Great review. I just got mine delivered which I ordered on Black Friday. This brought the price down from $180 to $108 on the Adidas site. I can't wait to run in them. Thanks
Really nice to see some lower stack racers for courses with twist and turns. It's almost an evolution of the Adizero Pro, both in terms of characteristics and durability!
Matt hasn’t run in Liberate, but where the Liberate is all about a natural, flexible ride, the Takumi has both more stack which is good for slightly further distances and is snappy with the rods. We consider the Liberate a great workout shoe whereas the Takumi can both do great workouts and you can bring them into race day for those shorter distances races.
if you were to race a 5k would you pick ts8 or next%2? i got the endorphin pro 3 and i love it but a bit underwhelmed on near top speed workouts. i want a shoe for 5k/mile pace workouts that won't trash the legs. i could run those paces with kinvaras but legs feel like jelly after the workout
That's a premiere man! I just saw this shoe in Adidas's website and now you have an initial review, fantastic! The adios pro 2 did not convince me bc of my mechanics, I tend to have a pretty low vertical oscillation and quick turnover...and yes, I bought the Asics metaspeed edge. Would you say this is an "edge" model for those who don't fit that well on the Adios pro 2?
I wouldn't compare it to the edge only because I didn't like the edge. But in a sense yes. It is a slightly lower stack, less biased ride that will likely do much better for those who did not do well in the Adios Pro 2 due to the stack height. -Matt
Thank you Matt. Other reviewers praise this shoe but claim it's narrow. Good to know it is not laterally biased. Kills me. Hate that lateral bias in neutral shoes.
How do these compare to the Adidas Adizero Pro? I have used the Adizero Pro for London Marathon and like the Lowe stack and stability of them. Would this be more similar of a shoe to move to rather than the Adios Pro 2?
I'm considering this this one, only reservation is I'm a mid foot striker (unless fast reps) really not sure if its going to work given the mid foot area on the shoe.
I was watching a lot of your (Matt) reviews today and you were reminding me of someone, but i couldn't figure out who it is. I finally got it. It's Thomas Müller, a german football (soccer) player.
I just do not see how this fits with the previous shoes on the line. Went from a racing flat to something akin to what KISS would wear in a show (like any other running shoe nowadays the more stack, the better). Not sure this is for me. Thanks, nice review!
Hi. Excelente review as always. Only one question, between the Tz8 and the adiosp2 which shoes more narrow on the midfoot, and do You think booth shoe are the same size largue? Thanks.
Great review.. mine arrive tomorrow. Love light strike pro .. l have 2 pairs of the AAApro2 and love it's big brother the Prime X for my 55 yr old legs. Bit concerned you've likened it to the Metaspeed Edge ... Not a super shoe for me ..way short of energy return and way too bloody small 😡 The $64.000 question is tho.. "Faster than the Vaporfly??" 🤔
I had to mention it, but agree not a super shoe. I found it way too small and sent it to David for a follow up review. Whether it is faster than the Vaporfly is going to be individual. My mechanics do not work well with the super soft ZoomX foam, so for me this shoe is faster, but that will be different for others! -Matt
Question can you take the insole out of the Takumi Sen 8? Thanks for the initial feedback! I am a huge fan of all of the classic Adidas racing flats! I feel like I am the only person that liked the adizero pro! (I am pretty sure you really liked that one too!)
William! As I stated, no you cannot! So those who need to put in orthotics will have to look elsewhere. David and I both liked the Adizero Pro (it was one of our top shoes that year)! -Matt
Hi Matt, I have Dublin marathon coming up and was thinking of wearing the VF Next %2 (along with the majority I expect), however I have my 5 & 10k bp's in these and as a 5ft 8'' slight / slim personal who will be running just under 8 min miles (3.30 pace) would these be better. I know you can't really answer for me but just wondered if my weight and moderate pace would really work the plate in the Nike's or would the less rigid TS8 a better option for me?
As adidas is using Climbing shoe Rubber you may ask a shoemaker reapairing Five.Ten/5.10-climbing shoes. Just using a more durable Rubber than the one for extreme Grades for Climbing.
No US 14 again unfortunately. I have tried the Adios Pro 2 in the biggest US 13/UK 12.5 and it feels about 0.5 less than ideal for me having now got used to some room up front in other brands. I also have a relatively narrow foot so sounds like compromised length & width here and one reluctantly I can miss. Shame because, as you say, this class of "super" shoe has not really existed. Streak LT4 seems a bit too minimalist on the road for me these days for instance.
The Takumi Sen 8 and Adios 6 are two completely different shoes. The Takumi Sen 8 is racing shoe with cushion, while I argue the Adios 6 is the new Boston. The Adios 6 runs firmer, with a higher drop and narrower fit. The Takumi Sen 8 runs slightly softer, way lighter, with a wider fit. -Matt
Kinda makes me regret the purchase pf my Adios Pro 2. 27mm in the forefoot sounds enough for a HM, considering I did one on Razor 3 and another on Rebels 1… For Marathon I am still not sure if I can handle the Pro 2, and will probably use the RC 2s. Looking forward to further reviews on the Takumi 8s.
The Adios Pro 2 and Takumi Sen 8 are very different shoes. There is plenty of cushioning, especially if you run in the RC 2s. The Adios Pro 2 is a unique shoe, but again those higher super stack shoes may not be for everyone. I like each one, but for different reasons. -Matt
Yes! I'm surprised he didn't get his hands on these. Can you run super fast in the Adios Pro 2? Yes. Like I said, I've run the last several 5ks in the Adios Pro 2 (nowhere near what Drew Hunter can do), but it will come down to personal preference. -Matt
They are a lower drop Adios pro 2 with a more airy mesh (the same as the adios 6) in the front, lower weight, and more durable Continental rubber. For the forefoot strikers, they are only 2.5 mm lower stack height in the front (27 vs 29.5 mm) than the Adios pro 2.
Carlos that is a great question. It really depends on what I was training for. For half marathon and up I would choose the Adios Pro 2, for half marathon and down I would choose the Takumi Sen 8! -Matt
@@DoctorsofRunning Matt, I'm running since 5 years now in drop 4 to 6. I tried 0 drop not for me. I don't know if drop 8 can help me on some point but it can be an instructing discussion.

