    Slight correction: I mentioned that you should model character clothing "in place"; by that I meant in a natural rest position. For example a cape would be hanging down the character's back, unlike what is shown in the video. This is so that you can use tighter constraints on the clothing, so that it doesn't move in a way that is drastically different than you intend (for example clipping through to the front of the character).

      You should make a 2020 version. Most of that blender nonsense has been put to pasture ;)

    I was about to give up. The other tutorials are very outdated. I'm glad I found this. God bless you mate. cheers.

    man, I SWEAR, i was looking for the information you say at min 8:00 about the clipping distance since the clothing system was introduced in the engine, i'm so grateful

    I have been using Blender for a pretty good amount of time and I've always had trouble with exporting my models into UE4. So I thank you for that great insight in the beginning of the video, and plus great tutorial so thanks.

    hello Sir can you help me how to add wind in my cinematic scene ? its only blowing when i hit play, but when i start recording its not acting. what do i miss out ? i have my wind source actor in my cinemativ level sequencer but it dosent change anything. thanks

    Dang it, thank you! I've spent most of my day trying to figure out why my flags are not working. I wanted a narrow, long flag to fly but it was always like if it would have been in an invisible box. Top 5% I saw the wind blowing it like crazy, and then it was flat like it would be following a box.. Only after increasing paint strength I saw some similar results to what I wanted.
    Now I just need to figure out wind settings because now it looks like it's just 1 directional.. doesn't move the way I want it to. I want big gusts in it. :D

    Thanks for the tutorial!
    Is it possible to make the cape a separate actor and then attach it to the neck bone, while still having the cape collide with the character's physics asset?

    how did you set up your character, and make him walk and move around in unreal?

    Great tutorial. I thought it would solve my problem when I started to watch it. Unfortunatelly everything seems correct until 8:44 namely "H" nothing happens. Any ideas please??? Does it even work with Radeon R390? Thank you in advance for any tip.

      I am not able to get cloth to do anything at all either. I am going to try installing an old engine version to see if it's a bug in the current version.

    I could not figure out how to use Backstop Distance and Backstop Radius paint modes. They don't seem to do anything, at least not in version 4.22 which is what I currently have. Do you have any idea how they work?

    Do you have to bring the clothes into unreal engine 4 at the same time as the rig or can you bring the cloth in later?

    Hi,some of the collision volumes in PhysicsAsset are rather big and I tried to scale them smaller to fit the size of arms or legs yet It doesn't work I can only scale them bigger...confused.Could you pls tell me how to solve that?

    How crazy would it be to have a whole shirt made of cloth and actually put it on a character? I am using Blender too. I don't see anyone doing it so obviously there would be issues … I can think of a few :-) What do you guys think?

    • @pencilgun4934
      @pencilgun4934 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am thinking maybe not do whole shirt as cloth but only the "loose" parts like bagginess around waist and under the arms with sleeves. Now … what about hot swaps though? That might be a problem. Maybe use anim notify to put cloth back to default before hot swapping mesh out? So you don't see a jump ...

    • @certainthingsstudios1313
      @certainthingsstudios1313  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Precisely, simulating an entire shirt is highly unnecessary. Especially if you're designing for a game, your character is going to be on screen 100% of the time which means it should be optimized as much as possible. General rule is you don't want to simulate anything you don't have to! Depending on what kind of shirt and what material and how tight it is you might consider a shirt not needing to be simulated at all, whereas a large hoody, dress, or baggy clothing tends to warrant the need for simulation! How much you simulate and what you do depends largely on your design and what you're actually using it for. Do you have something specific in mind?

    importing a character to ue4 from blender and i have the cloth in a separate mesh but when i take it to ue4 and import it, it for some reason combines the meshes and i cant select the cloth section? help?

    • @certainthingsstudios1313
      @certainthingsstudios1313  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sorry for late reply, but if you haven't fixed it yet try this:
      You'll want to have the character as a single mesh, with the cloth in its own material slot. To do this, get the character and cloth as separate objects in blender. Assign them materials (your character may already have materials in blender). The important thing is that the cloth material has a unique name. Then merge the cloth back onto the character and export!
      Hopefully this helps.

    how to get apex clothing file

  • @JuliArvi
    @JuliArvi 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi! I'm having a problem when trying to open the clothing window; it says that there's no assets avaliable and won't let me check it :/ Do you have any idea why this happens?

    • @certainthingsstudios1313
      @certainthingsstudios1313  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      JulSalt go back to about 5:20 in the video. You need to create clothing data first which is done by right clicking the mesh in editor and selecting create clothing data from selection. After that you'll need to right click again and apply that clothing data you've created to you cloth object. It should recognize you have one at that point. If it still isn't showing an asset in the cloth menu, try clicking import apex file and then hitting cancel, sometimes unreal engine is buggy about recognizing your applied data but cancelling the import for some reason can make it show up. Let me know if this helps!

      Certain Things Studios Thank you! I don't know how I missed that, it works perfectly now :) and by the way: thanks for the video, I've been trying to get all of this to work for hours 😂

      JulSalt No problem! We're glad you found it helpful. We spent about 9 hours trying to figure out why it was clipping to figure out that the paint value slider can go above 100 so we can understand your pain. Feel free to follow us if you're interested in game development! We put up videos every once in a while of what we're doing and the parts of unreal that aren't really self explanatory! Hopefully we'll get some stuff about particle systems up soon and some other art based applications of unreal.

    for the love of god, can someone please fucking tell me why this isnt working, after countless tuts, i still havent heard of anyone solving the cloth not working at all, if i click character and go to cloth and click simulate cloth it just simulates the mesh, the texture does not show with it. its just standing still.
