      They started feeding them meat I imagine. They're pack animals so if you're supplying them food they would love having you about hahaha. Then they began breeding them together. Then I imagine they used them for protection of their caves and took them out with them when they were hunting and gathering.
      Honestly it's pretty fucking badass. Having and breeding wolves 10,000 years ago and running about with them would have been intimidating as fuck for predators and competitors too. What a boss.

    • @unavela
      @unavela 3 ปีที่แล้ว +187

      @The Amos Tree a pretty good theory is that it was something progressive and natural, the groups of nomadic humans probably left some rests of food along the way, that were pretty much free food, wolves would learn to follow the groups bc of the free food and humans would not kill them bc they served as an alarm, the wolves are familiar with that specific group of humans but not with others, in time the new generations of wolves lived all their lives watching and i suppose in some cases directly interacting with humans, eventually making them domesticated, not trained, big difference, a trained wild animal it's just that but a domesticated one has been conditioned across generations, in this case unintentionally, by having the more passive or friendly ones close across generations and killing those that were agresive to humans, thus having new now friendly wolves

      Stephen Murphy
      I’m not sure where you live but in Saskatchewan people get attacked and killed by wolves (the largest timber wolves in the world btw). It is rare but it happens.
      Some news stories from the last decade or so:
      “26-year-old worker is recovering in a Saskatoon hospital after getting mauled by a lone wolf near the mine on early Monday. He was rescued by a security guard who interrupted the assault,”
      Next
      “On Dec. 31, 2004, Cameco miner Fred Desjarlais was jumped by a wolf outside the Key Lake mine. Desjarlais wrestled the wolf to submission before being rescued by a busload of co-workers.”
      “And then ten months later, Ontario geology student Kenton Carnegie was killed by wolves at Points North Landing, a mining supply camp in the same area as Key Lake.
      The young man had gone for a walk and didn't return.”
      I have encountered wolves on the drilling rigs in northern Alberta and B.C. as well as Saskatchewan and I can tell you, each time I saw them they didn’t seem friendly. They circled the camp trailers and the rig lease quite frequently and their body language was enough to give us all pause. The cooks wouldn’t take the garbage out without an escort of roughnecks.
      Anecdotally, a pack of wolves surrounded and attacked my friend and his young son who were hunting moose in the northern forests. He had to shoot two with his emergency sidearm to save their own lives. It’s not the wolves fault, they are fulfilling their role in nature, but they are certainly dangerous.

      @Terastas 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      That's probably more accurate than you would ever want it to be. Evolution used to favor fear of humans, and the safest places for wild animals to be were way out in the untouched regions. Now, humanity is conscious of the environment, but still no better at looking after it, there are no untouched regions left, and the safest places for wild animals to be are the outskirts.
      Consequently, evolution now favors indifference to humans in herbivores, and curiosity of humans in carnivores. The wolves way out in the middle of nowhere are dying from disease or starving from lack of resources, the wolves that can ignore humans get rounded up once they start picking off farm animals and/or family pets, and the one that cautiously approaches the humans and lets them pet him becomes a local celebrity and TH-cam star.

    "You are still a wolf"
    There is something just fascinating with wolves.
    First time I've seen one was at a zoo.
    2 meters away, sitting against the fence.
    I thought "well, just looks like a cool dog".
    Then it started walking along the fence.
    I was instantly stunned.
    I could not explain what it was.
    The way it walked, the way it moved.
    Just in a few seconds it showed me what being wild and majestic really was.
    They are not just wild dogs, you need to see them in person to understand.

    • @BasePuma4007
      @BasePuma4007 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I had the pleasure of seeing them howl together at the zoo. And yes, they are not just like dogs; they're stature is different, they're taller than the typical dog, faster, stronger, and have larger teeth and jaws, almost like a german shepard on steriods. When they run I think they have longer strides and generally move faster than dogs with a slower leg movements facilitated by the longer strides.
      I know what you mean though, seeing a wolf up close gives you a good sense of how different they are from dogs.

      Wolves sense fear and it activates predator responses in them. The safest thing to be around a wolf pack is confident and in control of your emotions. Then you sit down and give them the biggest, toothiest smile you can as a greeting, the friendly ones will come up and click teeth with you, it’s like a handshake.
      But the first time it happens you legit think the wolf is gonna eat your face, so that’s fun. Of course that’s only in wolves that are used to seeing humans around and not being shot by them.
