    I wish we'd gotten a Rise of the Triad port. It's right in the sweet spot of what the Jaguar could do at its upper limits without the framerate suffering, or being displayed in a border.

      Oh my god you have no idea how much the system could’ve pushed it.
      I’d also like a game like Return Fire, a sort of update on *Combat* for the 2600 for PvP battles.

    Awesome! Thanks for shining the spotlight on all things Jaguar and even better the Jag homebrew scene. Thanks for the link to the Jag ST ports on AA. I'm still very much a noob when it comes to the Jaguar having only briefly played Cybermorph. So far, I've been more collector than player (unfortunately).
    I guess I'm in a very small minority LOL for being a Jaguar owner to begin. I also have the GameDrive and then buy physical releases like Last Strike. Man, I can accept the $70 price tag but some are $100+. I bit the bullet and got Towers II Enhanced but it's unfortunate how expensive physical releases have gotten (to no one's fault).

    Ive come to the conclusion that there's no such thing as a crappy console because they failed commercially in its lifecycle and giving up before it even began (Colecovision).
    Looking back, developers were put under alot of pressure of deadlines and slogan pandering they're not given time to see how to utilize a system to its potential the homebrewers are discovering today, which backs up my statement.
    Im gonna throw it out there if you put the Jaguar hardware in front of someone like Yuzo Koshiro, programmers from Treasure, or Prime era Konami I bet you they'd come out with a banger

      @@scottboehmer1975 it's a little grey, but since the Jaguar died in 1996 technically and it released several years later, it's mostly not listed as a full retail release but it's also done by rebellion. So "homebrew" is probably the wrong word

      Skyhammer isn't a homebrew. It was a commercial title developed during the Jag's lifetime but which went unreleased until Songbird acquired the rights to publish it. I think that distinction needs to be made in regards to post-Atari releases for the Jag, as a few other games were in a similar situation.

    It would be nicer if they ported old Amiga games. At least those had acceptable framerates, great music and more color. The Amiga port of Golden Axe is one of the best of the era, along with the RTypes.
    Even better if they could recode the graphics routines and improve the sprites and backgrounds

      But the Jaguar can beat the Amiga only with colors. For example in Amiga for half bright shadows you just activate one additional bitplane in the scanlines with a shadow. Can use the copper for this. Then assign the plane to the halfbright but, which shifts all RGB bit right by one.
      Jaguar on the other hand needs to load the pixel data, decrement the intensity, and write back. So 3 steps, 2 full bandwidth memory accesses.

      Is there a 3D game not full color? Besides that, I had Skyhammer, and while it is tenically impressive 3D, its a rather unpolished and clunky experience. It crashes often and the mission mode is really tedious and by the numbers. Battle mode is much better,, but I prefer a smooth 2D shmup any day over that.

    • @johneygd
      @johneygd 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yea there were colorful 3D games for the jaguar but they simply lacked textures on them, they looked more like early 3D games on 16bit systems.
      It was fair to expect waaaay more from the atari jaguar because of being 64bits.
      It’s only that because of limited cartride space and complexity with programming for that system, finding great looking 3D games for the jaguar becomes hard🤣
