In light of all the speculation surrounding what happened at Dyatlov Pass, the only survivor, Yuri Yudin, was often asked what he thought happened to his companions. He maintained until his death in 2013 that the Soviet military had to be involved in the deaths. Yudin believed his friends stumbled across a military exercise and that the Soviet government bore responsibility for the loss of his companions. He said that all his companions were expert hikers and skiers and were well equipped to handle natural phenomena like avalanches or snowstorms. Yudin noted that after searchers found the campsite, the military was more concerned with what the skiers were doing in the area, not what had happened to them. After searchers found the hikers, Yudin was asked to identify the items collected at the campsite. Yudin said some items did not belong to his fellow hikers, including glasses, a pair of skis, fragments of a ski, and a piece of cloth he identified as part of a soldier's coat. In a journal that Yudin kept all his research of the event in, which came to light after his death, Yudin referred to "soldiers' tape" and wrote he was confident it was among the items he was asked to identify. Yudin claims in his journal that he tried to bring this to the colonel's attention who was with him at the time, but he ignored it. Yudin speculated that before the official search found the hikers' campsite, the military had already been there and pointed to these items as proof. Yudin also posed the rhetorical question: if something as mundane as an avalanche caused the death of his friends, why did the government close the case so quickly and mark it as classified? Yudin also noted in his journal that there was one factor at the site of his friends' deaths that none of the "normal" suggestions could explain: the mild radioactivity of the clothes and bodies of the deceased hikers.
Maybe they resorted to torture to find out what they were doing there and ended up carrying dangerous experiments out on them and when they died, they left them out there in the snow which could explain all the strange things about the bodies. Does that sound too retarded
@@enjuci2754 can't say it sounds retarded. But what "strange" things are you referring to? Its normal to have radiation on your clothes when you work in a nuclear facility. It's normal to suffer internal injuries when falling down a ravine. Its normal for scavenging animals to consume softer tissues first. Lots of things can seem strange taken out of context. But when looking at the big picture it may be perfectly normal.

The clothes they wear are the same. While it's true wealthy or obsessed people may have different clothes for different things sans uniforms, this is not the norm especially in a nation where the general population has less than some. Another key factor you missed is only two of the hikers has radiation on their clothes, the two who worked in a nuclear facility. I recommend doing some research before you open your mouth and insert your foot, again.

Hyperthermia can have an amazing effects on the mind, just like LSD. Somehow it makes the abnormal, normal and slipping into death or doing something that will cause death is not that crazy. Especially if... at the time you think it will make you safe.

Rustem and Gieorgij were working in a power plan during cleaning nuclear waste, hence the radiation. The 50s were unfortunate for ZSSR, and there was not much to invest to buy modern work protection. Errors in power plants were happening, much before Prypeć. As long as they weren't absolutely critical, people were sent to clean up wearing mockery of a safe suit. The pubic was being told that that is not a huge danger and the cases were covered up. Really, I hate that the case is so sensationalized that nobody knows the name of the victims. And I don't blame you for that. It's this kind of videos that presents the case in order to make it more mysterious. That's such a waste of potential, because there's so much to talk about and that topic is an amazing occasion to talk about complicated history and sociological mechanisms. Media coverage has had a huge impact on social perception of said tragedy, and I believe that the story and the victims deserve more. I could go on for hours, I have been really fascinated by this case since ages, and I'm getting frustrated that so many of real questions and hypothesis are not talked about because creators, who decide to talk about this even, are using cheap sensation as an artistic move. When it comes to this tragedy it's easy to tell, which creator was making a real research. An avalanche would’ve covered the bodies so they wouldn’t be able to find them as animals, and so the animal footprints wouldn’t have been hidden by the avalanche, nor does it explain theirs not being hidden but no animal ones, and there’s then no explanation for running from no footprints and the weird clothing. That could be hyperthermia delusion but there would be tracks if the animals found the bodies later.
It's actually called 'Dead Mountain', it's a common mistake made when talking about this case. It's called that because there's a shortage of life there. Barely any trees, plant life, etc.
I can remember reading somewhere that there was a broken compass found in the tent. The luminous paint used in compasses up until the 1960’s was based on radium which is highly radioactive and could explain why there was radiation found on the bodies.
Ah yes, the avalanch that crushed them while they were in their tents, and then the avalanch got up and walked away, leaving no trace of ever having been there, and also fixed up the tents afterwards.
it wasnt an avalanche moron. insane gusts of frozen winds, they knew it was coming, they heard it in the distance and did the only thing they could do, which was run away as fast as possible, typically only a couple hundred meters is fine, and come back once it passed. sadly that didnt go well for them.

