perspective-it’s both unique and captivating.
Couldn't agree more. Jeff makes great content -- I don't even have a spotify car thing or a vita, but they were all great watches. I hope he makes enough off these videos to justify more storage (or maybe UGREEN can hook our boy up lol)
Dude i love this comment so much. Tech stuff is always perfect until the tiny humans find it. Its to the point where you gotta consider how toddler friendly devices are before you get em 🤣
theyve always had good prices for their phones. i remember they had phones that lasted weeks on a single charge with massive batteries and was always a fan of their infrared cameras. had one way back in the day that lasted me 3 days on a single charge, sad i had to upgrade eventually simply due to hardware limitations. Love that company
flagships are overpriced AF, you can get a lot of phone for not a lot of money nowadays, it will have a worse processor on board but hell phone processors have been "good enough" for years
tough phones are usually a good deal because many are purchased by your employers. I have one that I bought because I was tired of worrying about my phone when working on boats or while hiking or in the middle of nowhere. Best phone I have ever had. the screen is broken, so, yeah is not indestructible, but believe me, if I had an Iphone that I treated like this one, it would have exploded by now. The only problem is the weight and size, but if you are willing to carry that monster around, you will be happy as a dog with two tails. Mine has night vision (infrared) and its actually really good, I wouldnt say useful because a flashlight will always be better to find stuff in the dark, but its a cool party trick.
Between the Switch and Steam Deck, an expected price point has been set for consumers - so $1000 seems like "too much". Yeah they lack the power to play _everything,_ but that's not why people buy them - portables are treated as a substitute for when people _can't_ be at their desktop, a time filler, something to tide them over until they can get back home. The only people who will go for the MSI are people constantly on the road, or those with a bunch of money to blow.
There is something infectious about Jeff's excitement about tech that made this one of his best videos. It helps that he rocks the john romero look for extra nerd credit.
DUDE I'm literally daily driving the armor24! I work construction and it really does hold up. I use the light and output charging all the time, and it gets charged itself every 4 days. there are some os quality of life issues when switching from a galaxy, but they're manageable with some in depth ui overhauling. I've never experienced any slowness or hardware problems despite aggressive use and near constant uptime. tldr: it really does everything it claims to and I fully recommend this as a main personal device.
It's because the current existing handhelds pcs do pretty much the same thing at much lower prices than the 900 they are asking for. The Claw doesn't exist in a vacuum. Yes it runs longer at the same performance as the previous gen, but for the budget conscious that is easily solvable with a battery pack or plugged in.
Obvious use case for that Khadas portable PC here: pair it with XR glasses like the XREALs instead of a laptop. One screen for all your devices. Ultimate privacy and great entertainment options!
Great video! I didn't get to see everything. I was tired on the second day, and my watch kept congratulating me on the steps I'd walked every hour and achieving new records. The show had many things I wished I had spent more time on, but it was almost impossible to filter vendors like the phone game controller attachment module, Im glad you found a gold nugget in the sea of products. Im planning to update my NAS server this year and look more into products like Ugreen because Synology is getting pricy.
Dang, that NAS setup is pretty much exactly what I’ve been looking for. I’m a little surprised at the price tag but honestly I might just bite the bullet and get one. I already have a drive bay, but this is definitely a better solution
Thanks for this breakdown, really interesting stuff going on out there. I appreciate you taking the time to distill all this down to "just the good stuff" Regarding the portable PC thing. I kinda feel like at some point that'll just be our phone, right? Seems like it's going in that direction!
I have seen some of your videos in the past and always enjoyed them. But your overall excitement for fun tech in this video convinced me to actually subscribe. Keep it up your content is great.
I love this channel the first video I watched was switch oled jailbreak and I just kept watching I don't even have any console or a pc but these video are so good.Keep it up ❤
I got in on the early bird discount on the m-con controller for $99. It’s a bit much, but I feel this may actually be worth it in the long run. I’ve been following his prototype journey on his TH-cam channel, and he is onto something
I think you would probably want a GPD Win Max or even GPD Win Mini, but with the newest APU used by that new gaming windows tablet (which comes with a magnetic keyboard) also from CES. The keyboard and trackpad will still allow full editing capabilities. Also, the controller for the smartphone could really use having two models, a flat one with those less-good joysticks like his previous versions, and a bulky one with proper joysticks like the one at CES.
