- This is a nice upgrade as I have never used the Cigarette lighter for it's intended purpose. This was a nice I didn't have to cut any factory wiring, just had to enlarge the hole a bit.

Maybe put the camera in a better location next time.
Who else is here because they’re trying to figure out the wiring, and wished he would grab his camera and show everything upclose?
It's simply only two wires to unplug
Thanks for this video. Saved me time and headaches to figure it out on my own. I took it all apart only to find the fuse was indeed blown. I had been checking the fuse next to #47!
Where is the fuse ?
Thanks for the video made it easy to replace radio mount out.
Next time put the camera farther.. it's too close 🤣
Why did you replace the cigarette lighter with a USB port, when you could have added a USB plug in ? I just bought a 2002 BMW 330i that had done what you did, but my Garmin GPS that has a USB plug will not charge on the USB port that is installed. It works with a Garmin cigarette plugin in my MBZ and my Chevy truck with the cigarette plugin. I want to revert to the cigarette lighter in the BMW in hopes that the Garmin GPS will work - what do you think ? Thanks, Mark
Hello,
Currently, I'm using an ebay universal adapter to plug directly into the lighter. I also have the well known aux cable connected on the back of my radio.
The problem is, when I plug the adapter to the lighter, the aux function gets disabled (I don't have a clue why). My doubt is, if I do a USB install like yours, won't the aux function on the radio be permanently disabled?
Thank you
P.S: Following Edward's comment, I think E46's have a stock feature, that after some minutes (with the car off), it kills every power consumption provininet from some accessories connected to the car. Does the same happens with yours?
I haven't seen it power off at all. My aux sometimes disables when the car is super hot. I think it has something to do with the plug, it doesn't do it often enough for me to investigate further
@@adamanderson8631 alright. Thanks Adam
So, how much current draw is the led light for the usb ports? I assume by now you have realized that it is always lit since the cigarette lighter power is always on and not switched with the ignition key.
I haven't checked, but I have had a similar unswitched setup in my wife's suv for 3 years without a problem.
@@adamanderson8631 It probably isn't enough to matter if you drive your car often enough and don't leave things plugged in for extended periods with the ignition off.
Add a relay and have it switched
You can remove the gearknob to make life easier, put car in Neutral & press the button and then lift n pull hard straight up