Tbf, it is the most believable theory. Especially if you remember wolverines exist in that area and they are basically big scary skunks. Imagine if a wolverine starts rummaging in your tent's entrance, then gets stuck in the tarp, gets scared, sprays extremely smelly stuff all over the place... I would also cut a hole in my tent and try to get away until I can breathe again.

Yeah definitely. Been wondering how in the world is it even possible to produce such high quality videos with tons of effects and transitions that look great this often. There were 2 moments in my life, when I could've died, even though I took it too easy, but Dyatlov pass mystery fucks with my soul, really terrifies Me, I've been working as mountain guide for many years already and imagining something like this could happen to Me and my group is lot to think about.

Glad somebody else has watched his video, I found it be be a very well put together breakdown on what most probably happened. To be honest we will probably never be 100% sure bit his breakdown of it is imho the nearest we have to the truth. Still the "Incident" has made for a lot of entertaining videos on it, Even Anton from WhattheMath did a video on it. It's just sad that so many people died.

My dad born in 1944, worked in a chemistry lab. When experimenting with mercury, any spills would be scooped up by hand and put back in the jar. No gloves. indeed different times.

However, conspiracy theories and people misreporting the facts the throughout the decades has caused people to believe the more crazier theories. For example: the woman who had the missing eyes and tongue was found face down in a ravine after months of laying under a mound of snow. The person who performed the autopsy wrote that was due to soft tissue decomposition. Yet, people still believe it was due to a yeti attack, aliens, or by another person.
That dude with the fake accent going after anyone tha dares to call it an alien abduction case and to give them a shot of CIA like agenda berating by calling anyone conspiracy theorists. This is almost an identical situation with the Todd Sees incident when he was hunting in the woods of rural Pennsylvania around 2002.

This story always fascinated me and I've researched it quite a bit. The slab avalanche theory is still the strongest, in my opinion. I could see the group heading down the mountain to avoid further injury and then realizing they'll need to survive the night without a tent. One group stays put to start a fire, another group goes to find food, water, or possibly a better campsite, the last group head back to the tent to try to salvage more supplies. Two of those groups freeze to death in the open wind, the other falls down a ravine while trying to reach a water source (or maybe it just caught them off-guard in the dark?). The military interference seems like they were trying to cover their asses in case their parachute mine testing _did_ contribute to the tragedy (it's totally possible they were just as confused about this case as we all are), but backed off over time. I feel like this covers all the oddities I've heard. Lemmino did a good job explaining the radiation, and the broken branches above the campfire spot just sounds like they were desperately trying to find dry wood. BUT the Yuri journals are intriguing, and with every fresh account of this story, I seem to find new unexplained details that make it all the more fascinating. I don't think I'll ever not be interested in this case until we can time travel and actually witness what happened.

There's another case that happened in the Russian wilderness that's very similar to Dyatlov pass. But there was a survivor!! She said everyone literally went insane in front of her eyes, started tearing their clothes off, started smashing their own faces and bodies onto rocks. If she had died too, no one would know what happened to all the people she was with (who _all_ died). They still can't explain what made them go crazy all at once though!

