Really enjoyed your art story. I have one too. For years I drew , then I saw some acrylic pouring .watched heaps of yiu tube videos, had to retire as a medical scientist due to ill health and did more art. The local gallery support new artists and I had an exhibition in November. Like you I love it ! And I am 66 years old xx

You're very talented. Some of those simple designs would look good repeated on wallpaper or tiles for bathrooms or kitchen backdrops. I couldn't see one of the ladybug (ladybird) pictures without thinking about Lady Bugout, who's van is red and who loves ladybugs. One of the magnets would be perfect for her. How Fantastic! Thank you for being brave enough to show us and for trying so many new things. My perfectionism always hijacked me when drawing and made it take ages and I was never satisfied with the results. You are doing so well to let that go, step by step. Although I’m older than you and live in the US, my high school story is similar. Girls were directed to secretarial skills which I did excel in. However I too was interested in athletics and teaching. In worked in the business world my entire career, not clerical but management which is more suited to me, but I always longed to be a teacher. I did some training in my work and was very good at it and I taught religion for years to children. That truly should have been my vocation. I cannot draw but I get my creative outlet with fluid art and paper crafting. Love seeing your art journey. God bless.

I am where you were 3+ years ago. I am also older. I also have a math and science background, in fact I teach math and science in school, and also felt I couldn't do art when I was growing up. But I always doodled on everything, so I guess I was doing art all along. I don't know why I recently decided I wanted to try watercolor, but like you, bought some cheap pains and a small watercolor sketch book and did some urban sketching and painting by following a couple of YT videos. Like you, I discovered I was good at copying things. I recently found nature journals and am loving that. When I am out and about connecting with nature, my happy place, I take photos of plants I want to know more about, color and paint portions of those photos into my journal, and then write some info about it. I have learned so much about not only plants but art as well. I am inspired by The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady. I was fascinated and enthralled by your absolutely gorgeous line drawings of flowers and leaves and think I want to try that next. Thanks so much for sharing your art with us. It is truly inspiring and I wish you so much luck with your ideas for it going forward. I saw your latest video, too, and hope they accept the art you submitted.
Inspirational!! Unlike you, Brenna, I DID do "Art" all the way through high school (1982-1987) but I can see that you have learnt more in one year than I did in six! Apart from a few paintings for a friend who wanted to decorate her cafe (i don't even know how she knew I could paint) I have not done much since I studied "rendering" at TAFE for a drafting course in 1989-90. I too have a desire to do painting and drawing and you give me hope that I will, one day, when I get on the road. Thank you, Brenna, for having the guts to show us your progress! Sixty years ago, I surprised my Tech Drawing teacher. I passed it for the Junior Certificate (and of third year of highschool). From my experience, I surmise that you learned perspective. I suggest that you also learn lighting, that is what will add the 3D feeling. Perhaps a 30 day project on architecture as seen early and late in the day? Don't feel obliged to include signs about parking restrictions, street names, shop names (leave the Coles livery blank red etc), or even cars.
Love your art and your experimental, playful approach. It’s the only way to create! Never get too precious as you’ll loose your creative juice. Way to go Brenna! ❤

In America, there are a lot of parks that don't allow you to take things out of them. For example, we have a place called Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake, and you're not allowed to take anything off the island.
Art is a personal journey and the more you do the better one gets. Keep going for it! I love seeing the personal growth in my own artwork by looking back at where I was a year ago to now.
I can tell you an easy way to draw trees. Sit down and sketch a tree. Then put that sketch on the window and put another peice of paper over it. Then trace your original sketch and do any corrections as you trace it. You will be surprised 😊
Heart just swelled with administration and respect. I’m a ‘trained artist’ and art therapist, in some strange way that creates a block for me. Expectations I suppose. I can tell you an easy way to draw trees. Sit down and sketch a tree. Then put that sketch on the window and put another peice of paper over it. Then trace your original sketch and do any corrections as you trace it. You will be surprised 😊
