I heard someone say once, and I positively agree, that the notes he almost hits are far more beautiful than they would be if he actually hit them.

It's been said that Stevie Ray Vaughn played the guitar like his life depended on it. I believe Joe Cocker sang much in the same way. What a legend.

There's a reason this song has endured for decades, and why no one else but Joe Cocker can give it the beauty and gravitas it deserves. It's the same reason only Leonard Cohen can truly sing "Hallelujah."

When you find an artist that instantly removes you from your surroundings, that's the rabbit hole you want to jump down into. Joe cocker made a living from doing covers...... like nobody else could! Some must-listen suggestions: She Came In Thru The Bathroom Window, The Jealous Kind, Catfish (About the pitching great Catfish Hunter), A Song For You (My all time favorite of his), Look What you’ve Done, and Worrier. JC passed away in Dec of 2014 at 70 years of age from lung cancer….. RIP and TY for the music you left us. TY for reacting.

Beth, thank you for doing this as this song he did,,, could only be done by him. It's not that there are so many words, but the voice with the heartfelt feelings you can see in Joe's face, that says it all.

Denny Wilson was a real musician. I hear his heart when I hear his song. If he had only got royalties from it, history could have been kinder to him. This adds even more emotion to a performance that is perfectly married with the original intention.

I saw Cocker live at a small venue in Baltimore almost 20 years ago. Live, his voice is like nothing I've ever heard. It's very difficult to describe but you could literally feel his voice in the air around you. Recordings completely fail at capturing the experience of hearing his voice live. You're right about his heart. He put 100% into every song. His encore was an a capella version of this song and it was just absolutely amazing.

Joe had a one of a kind voice. I watch this and A Little Help From My Friends. And I always get tears. As a musician myself. His brilliant style . The emotions he put into everything. Is what got him so many fans.
And he wasn't the I don't talk to fans type.
Joe would try to talk to everyone. Gentleman So so talented. So very much missed. Hard to believe it will be 7yrs this year since Joe left our world for the big stage in the sky.
    RIP Joe Cocker. 1941-2014.

On the studio version, he ends on a very delicate, almost whispered high G#, and it's the most stunning part part of the performance. He sustains the vowel of the word "me" and morphs it into an "ah" sound. Breathtaking.

I've just recently started watching "reaction" videos, and always enjoy your technical breakdowns of each artist's performance. You nailed Joe Cocker's gift of performing with pure emotion. One of the hardest things for people to do is bare their emotion, their feelings, and their soul to others. (That's why they call it soul.) I went back and watched this a second time watching your face as Joe sang. At the end you said you didn't say much, but your expressions said plenty. Joe succeeded in instilling in you the feelings he was sharing in the song. I think you were spot on in that Joe's gift may not be technical skills (Although he has plenty.) but more in his ability to share that pure emotion that comes from the soul. One of your best reactions Beth. Peace. ✌

This video of yours, Beth, perhaps is the best I've ever seen in your channel, for a not so simple reason: Joe Cocker did put all emotions possible while he was singing, and you did the same, "feeling" the desperation he felt in his interpretation! I think the title of the song fits in you just like a glove...

Joe Cocker has one of the most amazing voices in history - instantly recognizable, powerful, emotional. You're seeing him at the tail end of his life when his voice was shattered by age, hard use, and declining health, but still awesome. He died of lung/throat cancer in 1914 at 70 years old after having smoked 2 packs of cigarettes a day for decades. If you want to see him in his prime, check out Woodstock or any of his music from the 1970s. Just terrific.

Joe was definately unique. The way I always thought about describing what he gave us is, Joe Cocker didn't sing to us with his voice, but with his heart and soul. Our world is better becsuse of him.

Beth I saw Joe live for the first time in the 80's, and even then it was very emotional when he played that song live.

I love watching/listening to your reactions..I always learn something new. Some ppl hear music, some listen to music.. and then there are the ones who understand music.. ...its like having a 'How to appreciate music for dummies' lesson.. Much appreciated.

I used to play in a cover band. We did this song and you can leave your hat on. Joe Cocker was the only singer that I could sing like.