I’ve always wondered how exactly there were prints after more than a week in a place that snowed pretty much daily or constantly so how exactly did they find all this great evidence like prints and tents and etc
I think it was actually solved thanks to Frozen’s animation for snow. A meteorologist (specifically a man who specialized in snow and avalanches) noticed how realistic the animation was, and (with permission and help from the animators) took their design and applied it to the conditions seen in Dylatov’s Pass. Ask A Mortician has a video that explains it MUCH better than I could.
An avalanche would have flattened their tent, and their footprints would have been obviously on avalanche debris or completely obliterated if made in front of it while escaping. The radioactive alien Yeti theory does not have those awkward conundrums.
@@johnmead8437Didn’t they cut their way out of the tent? That gives them the ability to make the tracks that were found. Also, I personally think the radioactivity was played up. Until I know the type of radiation, I pretty much dismiss that evidence. Ever hear of the Radium Girls? Or how there used to be nuclear material in Quaker Oats (I believe I was taught that, but someone please correct me if I’m wrong)? Radiation wasn’t yet considered the public health risk we know it is today. I could also be convinced of a Russian Military cover up, given the KGB’s shadiness, but I’d need more proof. For now, I’m pretty satisfied with the avalanche conclusion.

It was an avalanche according to Caitlin Dougherty(ask a mortician). She explains how scientists hooked up with the animators from 'Frozen' movie' and used their algorithm to recreate the snow conditions.

No it wasn't one of them had a job that worked with radioactive materials. This has all come out. And every thing has been explained. The radio active theory was just from conspiracy theorist. It's always been known where it came from the guys work environment. This story been solved forever. But youtubers like this guy just keep stealing others content without research. @@First.Last.99 Yeah, kind of. Really sucks that he didn't mentioned the expensive cameras found in the tent that would have been unaffordable for students. Or that Zolotaryov was in affect 10 years older than the rest of them. Dyatlov let him into the group which wasn't to the liking of the others. There is really something strange about him as he seems to have nothing in common with the rest of them besides randomly joining their trip. He even spoke to his students (he was a sport teacher) about doing something significant on that journey. But the fact that the KGB retained two of the corpses (Zolotaryov included) for several weeks before hastily burying them is probably still my favorite.
Given the track record of the Soviets, I doubt anyone will ever get a clear picture. They were experienced and would have really considered their surroundings before setting up camp. Just weird, probably a test that carried out with an unintended fallout. It's very sad but probably what happened. Must have been one tidy avalanche though. Nice enough to pick up after itself.

There are 2 kinds of people I commonly see when it comes to Dyatlov pass: Ones who realized this has already been solved, and those who ignore it because they want to believe in something supernatural.
Also, in the case of a slab avalanche, it wouldnt be unheard of for the potential force of the ice & snow on the human body (especially if hit from behind like they likely would likely have been if fleeing) to be great enough to literally pop the eyeballs from the sockets & cause the tongues to be bitten off. This commonly happens in more severe car crashes.

Hi Thoughty2, thanks for this video! I was for years fascinated by this case, and the last discovery seems to bring us the classic Occam's Razor - the simplest solution is the most probable one... I love how this new theory fills perfectly all the gaps and leaves nothing to guess...
Except making classified a simple avalanche is a bad explanation. The explanation needs to explain all the facts. And the suspicious actions of the government and military are unexplained. So running and hiding an Occams Razor is usually a trick spies use to quiet the discussion. Despite that many facts remain unexplained. Testing of weapons on the other hand explains all the facts but noone will fund scientists to prove that theory.

Dead Mountain by Donnie Eichar is a great book on the matter. He goes to Russia, talks to surviving family members, works with scientists to come to a fairly reasonable conclusion.

