Yeah, this isn't correct even for modern 'Ulama' games. The proper stone Maya and Aztec courts had walls to prevent a ball going 'out' other than into the endzones, which was the main way to score - get the ball into the opposition's endzone. The players SHOULD be pressing forward so they can 'shoot' at the endzone. You lost points if you failed to return the ball, as in tennis. The stone rings were added later as a way to get an instant game win, but it was incredibly difficult and rarely happened. In this recreation they don't try to shoot for the endzone (there isn't one on this court, you'd just have to take a net strike as a 'goal') and then at random intervals, take turns at shooting at the rings. Neither of those aspects is how it would have been played.
