The death match itself between Moxley and Omega was good. What ruined the reputation of the match is what happened after the match. It was funny, yet embarrassing as well, because the whole match had been built up around a major explosion happening. Fans were just disappointed, and Eddie Kingston being forced to sell it like it actually happened must have been super awkward.
He's still selling it with his fear of pyro whenever he does commentary.
Let's face it, 90% selling point of a barbed wire deathmatch is its ending, when you screw that up...you cannot justify it any way.
We got "69 me, Don!" and that's enough.

Just as well they had Kenny a week or so b4 constructing it so they had a good out.
AEW have such goodwill it just made me love them more tho.

What’s sad about Finn Balor is that EVERYTHING that many fans were worried was going to happen to him when he came back to the MR, has happened to him.
NXT did an amazing job of rebuilding him as a star, and Vince and do have p***ed it all away in record time.
Goes to show how important finishes are. One of the first things anyone is taught in creative writing is that you can tell the greatest story on earth, but if your climax is crap, that's all people are going to remember.
Just like Adam list, 9 of the 10 worst matches are from wwe, the big thing here is that everyone are commenting about Mox vs Omega (good match, bad finish) I guess that says alot about who gave us better quality programming this year, just saying
It's not even bias anymore, it's fact cause AEW has been watchable while WWE felt more repetitive. I'm no AEW mark but that has been fact only because WWE made those releases and some of the top stars of NXT like Keith Lee and Karrion Kross look stupid and unnecessarily changed their gimmicks on the main roster and then kicked them out, kicking all 4 members of Hit Row within 3 weeks of their main roster run, and of course kicking Bray Wyatt out which heavily pissed me off considering how bad his run went and ruined The Fiend. WWE has no good will with the fans and they couldn't book new stars because they're too scared or care less to pull the trigger. It's like Roman Reigns is allowed to be pushed better while Big E for goodness sakes, the WWE champion felt like an afterthought cause of Owens getting involved and Lashley for some reason got involved despite losing a lot to Big E. Just like what Grayson Waller said that one time "Wins and loses don't matter".
@@years-ti7xl man, the releases were maybe the biggest WTF moment this year, I'm agree with you. I think WWE are so comfortable with their product just because they have money (a lot), they know what to do to have sales and make millions (like the saudi shows) and I guess that is not gonna change (wwe have the same midcard and top guys since 2015 i think?). This Roman era is not good, remind me that "Hogan centric" time when he was the most over promoted and over protected wrestler (maybe we're gonna see Roman beating Bruno sammartino's reign or Hogan's reign). I'm not an AEW mark either, but I really thank that new company for give us another option and a "breath of fresh air" to us, wrestling fans, they're also helping to put some atention to another promotions like NJPW that not everyone watch (for anyone who hasn't watch NJPW, you NEED to)
It's like the people who scream that anti-vaxxers don't get equal time to real doctors and scientists. "How DARE they not pretend both sides are equal!??!?!?!"
Goodwill had a lot to do with it, but Kenny, Moxley, and especially Eddie "God of Promos" Kingston were the ones who truly salvaged that Exploding Barbed-Wire Match dud.
The match itself is not salvageable, but Kingston definitely managed to shine himself up real nice the rest of the year.
Yeah and it helped that they came out on Dynamite and made fun of it then moved on.
Toru Yano vs Chase Owens wrestling for almost half an hour was One of the worst
Usually half an hour matches are awesome in NJPW, but not the case with guys like Toru Yano and Chase Owens, cause no offense, they're not Okada vs Tanahashi levels of hype. Was this in the G1 Climax? Cause sounds like it is given the G1 this year isn't that exciting compared to the last few years cause look at who's competing. Let's hope once the pandemic slows down, it would be possible to have Bryan Danielson in the G1 and maybe some other talent who aren't doing much in AEW like Moxley.

“Zombies are real.” That made me cackle so hard.
If it didn’t end the way it did, I actually really liked the visual of Alexa on the “box like structure” as Cole called it.
I still don't think Omega/Moxley being on the list is fair because even tho the "explosion" was bad, it happened POST-match. Bell to bell, the match was really good

The Fiend Orton match was my worst match because I didn’t see the zombies thing because that Fiend Orton match legitimately made me shut off Wrestlemania and I haven’t watched WWE since, nor do I plan to again.

14:40 that wasn’t the finish though. The match had already finished and Kingston came out after a beat down by the good brothers and omega. This is a case of people remembering the beat down and aftermath more than the match itself. It was a good match.

25:23 has the same issue as the AEW death match. It’s turned into a great story line but people are going to remember this match when it comes to the title run.
32:49 I’m surprised super kliq and Christian Jurassic express what got a nomination and also glad blood and guts didn’t because again like the death match it was a good match just remembered for a certain spot.

I love that they summed up the top two in the way they called, like they was upset about bray being screwed and thought maybe it should be number one then luke started with zombies are real and you realise no no that is number one. also it is a real shame bliss orton and wyatt featured in two of the worst three matches and really sums up wwe. as orton year before had one of his best years, wyatt created the best character since kane and bliss and been the standout women actor. The three got that as a thank you naturally wyatt left bliss got the hate and orton being the old gaurd went on to hold another championship.
I think on the ppv front all I need to say is that Survivor series made my father and I immediately cancel the wwe network after the show went off the air.

