- Unfortunately for us, mud and technology don’t mix very well together. Most modern E-Bikes are well sealed from the elements but problems can still occur. Chris shows you some common faults, how they can be diagnosed, when you can fix them yourself, and when you should take your E-MTB to a shop.

Barry Corney How?? Here’s what I’m encountering: intermittent “half on” of my Intuvia Module. When this happens the display lights up except for the MPH reading and assistance levels cannot be selected, and of course the motor doesn’t engage. Removing the module from the cradle for a few seconds then locking it back down sometimes remedies the matter, or turning off & on. Cleaning the contacts seemed to help in the past but that no longer works either.

Hello. I have the Bafang 750c full color display.. I was really excited about how easy it was to see the wattage consumption....UNTIL I TOOK IT OUT IN THE SUN. These are impossible to see in direct sunlight. Never had a problem seeing the LED display 961.
Is there a trick to seeing these full color displays in the sun. Or do i have to find shade or bring my ebike inside to see the display..?
Can you guys maybe compare a real ebike vs a mtb with a aftermarket bolt on motor and battery. Would love to see all the pros and cons.

Hi. I just got a Lectric Xp about a week ago and the back tire is locking up. I loosened my brake calipers and it will move about 2 feet freely and lock up again!

Hi I’ve got a 1500w fancy pie kit the motor is built into the hub I’m using a 750c display the throttle working fine but the pedal assist is shooting off at top speed even if you got it at zero it shouldn’t even have power then not till you put it to level assist one any help would be grateful thanks
I’ve got a cube acid 2020 ebike with a gen 3 Bosch motor, and It’s developed this problem, when I’m out, after about 5 minutes of hard riding up a hill, when the motor has been giving constant assistance, I loose power and the purion display starts flashing with the battery icon empty ( as if no charge) yet it usually has over 70 percent battery. Then after about a minute, it just shuts down, then I have to wait a while before I can turn it on..... any thoughts?

I have had a 7 gear Nishiki Electric (City-bike) for two years (done 5,000 km so far). It's been running great until now, but this week it has started shutting off power completely in the middle of a ride. I can turn power back on, but it will shut off again 5-10 minutes later. The wiring is fine, and the bike is stored indoors at night, so I am wondering if anyone knows what this issue might be? Thanks!
Why you guy's don't have any infos about Yamaha/giant?
marko koklic embn has a sponsorship bias i think. Seems like they put out a combination targeted infomercial advertising and good content that isn’t a sale pitch.
For example they wont show home built e bikes aside from the one 350 bike thats so bad they tell you to not buy it. its because it would compete with their sponsors.
i think embn has very lucrative relationships with e bike manufacturers that the viewers are not aware of.
I think behavior like this is partially the reason the channel is not as popular as it should be for the production value.

Having a display issue. I was thinking of the battery inside but the display are sealed with glue. So is it a flat battery inside maybe anyway? It is a shimano part.

Hey man keep up the good videos. Can anyone point me in the right direction, I've got a mid drive motor on my bike. Everything works, I lift my back wheel up and it spins perfectly, but when I sit on the bike the motor just shudders and doesn't have the strength to drive forward. Any ideas??? Does it sound like it's the clutch?? Thanks

I’ve changed my control battery’s I have a bosch system and it worked once and it’s dead again ?
Have an error code (E 06) on my valk mountain bike dont know what to do have no warranty and no manuel . The bike battary indicator on the screen is on 100% and as soon as you use the throttle or pedal assist it will drown to 0-5% and the motor wont budge
Bosch error 500 is new motor time, replaced by bosch under warranty to the new uprated firmware motor .
So I've come across a weird problem , I've had a new cassete and chain fit to my ebco mh7 but when I get on the bike and start riding my pedals *lock up* and make it impossible to ride ? Has anyone got any ideas what it could be?

Bro , i have 48v 500w ebike , After a rainy day my ebike speed cut off on its own , throttle sometimes dont work but today i just turn on the key and after some seconds my bike speeds up on its own crushing with wall , i was lucky that this happen inside my garden and not in street trafic . I bought a 2019 kenevo 2 weeks ago ( ex demo ) with 100 miles plus I have done a further 100 miles and 14,000 feet of climbing trouble free. Suddenly the battery will not turn on or charge. Do you have any idea what could be wrong? Is there a way to reset specialized battery? Any help would be greatly appreciated 🍻
Very easy fix it will be the BMS bored.

I don't even have one in my battery packs.
I removed my BMS boards long time ago it will stop a lot of problems.

I checked my batteries heavy few months and they always balanced
The Bosch intuvia control button where you have a plus and minus to change from touring to turbo etc is stuck on turbo and no matter how many times I press the minus, it will not move out of turbo mode, anyone got any suggestions please. I have took the cover off to ensure nothing is stuck on the controls inside.
Nothing but problems with my 19 spectral. Latest one is just turning off when going down any rough trail. Going back to canyon UK but such a pain having to post it back wouldn't recommend buying a bike from them.
There are many components on a bike that could potentially fail however all major bike companies will offer a warranty period and support for this occasion. Direct to consumer bike companies are a great option when it comes to value however yes the trade off is if you need to return a product you can't just pop to the local bike shop.

