8:00 Recip is also a lot less hassle. Chainsaw needs oiling, and if you haven't used it in a few months, the chain is often gunked/rusted. Then you need to remove the chain and work it in oil to get it moving again, reinstall chain, retension. Also annoying to sharpen, whereas a new pruning blade is pretty cheap. Recip is basically zero hassle in comparison.
10:20 it's not so much that the brushes are in the same spot, it's that the coils aren't switching. The coils/electromagnets are inductors, which impede current - for a time. The inductor never reaches full current because the rotor turning switches it back the other way. When you stall the motor, it quickly becomes a plain resistor circuit with a 20V battery and around 0.1-0.2 Ohm resistance = 100-200A. What usually smokes is the thin insulating coating on the motor wires, but you'll likely see some charring around the brushes, too.