I feel bad about how much Alexa Bliss is on this list. It makes her look like a bad wrestler which is not the case at all! They just did her character so dirty this year.
And it’s sad considering how much time was spent trying to get her to be that character. It took a while. And they completely fumbled the storyline when she came in.
As someone who fast forwarded the women's tag team turmoil match I don't even believe it was 15 min because it seemed like I kept fast forwarding and it was still on
I just love how Pete and Adam nod every time Luke runs down the matches and competitors.
It's crazy that, but for the botched finishes, the two AEW matches on this list would have been in contention for the BEST list imo.

Omega/Moxley should NOT be on anyone's list for worst matches. That was a thing of beauty, other than the ending..which wasn't their fault, anyway. That's why it's really hard having those types of matches live.
Agreed. If someone were to do some video trickery and make the explosion massive, then you showed it to someone, they'd call it best ever

How can you vote for Charlotte/Becky at Survivor Series? It was the best match of the show. Moxley/Omega had no business being in the top 10 worst matchs either. The match was really good.
I think my biggest issue with the exploding barbwire death match is up until that next dynamite Tony just told people "what did you expect we weren't gonna actually explode the ring" when we know the explosion was suppose to be more but he acted like we had an unrealistic expectation of it

At this point of the video that just broke me.
Look, at the very least, AEW acknowledged the error with the exploding match. Still haven’t gotten a decent excuse for Balor falling off the ropes.
Dumbest ending to me by far. WWE high key watched anime comebacks and thought they could make it look cool. Setting the lights, Balor getting up, and the moment the rope breaks, the comeback is over and everything is back to how it was.
WWE ruined 3 potential Undertaker replacements.

If the Zombie lumber jack match had been done in something like Lucha Underground it would have been fine, but in WWE it just didn't make sense.
I thought the zombies match was fun. Would've made more sense in October but that doesn't negate anything for me in terms of how much fun it was
The bearded wire match was a good idea, the zombie march was always a bad idea
Do you think Vince McMahon just told Mustafa Ali, after he worked hurt and was promised a big Wrestlemania moment, "Well, Mr. Ali, if you check your contract, you'll find it says...'push subject to change.'"

The exploding barbed wire deathmatch was already over as Omega pinned Moxley before that botch explosion, so is that mean technically that is a post match angle and not part of the match?
How can anyone with a working brain include the Moxley/Omega match on this list? The dud happened AFTER the match not during it. The match itself was very good. Listing it as one of the worst match of the year because of something that happened after the bell rang is so dumb. Especially since it was neither the wrestlers nor the booking's fault.
Because it is called being unbiased by your logic Balor vs Reigns shouldn't be in there neither

Extreme Rules was it for me. It took 2 and a half hours to see the extreme part of the show, the rest of the show was unremarkable, and that finish was stupid. I'm not a Finn Balor fan, so when the red lights came on and he rose from the dead, it was quite funny and groan-inducing, but when that rope broke, my heart sank. I felt so distraught, so disappointed, so disrespected, that I was legitimately upset. And this was following Summer Slam, which was also horrible, as well as so many things for the past number of years. There's only so much abuse you can take, and that was it for me. That night I told my best friend that I can't watch WWE anymore (him also being a life-long fan and member of the wrestling journalist community). I wasn't fully with WWE at that point either. After AJ and Shinsuke pulled the double dick kick on each other at Backlash 2018, I gave up on watching Raw and Smackdown (I had only started watching Smackdown here and there because of the brand split, I stopped watching Smackdown in like 2013 until then). WWE lost my trust, and it's going to take a lot to get it back. And after seeing the results of Day 1, I don't think WWE will be changing any time soon. Looking back on the year through this video makes me fully realize how bad it's been. AEW was pretty crap at the start of 2021, and those 2 awful finishes made it even worse, but they've definitely turned it around since nothing after those 5 months or so was mentioned. AEW has been good to their fans. Not perfect, still plenty to complain about, but at least I can trust them and just enjoy wrestling.
22:18 Three if you count Aleister Black. While he certainly wasn't anywhere near as protected as Wyatt & Demon King were (up until they, you know, weren't) his Nxt run absolutely showed the potential for Black. Heck, you could even count Karrion Kross in terms of presentation, making that FOUR potential Undertaker replacements WWE ruined/got rid of in 2021.
Right now, there isn't a single wrestler with that mystique left except Demon King, & that's a character who's limited by his very nature as Balor's alter ego.
Agree the finish of the mox and omega match was awful, definitely killed the memory of the match.
Objectively speaking, I can't see an argument for anything topping Charlotte vs Nia. Maybe because it was really, unintentionally funny.
Moxley vs Omega was good, the problem is it was ruined by that botched ending. Seriously people should just enjoy the match but at least this one was a botch while the Reigns vs Balor one was also good but that rope getting destroyed was intentional and made no sense, plus there was no follow up explanation to why that happened.

