I had a panel interview with 4 people. I researched the company and prepped for discussion of my skills. They spent 70% of the time trying to talk about things THAT I HAD NOT DONE in lieu of things I had done. I mean they saw my resume before they called me in right? I can discuss what I have done and what the employer does BUT I CANT SPEAK TO WHAT I HAVENT DONE except say that I have relevant experience to do it going forward.

1:23 This happened to me in a recent interview. The supervisory accountant called me out - that we are halfway through the interview and I have only answered 3 of their questions. There are 8 total questions plus a couple non-scored questions... I knew the interview was over right then 😞

I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. In 1993, I interviewed for a day camp position at a local community center. The hiring manager was cool and cordial enough, but when she said, "I have 33 candidates, and 6 spots," I knew that I was doomed. Not that I was unworthy. Rather, I've never been one to "pull ahead of the pack," and certainly wasn't at age 20. By contrast, when I worked an undesirable job at a call center for a bank, it was known that we were "hiring like crazy." That meant, many many spots available, for those who wanted to work.

I get enough interviewers asking me why I left my business or why I wouldn't want to continue or would my business be an issue in the future, even though I don't have the business any longer.

Hiring managers are super paranoid about it. It comes down to risk mitigation. Fair or not, that’s what they are considering.

Once I was told that if they hired me, there would be more women in the team. As soon I heard that I felt miserable. In the end they didn't hire me.
At least they informed me with their feedback that the other person had a better match, so i wasn't ghosted.

In the first part there were two senior engineers who took a long interview and that interview went really well they asked about my salary told me about the role in detail and then they asked me to wait and then called me again for another interview with their senior operations manager , everything went well but his one line made me confuse that he is just getting confuse because i dont have the industry experience as i have been doing office job from the start. What do you think

What if they say they are looking to hire 3-5 candidates and that you are the first candidate being interviewed and that their interviewing process will last for one week after which you will hear from them? In addition, if the HR Manager didn't show up for the interview but a major partner carried out the interview process is that a good sign? This is at one of the Big 4 .

I had an interview where I read the job description, went of the website, and studying. In the interview I did answer to all their question, and they even skip some questions cause I answer it very well. However, I the end, they told me what was the job exactly it was completly NOT in the description and they don't even mention in the description the specific client. I decide to remove myself and I don't want to continue the process. I found very misguided from their part.

Whenever they say "we have other candidates" I simply tell them , thanks for letting me know, I have another interview. Good managers/consultants/recruiters don´t state the obvious, it´s simply a dumb filler...

@@BenTalksTalent No assumptions, experience & need to bring up the obvious, yes companies have multiple candidates and candidates have multiple companies/interviews. Good hiring managers/recruiters don´t mention it, It´s a given, so by saying that it shows lack of social skills among few other things. How do you seriously think it would fly over if candidates did the exact same with companies by mentioning that at the end of an interview?! "Thanks for your time , however I have other companies being interviewed with..."

Unless it´s the final stage and you´re the last one then sure on the off chance...The point is, it shouldn´t be said at all, as I previously stated if that comment was flipped, would the company be more inclined to move forward with you, probably not.

I had to search for this video because I am really nervous about an interview I had last week.
The interview went on for more than 30 minutes. I was asked a lot of scenario questions and at a point the lady interviewing me asked if they are not stressing me, I smiled and told her no they are not.
When she was done asking me her questions, she asked the other man if he has any questions for me and he said yes that he would like to ask me one question, then he asked me to tell him of a time when I have handled an angry customer, which I did well..at the end he told me weldone.
They asked me of my current job role, my salary expectation, my preferred job location, when I will like to resume and all that. Then she said we really enjoyed our time with you, we will get back to you in the next 24-48hrs and that was supposed to be last week Thursday/Friday.
I have not heard back from them and its already 4days now. I don't know if I should send an email or just let it be?
The interview invite showed 2-4pm as the interview time but a friend said what they do is, they just put that time because you are not the only person they are interviewing so I can't really say the amount of time allocated to me.
I was not asked if I have any question for them... Other than that I didn't experience all the signs listed here.
    What do you think?

    • @BenTalksTalent
      @BenTalksTalent  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Honestly it’s hard to tell. The interview sounded positive, but only going 30 minutes out of 120 would concern me. So, with this info it’s hard to speculate the outcome.

Hi Ben, thanks for this informative video. However, if I, as a candidate, was to hear any of the 10 things that you mentioned, should I interpret as a dead giveaway from the hiring manager that they pretty much made their decision and I won't be hired for the position? Or rather as an opportunity to clarify to them matters that I perhaps did not touch upon or explain clearly enough? (of course, in hopes of landing the position that I am applying for and being interviewed for)

    • @BenTalksTalent

I think context matters here and what other signs did you see. Where there any positive. If you see one bad sign but 5 good ones, there might still be reason for optimism.

Yup, I’ve definitely heard the “we’re still interviewing lots of candidates….” 😬😑🫤 (thankfully not the others). By the way, Ben, what’re your thoughts on the interviewer telling you there are “higher level” jobs/roles (that pay more) that I should apply for. Needless to say, I didn’t get to job I interviewed for. (I guess they meant I was “overqualified” for the job I applied for? Or something else?) 🤨
