Bird was horrible offensively as a rookie. Caldwell Jones game him problems. Cowens retired after this game. Don't know why, he played well.

The free throws were much worse than the airball to win. The old 3 to make 2 rule should've basically ensured the Lakers had a two point lead, but Magic really gacked this one.

The unceremonious end of an era for the Knicks. They were 40-42 during the regular season, with the bright spot being that Earl Monroe and Walt Frazier were the starting backcourt for the NBA's East All-Stars. Frazier was the All Star game MVP.

Maravich unfortunately, and rather sadly, looked lost out there. Out of his league.

DJ may have been the best player Bird ever played with, but M.L. Carr was Bird's favorite teammate, always ready to play when called on & always a huge effort! Towel waving was NOT his greatest contribution to 2 Championship trophies!

I don't think I've ever heard a louder crowd than this. That place was electric. Van Lier was amazing.

Celtics were horrible at SG, what a glaring weakness, on offense and defense. Bird had a bad shooting night, but played really well otherwise: lots of passes, rebounds, hustle and help D. Cowens carried the Celts most of the night, but dang, he got deleted hard by Dawkins on that dunk attempt off the sweet Bird pass! What a fun game to watch, I love the early 80s style of play.