Hi I have an ehub on a bike I made it sometimes will just power on with out me touching the throttle ,pretty dangerous as it a 3000watt motor and my brakes are not great, Any ideas what it could be

i have just bort a after market bolt on wheel as i had E bike from halfords and in less than too weeks had problems with power keepet cutting out so now got bolt on motor wheel and battery which as of yet haven not fitted as off yet but no mate how fits them to peoples bike and he has not have had any problem with the after market bolt on wheels
One day randomly after having my e bike be perfectly fine it randomly started going very slow it was on a full charge and I’ve had it for two weeks it always had been great until now which it barley goes 14 mph I have no clue why please help

well i have a problem, after getting up to a constant speed,and i use the brakes and the bike will slow down, but once i release the brakes the bike will speed up fast on its own!! the only way i can describe it is its like on constant cruise control any ideas?
My electric bike is going slow and then fast when in low settings and the dash board speedo is going right up and down and so on how can I fix it

note that as far as I know, these problems are extremely rare, these bikes are really well built, and if you are unluvky enough to run into one of these, your dealer is happy to fix it under warranty. Have a nice day:)

My electric bike back wheel goes for one second and stops when I press throttle but not always j have to wait a second between each press and I can’t be on the bike the pedal assist doesn’t work and the back light is always on

The portion about "Warranty Void" is commonly misunderstood to be legal in America.
Check out the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act of like 1970 or something.
Basically In America those pesky stickers warning you not to open your casing of electronics etc, they are bs. Actually in violation of Fed law. You can open whatever you want and they can't void your warranty.
Hey. My bike will run for so long and cut out. It will last longer on lower settings. But on 4 or 5 out of 5, it will cut out after about 30 seconds. Does this sound familiar?

@@Buchoass short story no. I sent it back but had to buy my battery separately and couldnt return it by the time I wanted to return the motor. I got a 750 watt motor because the battery i couldnt return was $300. The motor is a pedal assist but doesnt like you to pedal it. Positive the motor likes to do it's own work. It strains the motor to be accelerating from slower speeds in a high gear. So all of this lead me to put it on my bmx. I can still hit 25 to 30 mph. Doesnt put lots of strain on the motor because the rear gear wheel is small and so are the wheels. YeEt.

Yes probably the battery voltage drops below operating limit. Last it's capacitance.
Unfortunately none of these address none expensive ebike brands. My 1500$ bike after 1200miles just cut out

Thats what im experiencing some of the wires have been almost cut off
I got a Carrera Crossfire which had a loose connection within the wire that ran from the controller to the speed controller. It was showing error code R-00 but now I have change the wire for a complete continuous length I've had no problems,
looking at the old wire as well it seems it had a deliberate design error, putting x4 solder connections on one length of wire which did not make sense.
#askembn is it possible that the newest firmware decrease the possible range?
Im sure its down to how much power it gives you in each mode, I have turned down my Trail mode with the Shimano motor, to give me some more miles, I only use Boost when I really need it.

none of this pedal sensor/software bullshit, if i want more power, i twist the throttle more, if i want less power, i dont twist the handle as much, very simple and very resilient

Scottish company have had prototypes on the go for a while , they're at the production stage now but really need an investor to progress it further.
Mine you can turn off and ride turn on all works top end E bike !
The bearings part is incorrect as they are not covered by warranty ( kinda ), Bearings like battery's and brake pads are classed as a consumable item and so only have a limited warranty usually 3 months, so if anything happens after that they will charge you for the diagnosis service and the new bearings and the instillation.

I think not knowing that some ebikes are even cheaper than normal bikes with the same specs is a bigger problem
If you want a cheap ebike, build it yourself for $600CAD. half of the price is in the battery. If you want an ebike that has motorcycle capabilities, build it yourself for $2kCad.
You failed to mention the cut off switch that is operated from each brake lever. Whenever you apply the brakes there is a switch that disconnects the motor ( for obvious reasons ) Should you get a bit of mud or debris or even if your brakes are not adjusted correctly then the brake levers might not be returning home fully when you release them. This would obviously stop the motor from working. It is usually a very simple and easy fix !!!

glad i don't ride an Ebike...i ride a fat tire for pleasure, not for tech on trails.
Seems like lots of proprietary design issues (these aren't rocket science, working on a motorcycle doesn't void your warranty, this is just stupid). I'm also not going with mid-drive after seeing this... Hub already seamed way better, way fewer parts, and it should use regular through axle bearings. Also seems like manufacturers don't know how to make a water-proof seal (its not that hard, I can't believe they fail so badly that its an actual issue!)
Sounds like a DIY bike would be 10x more reliable (fewer parts to wear, a battery that doesn't have holes in it for water, all user serviceable parts, cheap replacement parts with unlimited customization even down to motor winding and ESC programmable firmware if you want). I think my test bike will be a fat-bike with 2x 1200w hub motors (for all wheel drive mud and off-road rippage!). Then I'll see if I can make some improvements for a really over-the top fast road bike (I'll aero everything, disk wheels, frame fairings etc. I'm an aerospace engineer, I'll see how fast I can push it in a "conventional" style bicycle frame for some fun). From looking at Texas laws, it looks like 20 mph is the max without pedaling (I used to average that on gravel, pedal power only), but they don't specify any power limit or max speed if you are pedaling... Hmmm, exploitation, engage!

It's going to be fun no doubt, interested to see how a 2 wheel drive bike would handle, could be smooth, could be a handful. It would be cool if you can adjust output for each motor 30/70, 40/60 or 50/50 power distribution, to see how it affects handling