2:58 hi could you link to the youtube on how adding arch support… Thanks in advance.
Thx for commenting on the toe box width! Room for toe splay is key for me (midfoot/heel lockdown + wide-ish toe box = sweet spot for speed).
Wally! That's something I (Matt) look for and was one of the first things I noticed!
-Matt
Really nice to see some lower stack racers for courses with twist and turns. It's almost an evolution of the Adizero Pro, both in terms of characteristics and durability!
SK definitely agree. Taking quick turns in these are much more stable!

Nice review...how does this compare to the Liberate I terms of ride and response

We consider the Liberate a great workout shoe whereas the Takumi can both do great workouts and you can bring them into race day for those shorter distances races.
First comparison that comes to my mind is Puma Nitro Deviate Elite. About the same stack and weight. Any initial thoughts on that? 🧐🙂
I second this question! I love my Nitro Elites even at the 5k distance, but these sound really similar and very interesting.
if you were to race a 5k would you pick ts8 or next%2? i got the endorphin pro 3 and i love it but a bit underwhelmed on near top speed workouts. i want a shoe for 5k/mile pace workouts that won't trash the legs. i could run those paces with kinvaras but legs feel like jelly after the workout

How does this compare to the Endorphin Speed? Sounds like similar use cases.
Thank you Matt. Other reviewers praise this shoe but claim it's narrow. Good to know it is not laterally biased. Kills me. Hate that lateral bias in neutral shoes.
Not shoe-related but I am digging the new opening theme music!
Marcus thank you!