I agree the exploding barbed wire match should be on the list.I mean it depends on how you look at it. Like my logic was in a hair vs hair match the shaving of said hair is part of the match so if an explosion is promised at the of a match then the explosion is part of the whole experience.But it depends on how you look at it I guess.

-Alexa Bliss vs. Shayna Baszler-Poor Shayna having to sell that stupid doll crap.
-Roman Reigns vs. Demon Finn Balor-Vince and could have killed Finn’s momentum on MR.
-Tag Team Turmoil-Boring.
-Women’s Survivor Series Match-Just terrible booking and pacing throughout.
-Bianca vs. Becky-Bianca losing in 26 seconds is dumb no matter what. And Heel Becky has not worked.
-Charlotte vs. Nia-Stupid worked shoot nonsense.
-Alexa vs. Eva Marie.
-Pizza Hut Battle Royale.
-Randy vs. Fiend-A disaster completely.
-Zombie Lumberjack Match-Stupid, forced, nonsensical, etc.
It really doesn't make any sense to name the exploding barbed wire deathmatch or blood and guts one of the worst matches of the year for the after match angles. The things that they were criticized for happened after the match was over. By that logic, Omega v Christian should be the v runaway MOTY because of the Adam Cole and Bryan Danielson arrivals during the post match beatdown in the Main Event of All Out.
Becky beating Bianca at Summer Slam is the reason I quit watching WWE, aside from the burial of The Demon King at Extreme Rules..I haven't watched any WWE PPV's since!

This was a enjoyable conversation. But most importantly these are some people's opinions. You and I don't have to agree on everything. Anyway now that's out of the way
There was alot of silly stuff when it comes to booking. I found some of it entertaining
It's just different people having different opinions like for instance I might have been the only person that loved the fiend Vs Orton feud until that finish at mania
I thought the Finn Balor Roman Reigns finish was funny made me laugh but I understand why people would get angry at it.
I feel bad about the mox Vs Kenny Omega is on the worst but it is what it is.
I don't understand how wrestle talk doesn't think that Bliss vs Randy at Fastlane is bad enough to be ranked that high at the worst matches of the year. It's bad. It had fireballs, telekinesis and other unearthly powers, all while running around the ring doing nothing. What are they talking about. Am I missing something lol
There was a lot to choose from but for me the Survivor series was a big let down. The buikd was poor and it had one of the worst matches I have seen this year.. it meant to be a top 4 show . But treated like a B show

Worst match for me was prolly Bianca vs Becky at SummerSlam. They single handedly ruined Bianca's credibility and Becky's character in a few seconds. Honestly heel Becky is like Heel stone cold but without the hilarious segments or two man power trip

I'm sorry Luke, but Charlotte Flair vs Becky Lynch at Survivor Series? The match itself was really good. It's the roll up ending that was disappointing. But that does not discredit how good the match itself was.
Luke didn’t say that one was bad, one of the 35 people who got to vote said it was. Which also includes their 100$+ patrons I believe as well as other non wrestletalk personalities
Omega vs Mox was a damn great match. The pyrotechnics were after the match. Also a great face turn for Eddie

I would have voted for Fiend vs Orton as the worst match. I was so hyped to watch Wrestlemania and was gonna stay up all night. This match happened and I just turned off the PPV. I just couldn't watch any more wrestling after that shitshow.
I'm not surprised Backlash is on this list. I stopped watching wwe completely after that. Sure the wrestling was fine to good but I just couldn't take wwe anymore after the zombies and how inconsequential everything felt

Where those guys are now doesn't change the quality of those matches. Danielson is in AEW now, doesn't mean his matches against Roman and the Mania 37 main event weren't excellent matches.

People r forgetting that the barbwire angle was part of the match and it was the stipulation that didn't work. So overall it's a bad match. But the wrestling was good. So there's a justification on why it's on the list.
I feel that it is AEW in the comment section because there same logic applies to Balor vs Reigns at Extreme Rules the match itself was good but the finish was really bad

The whole point of the match is there’s a giant explosion at the end. That’s what the entire build up was for, which didn’t happen. Good wrestling, bad barbed wire exploding death match.

It's wrong for Omega/Mox Deathmatch to be on the list and for Blood and Guts to be considered.
They should be disqualified because the bad "endings" happened post-match in both cases. It wasn't even that those two bad endings were the actual endings to the match.

adam wanted the barbwire deathmatch on the list but thought alexa bliss pinning orton wasnt that bad...lmao...maybe just didnt want it that high or is it just we are used to wwe being bad so it didnt affect the company in such a negative way as the deathmatch did?
I think the logic is about what was bad for the company. Bliss pinning Orton like that is something that would be joked about it passing but overall wouldn’t be that detrimental. Compare that to a hyped up match like the barbed wire death match, and for the ending to look like an absolute dud. It made them look bush league in comparison. I don’t think it deserves to be there but I understand from an impact point

I asked him in a superchat back in the day during him subbing in a Friday podcast episode when he was gonna start doing AEW top 10 lists and he flat out said that he isn't planning any because "that's not what drives the clicks". Absolutely bs especially since it was already more than a year in and AEW had enough material for him to make lists from
