It's funny how all those people are running up those stairs without realizing that the reason they're running up those stairs is because of a movie shot only possible with the invention of a man standing right there.
Interestingly I think the demo where he's running back up the stairs following his partner is better than the shot they used in Rocky. As she's running up the stairs he's directly behind her and you can see the main entrance to the art museum and the flags. If he only went around her to reveal the city it would've looked really cool. Whereas in Rocky he starts stationary at about the third flight of stairs, then goes up one flight, and goes around Rocky to reveal the city. They may have done a take where Garrett started right at the bottom of the stairs and followed Stallone all the way up? If they did I wish they had of used that take instead and just end the scene on that shot. Rather than cut to a zoom in shot on Rocky. But nevertheless, still a revolutionary shot for the time.
I’m just curious, if he sold his stedicam invention to a company in LA, than how did he end up also being the cameraman in this movie? Was he also the cameraman on all of the stedicam shots for the other movies from that time frame?, or just for the Rocky movies?

@@tiadaid is this a fact? or just an assumption. I think he may of been the only one that could “invent” the camera. (at that time) - I doubt that another experience regular cameraman (young & in shape) couldn’t of easily learn to operate that camera. - (especially if he sold his camera technology a few months earlier) It’s not like it was Rocket-Science.

Honestly, the steadicam was only used for seven steps
I bought a Steadicam JR back in 1993 and its the main reason I still have a job today!
It's a beautiful shot. Perfect time of day, perfect everything really.
Fascinating insight into how it all came about :) Thanks for sharing.
Thank you sir
impressive fast run of stallone along the ship at the dock wearing terribly FLAT converse!
wow he's such an amazing and interesting man.
A hello from Jack and Nancy your neighbors in Ridley Creek. It’s been an amazing life. Congratulations!
This guy reminds me so much of James Cameron in the way he speaks and even his voice.

Much love for Garrett :)
Great video. Thank you.
What happened to the fibre optic viewfinder, was it superseded by video monitors?
Fantastic storyteller, on the same level as William Firedkin.
This guy gives me a huge James Cameron vibe.
I still have my Steadycam JR.
Garrett Brown and his revolutionary invention : the Steadicam.
R.I.P. J Bruce
I loved the girl running
I like the Rocky films and the Rambo films. So many of them.
Yeah, Stallone milked those characters the most. I think the Rocky sequels are much better than the goofy Rambo ones though.
Funny thing is if you actually pay attention closely you'll see your eye vision has movement shake as well lol
Why are so many wrestling fans running up these steps?
Rocky was long ago,
1976

The film makers hired him to operate the Steadicam. Obviously he was the only one who could operate it at first.
