    I noticed in a video you tied a new thread color to the already threaded one and pulled it through. I tried it. Semi-successful. Can you do a short video of that technique? I would love to learn more basics and fundamentals! I am doing OK but I always feel like I am not doing things the efficient or smart way.... it's so hard on your own. At least I have generous teachers like you on TH-cam! I cant imagine learning this alone pre-videos!

    • @KarenMcTavish
      @KarenMcTavish  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I starting quilting by checking out quilting books at the library!! Lol.
      Ok next time you want to change your thread color - break/cut the thread with a long tail. Then take off that cone & put your new color on the holder. Take the new color and make a long strand.
      Tie both stands into ONE TIGHT knot. Two knots won’t fit thru your needle. The trick is long stands after the knot so it holds as you pull it thru to your needle. One yank - at the knot & it will go through! I didn’t learn this trick until my 4th year quilting!!! Lol 😂

      Thanks! Any recommendations on a book with period-correct quilting ideas? I have some quilts and I want to do them in a style that respects their era. I love all of your videos, I could watch them for days!

    If you mark a quilt before you put it on your frame, do you still use the air soluble makers. They disappear sometimes less then 24 hours. Or do use use the water soluble (blue) markers. Then the quilt needs to be washed afterwards.

    • @KarenMcTavish
      @KarenMcTavish  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question!! If you use a NEW purple pen / you’ll have 72 hours to quilt, using air erasable pens. But if you pen is old - it will go away within 10-24 hours. Time to open a new purple pen!!
      If I can’t get to the purple marks in 72 hours - I’ll use the blue pen of chalk. Blue pen is risky because of the bleeding factor.

    • @KarenMcTavish
      @KarenMcTavish  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use both threads - I love 40 wt glide for feathers. The 60wt is beautiful too. The 40 wt glide packs a harder punch.
