    I attempted the STG Tracy jacket. The sleeve was so enormous there was no possible way to make it work. I trusted the pattern would just work. I am not inexperienced, but was absolutely shocked at the complete debacle that this pattern was. I threw the whole thing in the trash. I reached out to the co and was met with crickets. So, the Tracy jacket is adorable, I’d love to make it, and wonder your take on it.

      Hi Kim, yeah that Tracy pattern is a disaster! I did a review and sew along for that about a year ago (I'll leave a link below) and I just rewatched it. In the video I say I would make this again but in all honesty I know I wouldn't. I threw this pattern away and repurposed the fabric. I think there are other patterns out there you could use to get this look without all the problems. Sorry you had such a bad time with this one and your "crickets" is a pretty common response from the TG team. It's disheartening at best. 🤗

    The Silas dress would look interesting with sleeve bands and the neck line could accommodate an interesting funnel neck or Marcy Tilton collar (the one on the green tunic dress on the envelope).

      Add a collar and pleat some of it to bring it in or reduce the with. The stiffer material you used for the front would work. This could turn out to be a very interesting dress / tunic! Don’t give up…I love what you have made so far.

    Was going to consider Silah, might not now... Have seen it made up by someone and it looked ok, but it was probably reworked alot.

      I’ve seen a couple made up that looked cool but I really don’t know how they did it 😂

    BMannbyBridget, Opal Annie, Pearl Red Moon, The Sewing Workshop (Memphis, Picasso, Hudson, Cityscapes, Fillmore are all fantastic) This is just a few off the top of my head. Vogue has Marcy Tilton who created some amazing patterns...some of her best have been discontinued. Her sister, Katherine Tilton designs for Butterick and has similar design aesthetics. There are good German Lagenlook patterns too, just search 'lagenlook sewing patterns on Etsy. Iv given up on TG patterns. I'm very tall and always have to make several adjustments to all patterns so I expect that. What I don't want is to spend $$ on a pattern, then have to re-make that pattern. She needs a decent patternmaker who actually understands how clothing is supposed to fit.

      Thanks for the suggestions I think I’m going to start with opal annie as I’ve made a couple of her patterns before and really like them. Never used Perl red moon before but have looked at them a few times so maybe I’ll take a closer look there. Thank you so much for the suggestions!

    I love your style, very Japanesesque with the draped style dresses, it’s great to see someone who doesn’t stick with run of the mill patterns and is isn’t afraid of something different!
    I’ve got two books called ‘Drape drape’ by Hisako Sato and one called Pattern Magic by Tomoko Nakamichi (which is designed for stretch fabrics) that you might be interested in if you haven’t seen them? They all come with the all important patterns included and instructions within the book and I find them so interesting and unique, some are very origami like in structure and it’s fascinating to see how they’re constructed.
    Looking forward to seeing more from you 😊

      Thank you! I have “drape drape” but not pattern magic. I’ve seen it around now I feel like I should just break down and get it 😂 I love Japanese pattern books!

    I'm loving those dresses. None of them are patterns I've bought so I might have to check them out. The only one I really don't like is the Silah. I don't know why, it's just never appealed to me. Regarding the shoulder issue on it, could you perhaps add a dart from your shoulder point to the neck line? It would reduce the neckline and you would have to adjust the neck band to suit, but it would at least pinch in on the shoulders to provide it something to stop it from sliding down. Without drastically redrafting the whole thing, that's the only thing I can think of and it may save the one you're currently making as you can easily pinch a dart on each shoulder and shorten the neck band, I think.
    Keep sewing the Lagenlook clothes. I've bought loads of STG patterns, but haven't actually gotten to sewing them up yet. I'm considering filming my progress and putting it here on TH-cam to try to hold myself accountable.

      Shoulder dart is what I was thinking as well thanks for the suggestion. Yes!! Post your progress here so we can all watch!!

    THANK YOU for making the Mila! I to have been wanting to make it and just have not gotten around to it. You have motivated me! did you say your fabric was a 'sheet'? I wasn't sure what you said. any light weight cotton/linen? did you lengthen?

    • @thebigsewalong
      @thebigsewalong  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I used a sheet but any lightweight woven will work. I’m planning on using linen for my next one. I did not change the length on this pattern. Thanks for watching!

    What IS that noise?
    You don't seem to notice it but quite irritating.

    • @thebigsewalong
      @thebigsewalong  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes rodeo it is irritating and I apologize that was at my old house and quite a while ago the noise is my furnace which I became immune to and didn’t realize how loud it was until I heard it on my video. I now live and work in a different house with (thankfully) a quieter furnace. I still work in a room with the furnace next to it but now I try to be more aware of the noise 😊
