This is a terrific 'live' performance! I Maestro Janowski does some interesting things with the score, which you can hear when compared with other performances. This video deserves to be placed among the top recommendations for this symphony on TH-cam. Thanks for posting!
Absolutely fantastic recording in this world class AMAZING performance!!! Only 34k views of this ludicrous gem??? Should be 3 million! Others are missing big time on this!
BRAVO !!!. Saludos desde España.

*Wspaniała wersja symf.nr.9, D major, powyżej (ABOVE) , jeśli zaliczymy jego `UNFINISHED` jako symf.nr.8! Brawo Maestro Janowski!* 👍👍🎶 ❤❤. *Many thanks for posting!*
Janowski navigates the lanscape of Schubert 8 with an inimitable sense for its temporal, spacial and spiritual cohesion and utmost clarity. What does a good conductor do ? Attend a performance under MJ and you will know the answer.
26:37 The best part of this mvt when this interlude returns in A major, here led a bit too fast for my liking, The cameraman, if he knew the score, would have focused on the violas which are the real stars of this part.
Hi, gabriel! According to the Deutsch catalogue, Schuberts' "die Grosse" is actually symphony No. 8. But there has been - and still is - some controversy about it. Brahms originally counted it as No. 7 and other publishers later counted it as No. 9. But this has been revised since 1978. Also, Breitkopf & Härtel, publisher of the symphony, considers it be No. 8. But surprisingly or not, the other counting is still often used, even on CDs or in concert programmes. As we all know, the world of classical music tends to adapt slowly to new ideas. 😉

Am wondering if this is labeled Sym #8 because someone doesn't count the "Unfinished (#8) as a symphony. That would make this one the eighth. Seems unlikely, but perhaps that's the explanation. No classical music fan would mistake the 9th for the 8th, and this may be a simple error by the person who posted this. Anyway--the performance is superb, the music divine.

What are you even talking about? They're not playing Schubert 8.

At 48.08 Schubert himself play cello
would've been the best recording of the symphony I've heard. if not for those merciless fits of coughing (((

I hate to be nitpicking, but, this is not Symphony No.8 by Schubert, but No.9 - " die Grosse ". This should be corrected !

@@WDRKlassik Thanks for the clarification. For a long time I have been confused. Even since I was a kid, for me the 8th was the Unfinished Symphony.
Oups! This is not the 1080p in video quality! Could be a 720p.
Who is the wonderful leader of the first violins ?
Hi, sorry for replying so late. Her name is Elena Graf, she is a German violinist and played this concert with the WDR Symphony Orchestra 😄

@@WDRKlassik Thank you for this update. I was unaware of this, as I suppose were many others.
What ? This is not the 9th ?