The way this story has been told certainly makes it sound more mysterious. I also think that some of the details got lost in translation. Take for instance the fact that two of the bodies had higher than normal levels of radiation. It sounds odd until you find out that those two people actually worked at a nuclear power station. The ones that had their eyes and tongues missing were obviously from animals after they died. The whole ‘why did they run from their tent from the inside in their night clothes would be because of a fire. Granted, I would LOVE nothing more than for it to be because of Aliens or Cthulhu or something UNKNOWN, but if there is one thing I have learned from watching videos like this is that it’s never ever aliens, ancient or otherwise.
I mean this case seems open and shut to me. The homemade stove in the tent began to re light and smoke filled the tent, believing that the tent was on fire, they scrambled out of the tent cutting it open, and walked down the slope because there was no longer any danger (the tracks indicated that they were not running), they weren’t properly dressed and the better dressed ones stayed by a fire, while the others tried to get back to the tent and they suffered from frostbite. The cylindrical object was a tree that she fell down and hit, the ones in the ravine went into the forest to try to get to the tent. Wearing the other people’s clothes as they died to warm up. This seems simple
A few things: Most of my knowledge of this incident comes from the Morbid podcast, which contains a few details this vid didn't. The second woman who was found, was found in a dug out snow enclosure. And her tongue was missing, cut cleanly, and there was coagulated blood in her stomach. Meaning the tongue was cut while she was alive. Potentially attacked by her own group perhaps, but it casts a little shadow on the idea of animals taking the soft tissues. Also, in a journal the group was keeping (or at least one of them, I'm a little foggy and no expert on this case) they wrote simply "We know now that the snowmen exist." Or something to that effect. What they meant, no one knows. Now as for my own mind, if there were no conventional signs of an avalanche, there was no avalanche, right? Surely even in '59 during the time America thought people could legally and ethically be judged by the color of their skin and their gender, people were smart enough to figure out if an avalanche had actually happened? Or is it not that simple? I have no knowledge of avalanches at all. Adrenaline could definitely push people to extremes even with severe injuries, but the dude with chest fractures, they said his insides were as if he'd been hit by a truck. An avalanche can do that, but can a man get up and walk, suffer potentially hurricane force winds, hypothermia, and fall down a ravine before succumbing to those injuries? Granted this is Russia where Rasputin was stubborn as shit to die so, impossible? I'll say I don't know because again, not an expert on that. And this is where I wish I could remember the Morbid podcast more clearly because we learn that someone of some kind of authority, some kind of smart dude, ultimately said in his opinion the most likely answer was a military weapons test. Could definitely explain the madness. The mixed up clothes could easily be a case of some getting to the last stage of hypothermia and undressing, while others are like "Well shit son I'm cold af I'll take that if you're just gonna throw it off." But there definitely was some kind of widespread panic. One of the dudes found by the fire wasn't only burned by that fire, his hands were also tore up from trying to climb the tree. Apparently in a panic. Hypothermia can explain losing your mind though so the only way we'll ever truly know, is to know why they left the tent in the first place. If indeed we can trust the people who investigated to not be covering stuff up, and they did just calmly walk out of their tent, and there were no other footprints around, idk what would cause experienced hikers to do that. Some of them without clothes or shoes. As if they decided to leave right away, but walking calmly? That's like, psychological thriller levels of weird.
@@godwarrior3403 comment on her autopsy report: Occasionally you hear claims that the tongue was ripped, or eaten, or whatnot. The medical records simply that "the tongue is missing". Vozrojdenniy doesn't give any details on the extent, nature of the damage and doesn't state the condition of the remaining tissues.
Seriously, I have studied this topic to death. I know this much: leaving the safety and comfort of the tent underclothed in darkness and bitter cold was a death sentence.

