One cannot help but notice HOW MUCH MORE INTERESTING these games are than the 3 point shooting contests of today. Constant ball movement, picks, screens and play development. Also, quite fascinating how many big name players has been traded from teams on which they played for close to a decade: Haywood, Wicks, Bing, McMillan, Butch Beard ...oh my names from the past and of course, it is always a treat to see Earl the Pearl.
A different era. Just like the NHL, the powers that be virtually eliminated all physicality from the game in exchange for an end to end game devoid of any contact and -- as the physical game went away, so did a lot of the character of the game. Sure - there are no more bench clearing brawls & the wars of yesteryear -- but the fans loved that part of the game. Now -- I'm not so sure this is the type of product fans absolutely love. But one thing is for sure -- the game will never even remotely mirror what it once was.
The 1970s NBA probably was the most competitive in league history. A bunch of teams had their hey-days. And CBS set the standard with its game coverage.
I love the Brent Mussberger style to narrate. But In this case, Keith Ericsson is the perfect colour commentator , and no the old glories that they are not able to say anything with sense.
Before the season, the owner of the Buffalo Braves wanted to move the team to San Diego decided to pull a Rachel Phelps (main villain in the films "Major League" and "Major League II") by first sending Moses Malone in the dispersal draft to Houston for someone who was worthless and then sent Bob McAdoo to New York in favor of someone who was also worthless, in which caused the team to finish dead last in the rankings. This knocked down attendance to the point that he could move the team to San Diego and get rid of everyone else for better personnel.
Real team basketball!! If you watch the 23' 24' back to back Uconn men's championships. There was a lot of this unselfish style! That's why they crushed teams!
Sloppy play in this game. The late 70s wasn't a great era for either team. The Knicks especially had some really second-rate talent backing up McAdoo. Monroe wasn't second-rate, but he was in the sunset of his career here.

And real defense by everybody
Thanks Curry🙄
Phil Jackson lol
@GrowthruGod I didn't watch that deep into the game
@@144Donn they kept going to other games
Give me this any day over the awful 3-point contests of the NBA today.
The NBA on the court was way better in the 1970s than it is today.
😂
Havlicek is almost 38 here and yet he is playing hard on both ends unlike old lbj .
Celtics/Knicks, in the early to mid-70s, had one of the NBAs all-time fiercest rivalries, that's no lie!
...Thank you for uploading these classic games
Nice 👍...Thank you for uploading these classic games
Thank you for uploading these great classic games! Back when the NBA was entertaining to watch!
Real basketball... No bullshit 3-pointers!
Thanks Curry🙄

My favorite Knick of all time Earl “ The Pearl “ Monroe 🏀#15
"I got a color TV, so I can see, the Knicks play basketball 🏀 "
No one is jacking 20 footers, standing around like lbj, overdribbling, traveling , ballhogging
So I’m guessing you’re not a LeBron James fan.
Thank you
Much better officiating, even colorful and animated in their calls.

🗣️ DAMN !!!!!There's no three point line...
They played defense in the 70s😮
The Celtics blew the Knicks out in this game. This was the second of a home and home the Knicks won the game in MSG the night prior.
Just here to catch my man Earl the Pearl.
Notice CBS using the Serif Gothic font for the score graphic-- this was a year before NBC used that same font for the NBC Sports logo.

Funny how he loves the term "the redhead." I thought he always liked to use it for Walton but he had Cowens in the club too.

Bob McAdoo will always be a Buffalo Braves
Great rivalry: Braves and Celtics and yes, McAdoo is a Brave in my mind. I was a young Celtic fan in early 70's and am fond of that Braves team.
Nah he'll always be a Laker. We strategically used him as a 6th man and he was instant offense off the bench. We got him 2 rings! 🏀💍💍
Players played defense, they didn't run & gun from the 3 point line !
Wow , March 05, 1978 i was in the 4th grade

What I remember about the 1970s NBA is that they had to merge with the ABA and adopt most of its showmanship to stay in business.
Did anyone notice the 6 hall of farmers in the starting lineups and 2 as head coaches.
Hall of famers all over the court.
35:08 just a glimpse into what made Ernie D so special
42:25 also
Better view of it at 43:35 (stay for the replay)
That sounds like Rick Barry.
1978 was one of the weakest Era's in NBA history. It would take Magic and Larry to put the NBA back on track.
"It's fan-tas-tic!"
Thanks for this Aurebach shouldve kept. Tommy Heinsohn Stupid move😮
Fix was definitely on
Commentators:
Brent Musburger & Keith Erickson.
Notice you don't see any fancy cross dribbling because most likely it would be called for a violation. They left that for the globetrotters
Looks like the UNDER was the fix

No fix Bullcrap the Celtics were old slow and Lazy Auerbach didnt do his job😢
Then red Auerbach gave the word, Boston drafted Larry BIRD
Celtics lost the night before couldn't play defense 😢
They ruined the NBA with the 3 point line.
Auerbach was a shady character, he cheated to get Larry Bird, he acts like a Mafioso
Nothing he does is illegal or immoral
No 3 point line yet.
Thank you
Fix was definitely on
