    As a Histotech who just retired after 46 years in the Pathology dept, Pathology is where it is at! There is nothing better than producing quality slides which have a profound impact on patient care. Keep up the good work and keep spreading the good words about the pathology profession.

    Being a caregiver for my partner who recently got a bone marrow transplant for leukemia, and then journeying with him at every monthly hospital admission, interacting with dieticians, and selecting food from the hospital menu, I agree that the western medical model when it comes to lifestyle interventions can be very depressing. That said, we are so very thankful for the many dedicated and caring healthcare staff, including the pathologists who found his leukemia, examined for any detection of mutations and leukemia cells from each biopsy, and when they found he was in a leukemia-free state after doing chemo, which put him in a good spot for the transplant-a second life! Your video is a reminder that I’d like to thank our pathology team. It’s neat to get a glimpse behind the scenes via your vlogs!

    Im in a similar place as you were a few years ago (OMS3): i like the integrative/functional medicine side of health and see how endocrinology+functional medicine could target the root causes (unlike majority of the western medicine model). But also being an analytical introvert who just wants to quietly blend in with nature, I also think pathology could fit as well (longevity wise). Glad i stumbled on your account! Got a lot to think about.

    My husband is a radiologist and I was noticing some similarities in the specialties from your previous videos. ☺ He's mentioned getting too much or too little imaging for what he's being asked to look for; it seems like that's also not a problem in pathology? It seems like what gets sent to you is pretty defined.

    • @madisontcarter
      @madisontcarter  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oooh so interesting!! Maybe an analogous situation for a pathologist is when a surgeon sends us a teeeeny tiny tissue sample and expects us to make a diagnosis with a speck of specimen. Or when they send us a specimen that is tough to read because it’s been all fried up by their bovie.

    Hi! I'm a med student, and I can totally relate to what you're saying. I'm really interested in gut health and fascinated by how dietary changes can improve it. However, I'm not too fond of relying on medications and dealing with their side effects. That's why I’ve been reconsidering whether family medicine or gastroenterology is the right path for me.
    Additionally, I’m not sure if I’d enjoy working with patients who are in distress-it just doesn’t feel like the best fit for me. I’ve also thought about specializing in ophthalmology, particularly focusing on surgeries, though I might change my mind again, hahahaha.
    Have you ever considered dermatology? If so, what made you choose pathology instead?
    By the way, I love your channel-keep thriving!

      Hi! Lots of good thoughts! I didn’t have the grades or test scores to be a competitive derm applicant and I didn’t want to do the number of research projects that would be required of me to be a competitive applicant 🤣

    Currently in 3rd year and I’m leaning towards pathology.
    Idk if you’ve addressed this before but were you interested in radiology? What’s your take on Path vs rads?
    Oh and here before you become a big time medfluencer or whatever it’s called lol. You’re gonna be big if you keep making videos imo

      I would need some more time to think about this before I can offer a more thoughtful answer but just surface level, I didn’t want to be in a dark room all day long 😅
      So kind of you, thank you!! I don’t really want to be a medfluencer but I think this info is helpful for people, so I’ll sprinkle some med videos in here and there :)

    Thanks for this video! I came in wanting pathology, but now I’m concerned about the breadth of knowledge it requires-it seems like a lot more than other specialties. It feels overwhelming, especially since pathology is so different from what we typically learn in medical school. How much do you need to study each day to stay on top of things? Does it feel like a significantly heavier workload compared to other fields? You mentioned that histology was difficult for you at first, so what gave you the confidence to pursue pathology and feel like you’d succeed/eventually be good at it?

    • @madisontcarter
      @madisontcarter  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It does require a lot of knowledge! But that’s why residency is four years long and most people do another year or two on top during fellowship. You can do it! Sometimes i feel frustrated that I don’t know more, but I’m trying to cultivate a growth mindset :)
