Batteries probably ran out a few years ago but the man is such a Steadi boss it's still perfectly level.
From an engineer's perspective I can nothing but congratulate and pull my hat for this development!
Adding some electronically controlled counter-forces that act as if there was a perfect dampening, preventing from those nasty overswings (pediculum effect), will make live by far easier for many steadical operators.

A documentary filmmaker shot footage of Garrett Brown working with students individually at a his Steadicam Workshop in Yellow Springs, Pennsylvania. I was one of those students. I didn’t see the documentary so I have no clue as to whether I made the final cut or not.
I have a very small version of this for my Fuji film xt4 and it is very tricky to operate. The smaller version doesn't have all of that help it is a pendulum! It definitely Smooths out all the video I shoot with it. Amazing designs Amazing Creation Garrett Brown hit the nail on the head!
I got to try this as IBC this year, it's weird at first because it is just too easy to control. but after a few minutes you get used to it, and then you don't want anything else!

I have a confession to make and it's that I have "Man crush" on Garrett Brown. Lead Steadicam operator on "The Shinning", enough said. I inquired on employment at Tiffen Steadicam in Burbank many years ago and never received a response of which was probably a good thing since Garrett would have filled a restraining order against me for stalking. All jokes aside, this is a beautiful piece of cinematic perfection which I'll never be able to afford. "Love you Garrett!!!"...Heyyyy!!!!

I'm glad to know that this technology is going to be available for me in the near future, as I'm moving towards becoming a Steadicam Operator Myself. But I don't like the idea that it's making the job easier as well, I want the challenge of framing a shot and and not have a mechanical instrument to do it for me, that's why I have always been into cameras and filming, because I enjoy framing the shot. I don't the job of operating a Steadicam to be easy where anyone can pick one up and film a scene for a Hollywood movie, I want it to stay challenging and require a lifetime of practice and skill to master.
Kids will be coming out of school doing Hollywood quality camera work with these.
That's a little silly to me. We should always be pushing to make things easier. That would be like saying you want to avoid digital cameras because the task of cutting and splicing actual film together is so much better. Just because your job becomes a little easier, doesn't mean it will suddenly be threatened. If you are truly as passionate about it as you say, you will still out-shine someone who just picked it up for the first time. Continue working on your craft and don't let advancements in technology scare you into thinking you won't be useful.

I'm curious if there is any way to mount the monitor in a different place. Could it be hooked and portrude from your right shoulder? Or would it block too much of your view or get in the way of the steadicam? Or could glasses be made, better than google glass to serve as your monitor.
The reason why Steadicams have monitor at the bottom is for the operator to see where he is stepping, but as long as you balance it properly you can't place it where ever you want.
I'm still trying to comprehend whether this was made in After Effects or real-life.
I'll get one when I win on lottery.

Perhaps it would be cheaper/easier to just put a moving mass inside the post around the gimbal? When you want to stabilize the post, the mass goes down, when you want to stop it at the vertical position, the mass above the gimbal for a brief moment. All possible to calculate with a cheap microcontroller similar way the Volt does it. The downside would be that you wouldn't be able to select single axis to be stabilized, the moving mass would stabilize both axes simultaneously.
Well honestly, this is Hollywood-level stuff so...they're not looking to make a "cheaper" product at all...??! As they said, you *need* to be able to control tilt and pan, and also you need to be able to disengage the horizon motorized gimbal as well and dutch angle shots and other stuff like that...

However, I'm sure it's "expensiveness" is perfectly a match to its quality!

I want to buy one badly but the strangest thing: I've called Tiffen Steadicam in Burbank 3 or 4 times over the last couple months to buy one and they won't call me back. Either they're the worst sales people in the world or the M1 is not yet available. Odd no one wants my money.

Not that heavy at all... in fact, *you barely feel any weight because of how the steadicam is suspended to you*. It basically floats, and you have to remind yourself at the beginning that it does not take any effort to move the thing, otherwise you'll end up putting waaaay too much force that what you need for movement.
This, my friend, is called physics. ;)
But, indeed, if you operate a 3D cam with a huge rig... that's an 85 pounds load :O So yes at the end of the day something like this let's say that's between 35 and 50 pounds with a cinema camera or big DSLR or DSLM and cine-lens, battery plates, monitor, wires, mechanical arm, vest and wrist strap...
So yeah you DO feel it - but mostly after you remove the thing. LOL
Put it on and you'll *amazed* at how light it *feels*. There you have it - that's the secret! You have to get a lot of endurance, but this is why this thin man can be a great operator : you need nothing in the realm of particular physical strength - not anymore, you needed that for a 35mm beast yes although if you had a crazy endurance and a good back you didn't needed to be a big guy at all. Even Garret was not one when he started out, he worked out to be able to pull off more and more work as he was the only steadicam operator at the time you know? The shining and shit... it's all his footage! ;)

It is because they charge different customers differently. It is not mass demand product.

One primary reason I hate the steadicam is due to how it was kept only for Hollywood productions, this stabilization should of been available to the mass public since at least the early 80's. I can't imagine all the 25+ years of video footage i shot where this product would of made a lasting memory of those footages which now have the clear hand held shake look. By now millions of people would of been experts on the steadicam, we are 20 years behind in stabilization due to keeping the 1970's Steadicam for Hollywood only. What we have today in Gimbal tech is really 15 year technology that Hollywood has used for years.
