I used to watch this every morning in bed with our little boy. He was 2 and mesmerized by it all. Somehow we stopped watching it (at age 3.5 ) when his little bother was born. Today I played it and my son (now 6!) came running, leaning his head on my chest. Holding my hand. He listened very carefully and squeezed my hand with kate’s beautiful high notes. When it stopped he turned, smiled and went back to play with his thomas trains. No words. Magic 😊

For an experienced (trained) singer it's not such a long note. One of my singing teachers insisted on me learning to hold notes for twice that length at the volume, so even though I'm asthmatic i still have plenty left in the tank at the end of this song. Just a case of breathing properly, supporting correctly from the diaphragm, developing a good clear tone (breathy tones have their place, but for a note that long breathy = wasted air!) And I also find it helps to imagine pulling the note (or run of notes) in towards me, rather than pushing it out. Don't know why it works but it really does!
@@analyssetodd1069 Most untrained people can probably hold a note for 8 seconds. Trained singers should probably be able to do 12 - 18, and real pros can do 25+. 12 seconds really isn't long at all.
Well, Jeremy holds his from 4:41 to 5:01 so that's 20 seconds and it's not a great note to sing just fill out like that so I call that pretty impressive in itself.

Yes, the high soprano definitely shines in this medley, but it's all the others singing in the background that allow her to rise above as she does. That's the beauty of ensemble singing--everyone is important and necessary. It is so beautiful I have to listen to it alone so I can cry.

I stumbled across this video years ago and I come back every so often for a listen. The talent in the studio is absolutely off the charts ! That same emotion is clearly shared by the young man in the duo who's expressions are a dead giveaway that he's as equally blown away by Voctave and just ecstatic to be in that room.

For an experienced (trained) singer it's not such a long note. One of my singing teachers insisted on me learning to hold notes for twice that length at the volume, so even though I'm asthmatic i still have plenty left in the tank at the end of this song. Just a case of breathing properly, supporting correctly from the diaphragm, developing a good clear tone (breathy tones have their place, but for a note that long breathy = wasted air!) And I also find it helps to imagine pulling the note (or run of notes) in towards me, rather than pushing it out. Don't know why it works but it really does!
@@analyssetodd1069 Most untrained people can probably hold a note for 8 seconds. Trained singers should probably be able to do 12 - 18, and real pros can do 25+. 12 seconds really isn't long at all.
Well, Jeremy holds his from 4:41 to 5:01 so that's 20 seconds and it's not a great note to sing just fill out like that so I call that pretty impressive in itself.
8 years later and still finding this absolutely tremendous the harmony of the voices and the voice of Kirstin…I’m in awe. Such a beautiful arrangement.

Yes, the high soprano definitely shines in this medley, but it's all the others singing in the background that allow her to rise above as she does. That's the beauty of ensemble singing--everyone is important and necessary. It is so beautiful I have to listen to it alone so I can cry.
I just watch Jeremy Michael Lewis' face the entire time because he looks so happy and in awe of what they are making/singing :) that feeling of pure joy is unforgettable, everyone was amazing

I stumbled across this video years ago and I come back every so often for a listen. The talent in the studio is absolutely off the charts ! That same emotion is clearly shared by the young man in the duo who's expressions are a dead giveaway that he's as equally blown away by Voctave and just ecstatic to be in that room.
I LOVE that giddy, beaming smile Jeremy had a few times when he looked over at the chorus! He was probably thinking 'These singers are unbelievably KICK ASS!!!'