The electrochromic dimming tech that Xreal has first showed up in the Xreal Air 2 Pro glasses. They still have he shield as an option but most reviews I have seen tend not to use it as the electrochromic dimming does the job pretty well without needing to attach something to the glasses. The main advantage of having a physical cover is you can put one on with large side flaps so you really isolate your ability to see outside the glasses if you're say, on a flight, and want to just focus on the screen.
I'm glad I returned my XREAL, and waited for this tech to mature more. Might wait another year depending on reviews. BUT I don't think it needs more than one more year to be matured enough.
Those durable phones are super necessary given that Kyocera isn’t as big in the scene anymore. I used to sell TONS of their “indestructible” smartphones to blue collar workers - construction, landscaping, trades like plumbing or electricians, etc.
I think creators are treated differently at CES because most creators cover Niche subjects or preferences. For example the portable computer with a battery with docking you were mentioning being your jam. I've watched your channel for years, don't recall you ever mentioning this preference, and yet I have this same preference for computer usage, lol. Good going and congrats on getting to CES.
I would go with a gpd win mini or gpd win max 2 over the claw, the built in keyboard makes it far more useful and the clamshell makes it more durable in a bag, and the kadas is limited by needing to have the rest of the setuo while the gpd devices are all in one and can be expanded with thunderbolt/usb4
I used to have a ulefone, it never got updates, apps stopped working after a year, the camera was complete trash and more. Lasted maybe 3 days only. Was actually watertight
i dont think pc handhelds and portable mini pcs are comparable, a pc handheld might seem smaller than a laptop but in reality, the added thickness and the exposed joycons, buttons and the screen leading to a case being required make it considerably thicker than any laptop. its also just a weird shape that you cant really slide into a bag as easily as you could with a laptop or mini pc
MCON....backed the moment I saw it go live.... it's a dream device for me, to play games wherever I want.... All the controller addons are so big, not pocketsable, even smaller emulation devices are kind big if you want any battery life out of it. With how successful the kickstarter is just for preorders, I have to imagine there will be a slim version in the year or two after the first product launch.
The original design before the rework for public release was much like you described, albeit being hyper-tailored for a specific model of iPhone. I too want the 3DS slider style analog stick, but Nintendo may have a patent on that specific design or that design may be more expensive, given its compactness.
That Atari one is less stupid than I'd have thought based on recent Atari products, especially at $150 (it's relatively cheap, I'm saying). Just a handheld to easily play paddle and trackball games is a quite unique and is something no one else offers but Atari is known for. Probably not getting it, but if the trackball and spinner are good, I know some people will want one. Also wanted to say, good video! Subscribing.
Omg I did a "YES" Out loud when you showed the Mecha Comet! Why haven't other developments integrated a NIC into a handheld before? If you answer why would they then you clearly don't have a use case for such a thing to exist! I CANT WAIT TO BUY ONE!!!
It's a good thing Sony's patent on the phone controller patent is going into public domain in a few months cause we need stuff like the phone controller you showed. Then again I dunno if this would fall under that patent so it'll probably be fine, either way that controller is cool & seems pretty useful for playing games on your phone.
Love the perspective on the Claw. As much as $900 usd is a lot of money, the Intel 7 processor in it is a few hundred on its own. A nice intel 7 laptop will cost at least that much.
9:10 that would be me 😂😂😂😂 I got the ulefone armor 25 T pro Because my friend Yeeted one like 20 Meters away and it survived only a Bit scratched Oh and for thermal/Night Vision of course😂😂😂😂😂❤
I wonder how the Ulephone would do mounted on a dual sport motorcycle. More specificlly the cameras. The vibrations from trails can damage phone cameras. As rugged as it may be, this may be too big of a hurdle for it.
In regards to the ohsnap controller, I don't like the idea of sticking a magnet on my phone. I have a Oneplus 12, the surface is too rough for that. Also the design will not fit with phone that have a large circular design for the cameras at the back. Also will a case fit once you have the magnet in place? It looks quite thick. I think these kind of controller needs a bit more work on the design.
My teacher got one of the ulefones its really upsurd im sure the ground would Break if he dropped and that there is a realistic Risk that it will create a blackhole
16:02 The difficulty is that because it resembles a gaming console, a lot of consumers will look at it in the context of consoles, which are close to half the price. Is that a fair comparison? No, but it still ends up happening.
the MCON only it's a modded controller of an existing controller, unless he already creates her own board, he's going to be on big troubles if get on a demand