With the midsole cutout would I have problems with this I usually run in a brooks GTS shoes
Seems it would pair well with the Boston.🤷♂️
David I (Matt) totally agree. A great pairing! -Matt

How you compare Takumi vs Skechers GoRun Speed Elite Hyper for intervals and 5/10k races under 19' and 35'?
As adidas is using Climbing shoe Rubber you may ask a shoemaker reapairing Five.Ten/5.10-climbing shoes. Just using a more durable Rubber than the one for extreme Grades for Climbing.
How is the ride compared to the Next%2? What would you suggest for HM?
Also good shoe for rolling Boston Marathon, I guess. The Flex is much less stiff so you run against the Flex uphill less.
TS8 sizing/fit: get the same size as the PrimeX?
Would you recommend it for flat feet orthotic runners?
No US 14 again unfortunately. I have tried the Adios Pro 2 in the biggest US 13/UK 12.5 and it feels about 0.5 less than ideal for me having now got used to some room up front in other brands. You must cut a little bit your foot 😜
Do you prefer zen 8 over razor elite?
How do you compare them to the Adios 6? baby PRO..

@@DoctorsofRunning Thanks 🙏
Is the Mizuno Wave Rebellion also a "new" 5k/10k or is it something else ?
Thanks.
The Mizuno Wave Rebellion is a lightweight plated trainer. It is not technically a racing flat/shoe.
Kinda makes me regret the purchase pf my Adios Pro 2. 27mm in the forefoot sounds enough for a HM, considering I did one on Razor 3 and another on Rebels 1…

Is there carbon on the takumi sen?
It has plastic energy rods, same kind of idea though
Drew Hunter won the US 5km champs in the Adios Pro 2 right?
Yes
Yes! I'm surprised he didn't get his hands on these. Can you run super fast in the Adios Pro 2? Yes. Like I said, I've run the last several 5ks in the Adios Pro 2 (nowhere near what Drew Hunter can do), but it will come down to personal preference.

Hi Matt, what is the weight of the Takumi Sen 8 in your size?
I totally forgot to mention that. 7.3 oz for my men's size 10
-Matt
So, is this more like the old Boston or is it the Adios 6?
They are a lower drop Adios pro 2 with a more airy mesh (the same as the adios 6) in the front, lower weight, and more durable Continental rubber. For the forefoot strikers, they are only 2.5 mm lower stack height in the front (27 vs 29.5 mm) than the Adios pro 2.
Adios 6 is way more like the old Boston. The Takumi Sen 8 is definitely more of a racing flat, but has the cushion to handle more.
-Matt
the real names could be:
Takumi sen 8 - adios pro 2
Adios pro 2- Boston 10
Adios 6 - SL 21
Boston 10 - ultraboost😁
considering its only ten pounds cheaper than the pro 2 if you had to pick one shoe which one?
Carlos that is a great question. It really depends on what I was training for. For half marathon and up I would choose the Adios Pro 2, for half marathon and down I would choose the Takumi Sen 8!
-Matt
I just did my first marathon in the RC Elite v1 which is apparently lower stack than these 😂
Haha, the marathon talk intro music
You gotta be kidding me, is today the release date of the sen 8? Man my wallets bleeding..
That's an Adidas shoe I want to by. The others I don't think it's for me. Too much drop !! But this Takumi Sen 8 seems a great pair of shoes.
Gianna! The drop is not noticeable at all. Definitely lower though.
-Matt
@@DoctorsofRunning Matt, I'm running since 5 years now in drop 4 to 6. I tried 0 drop not for me. I don't know if drop 8 can help me on some point but it can be an instructing discussion.
This is not a flat, lol. 33 mm stack is higher than most of my trainers! A flat is like the Streak LT, NB Hanzo or old Takumi Sen / Ren!
Blixten as I said, things are changing. Most of the shoes you listed don't exist anymore in their old form!
🔥🔥🔥
A little long winded dude.
I definitely agree. I try to keep these things to 10-12 minutes but this one got out of hand.
-Matt
If this shoe is wide I don’t like it already.
Rob I was surprised about that. You can lock the laces down at the midfoot, but that forefoot will be a bit roomy.
-Matt
I do 🙋♂️