In light of all the speculation surrounding what happened at Dyatlov Pass, the only survivor, Yuri Yudin, was often asked what he thought happened to his companions. He maintained until his death in 2013 that the Soviet military had to be involved in the deaths. Yudin believed his friends stumbled across a military exercise and that the Soviet government bore responsibility for the loss of his companions. He said that all his companions were expert hikers and skiers and were well equipped to handle natural phenomena like avalanches or snowstorms.
Yudin noted that after searchers found the campsite, the military was more concerned with what the skiers were doing in the area, not what had happened to them.
After searchers found the hikers, Yudin was asked to identify the items collected at the campsite. Yudin said some items did not belong to his fellow hikers, including glasses, a pair of skis, fragments of a ski, and a piece of cloth he identified as part of a soldier's coat. In a journal that Yudin kept all his research of the event in, which came to light after his death, Yudin referred to "soldiers' tape" and wrote he was confident it was among the items he was asked to identify. Yudin claims in his journal that he tried to bring this to the colonel's attention who was with him at the time, but he ignored it. Yudin speculated that before the official search found the hikers' campsite, the military had already been there and pointed to these items as proof.
Yudin also posed the rhetorical question: if something as mundane as an avalanche caused the death of his friends, why did the government close the case so quickly and mark it as classified?
Yudin also noted in his journal that there was one factor at the site of his friends' deaths that none of the "normal" suggestions could explain: the mild radioactivity of the clothes and bodies of the deceased hikers.
Of course a russian would suspect the military. They would know what the military is capable of.
Maybe they resorted to torture to find out what they were doing there and ended up carrying dangerous experiments out on them and when they died, they left them out there in the snow which could explain all the strange things about the bodies.

It's normal to suffer internal injuries when falling down a ravine.
Its normal for scavenging animals to consume softer tissues first.
Lots of things can seem strange taken out of context. But when looking at the big picture it may be perfectly normal.

The clothes they wear are the same. While it's true wealthy or obsessed people may have different clothes for different things sans uniforms, this is not the norm especially in a nation where the general population has less than some.
Another key factor you missed is only two of the hikers has radiation on their clothes, the two who worked in a nuclear facility.
I recommend doing some research before you open your mouth and insert your foot, again.
The dyatlov pass incident is one of the most fascinating, crazy a mysterious cases I have ever heard. Watched any and all material I see about it, and it's still has never ceased to absolutely fascinate me

Rustem and Gieorgij were working in a power plan during cleaning nuclear waste, hence the radiation. The 50s were unfortunate for ZSSR, and there was not much to invest to buy modern work protection. Errors in power plants were happening, much before Prypeć. As long as they weren't absolutely critical, people were sent to clean up wearing mockery of a safe suit. The pubic was being told that that is not a huge danger and the cases were covered up. Really, I hate that the case is so sensationalized that nobody knows the name of the victims. And I don't blame you for that. It's this kind of videos that presents the case in order to make it more mysterious. That's such a waste of potential, because there's so much to talk about and that topic is an amazing occasion to talk about complicated history and sociological mechanisms. Media coverage has had a huge impact on social perception of said tragedy, and I believe that the story and the victims deserve more. I could go on for hours, I have been really fascinated by this case since ages, and I'm getting frustrated that so many of real questions and hypothesis are not talked about because creators, who decide to talk about this even, are using cheap sensation as an artistic move. When it comes to this tragedy it's easy to tell, which creator was making a real research. Like, I know nobody is writing a PhD on TH-camTH-cam, but a article from a gossip paper without any footnote is not a source. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk, I'm sorry. An avalanche would’ve covered the bodies so they wouldn’t be able to find them as animals, and so the animal footprints wouldn’t have been hidden by the avalanche, nor does it explain theirs not being hidden but no animal ones, and there’s then no explanation for running from no footprints and the weird clothing. That could be hyperthermia delusion but there would be tracks if the animals found the bodies later.

I can remember reading somewhere that there was a broken compass found in the tent. The luminous paint used in compasses up until the 1960’s was based on radium which is highly radioactive and could explain why there was radiation found on the bodies.

it wasnt an avalanche moron. insane gusts of frozen winds, they knew it was coming, they heard it in the distance and did the only thing they could do, which was run away as fast as possible, typically only a couple hundred meters is fine, and come back once it passed. sadly that didnt go well for them.

My dad born in 1944, worked in a chemistry lab. When experimenting with mercury, any spills would be scooped up by hand and put back in the jar. No gloves. indeed different times.

This story always fascinated me and I've researched it quite a bit. The slab avalanche theory is still the strongest, in my opinion. I could see the group heading down the mountain to avoid further injury and then realizing they'll need to survive the night without a tent. One group stays put to start a fire, another group goes to find food, water, or possibly a better campsite, the last group head back to the tent to try to salvage more supplies. Two of those groups freeze to death in the open wind, the other falls down a ravine while trying to reach a water source (or maybe it just caught them off-guard in the dark?). The military interference seems like they were trying to cover their asses in case their parachute mine testing _did_ contribute to the tragedy (it's totally possible they were just as confused about this case as we all are), but backed off over time.
I feel like this covers all the oddities I've heard. Lemmino did a good job explaining the radiation, and the broken branches above the campfire spot just sounds like they were desperately trying to find dry wood. BUT the Yuri journals are intriguing, and with every fresh account of this story, I seem to find new unexplained details that make it all the more fascinating. I don't think I'll ever not be interested in this case until we can time travel and actually witness what happened.

There's another case that happened in the Russian wilderness that's very similar to Dyatlov pass. But there was a survivor!! She said everyone literally went insane in front of her eyes, started tearing their clothes off, started smashing their own faces and bodies onto rocks. If she had died too, no one would know what happened to all the people she was with (who _all_ died). They still can't explain what made them go crazy all at once though!

I think it was actually solved thanks to Frozen’s animation for snow. A meteorologist (specifically a man who specialized in snow and avalanches) noticed how realistic the animation was, and (with permission and help from the animators) took their design and applied it to the conditions seen in Dylatov’s Pass.
Ask A Mortician has a video that explains it MUCH better than I could.
An avalanche would have flattened their tent, and their footprints would have been obviously on avalanche debris or completely obliterated if made in front of it while escaping.
The radioactive alien Yeti theory does not have those awkward conundrums.

Until I know the type of radiation, I pretty much dismiss that evidence. Ever hear of the Radium Girls? It was an avalanche according to Caitlin Dougherty(ask a mortician). She explains how scientists hooked up with the animators from 'Frozen' movie' and used their algorithm to recreate the snow conditions.

No it wasn't one of them had a job that worked with radioactive materials. This has all come out. And every thing has been explained. The radio active theory was just from conspiracy theorist. It's always been known where it came from the guys work environment. This story been solved forever. But youtubers like this guy just keep stealing others content without research. @@First.Last.99 Yeah, kind of. Really sucks that he didn't mentioned the expensive cameras found in the tent that would have been unaffordable for students. Or that Zolotaryov was in affect 10 years older than the rest of them. Dyatlov let him into the group which wasn't to the liking of the others. There is really something strange about him as he seems to have nothing in common with the rest of them besides randomly joining their trip. He even spoke to his students (he was a sport teacher) about doing something significant on that journey. But the fact that the KGB retained two of the corpses (Zolotaryov included) for several weeks before hastily burying them is probably still my favorite.

Given the track record of the Soviets, I doubt anyone will ever get a clear picture. They were experienced and would have really considered their surroundings before setting up camp. Just weird, probably a test that carried out with an unintended fallout. It's very sad but probably what happened. Must have been one tidy avalanche though. Nice enough to pick up after itself.

They have solved it. It was a type of avalanche known as a slab avalanche. Anton Petrov did a video on it not very long ago.

@@YellowPenetrator Those parts are very commonly eaten by carrion/insects and animals, most any mucous membrane that is soft and easy to get at.
Also, in the case of a slab avalanche, it wouldnt be unheard of for the potential force of the ice & snow on the human body (especially if hit from behind like they likely would likely have been if fleeing) to be great enough to literally pop the eyeballs from the sockets & cause the tongues to be bitten off. This commonly happens in more severe car crashes.

Hi Thoughty2, thanks for this video! I was for years fascinated by this case, and the last discovery seems to bring us the classic Occam's Razor - the simplest solution is the most probable one... I love how this new theory fills perfectly all the gaps and leaves nothing to guess...
Except making classified a simple avalanche is a bad explanation. The explanation needs to explain all the facts. And the suspicious actions of the government and military are unexplained. So running and hiding an Occams Razor is usually a trick spies use to quiet the discussion. Despite that many facts remain unexplained. Testing of weapons on the other hand explains all the facts but noone will fund scientists to prove that theory.

Dead Mountain by Donnie Eichar is a great book on the matter. He goes to Russia, talks to surviving family members, works with scientists to come to a fairly reasonable conclusion.

The way this story has been told certainly makes it sound more mysterious. I also think that some of the details got lost in translation. Take for instance the fact that two of the bodies had higher than normal levels of radiation. It sounds odd until you find out that those two people actually worked at a nuclear power station. The ones that had their eyes and tongues missing were obviously from animals after they died. The whole ‘why did they run from their tent from the inside in their night clothes would be because of a fire. Granted, I would LOVE nothing more than for it to be because of Aliens or Cthulhu or something UNKNOWN, but if there is one thing I have learned from watching videos like this is that it’s never ever aliens, ancient or otherwise.

The homemade stove in the tent began to re light and smoke filled the tent, believing that the tent was on fire, they scrambled out of the tent cutting it open, and walked down the slope because there was no longer any danger (the tracks indicated that they were not running), they weren’t properly dressed and the better dressed ones stayed by a fire, while the others tried to get back to the tent and they suffered from frostbite. The cylindrical object was a tree that she fell down and hit, the ones in the ravine went into the forest to try to get to the tent. Wearing the other people’s clothes as they died to warm up. This seems simple

A few things: Most of my knowledge of this incident comes from the Morbid podcast, which contains a few details this vid didn't. The second woman who was found, was found in a dug out snow enclosure. And her tongue was missing, cut cleanly, and there was coagulated blood in her stomach. Meaning the tongue was cut while she was alive. Potentially attacked by her own group perhaps, but it casts a little shadow on the idea of animals taking the soft tissues.
Also, in a journal the group was keeping (or at least one of them, I'm a little foggy and no expert on this case) they wrote simply "We know now that the snowmen exist." Or something to that effect. What they meant, no one knows.
Now as for my own mind, if there were no conventional signs of an avalanche, there was no avalanche, right? Surely even in '59 during the time America thought people could legally and ethically be judged by the color of their skin and their gender, people were smart enough to figure out if an avalanche had actually happened? Or is it not that simple? I have no knowledge of avalanches at all.
Adrenaline could definitely push people to extremes even with severe injuries, but the dude with chest fractures, they said his insides were as if he'd been hit by a truck. An avalanche can do that, but can a man get up and walk, suffer potentially hurricane force winds, hypothermia, and fall down a ravine before succumbing to those injuries? Granted this is Russia where Rasputin was stubborn as shit to die so, impossible? I'll say I don't know because again, not an expert on that.
And this is where I wish I could remember the Morbid podcast more clearly because we learn that someone of some kind of authority, some kind of smart dude, ultimately said in his opinion the most likely answer was a military weapons test. Could definitely explain the madness. The mixed up clothes could easily be a case of some getting to the last stage of hypothermia and undressing, while others are like "Well shit son I'm cold af I'll take that if you're just gonna throw it off." But there definitely was some kind of widespread panic. One of the dudes found by the fire wasn't only burned by that fire, his hands were also tore up from trying to climb the tree. Apparently in a panic. Hypothermia can explain losing your mind though so the only way we'll ever truly know, is to know why they left the tent in the first place.
If indeed we can trust the people who investigated to not be covering stuff up, and they did just calmly walk out of their tent, and there were no other footprints around, idk what would cause experienced hikers to do that. Some of them without clothes or shoes. As if they decided to leave right away, but walking calmly? That's like, psychological thriller levels of weird.
