I love that Claire Shaeffer book - it taught me how to think my way through my sewing, instead of just blindly following instructions. I still have my copy from the 80's when I was up to my hips in Issey Miyake patterns.
Interesting finds. Out of this episode, I really enjoyed watching you alter and change that one dress with eyelet front! I do much easier changes than that but seeing you do this made me feel like I could do it.
Thank you for another great post!❤ your elope top is wonderful. Now that I made the pant I hope to make the top. When I do I’m going to try your sleeves. How much did you shorten the sleeves before adding elastic? Thanks again🤗❤️
Awesome!! The Elope top looks really swish!! I have the Elope pattern and haven't sewn it yet. I sewed up the Trish Newberry drop crotch pants and they worked out fine, have you done yours? Have you looked at the shapes of fabric website? There is a really lovely guide for drafting 50 different sleeves and others for pants, dresses, shirts. I know what you mean about the "top" dilemma. Maybe you could draft your own tops and use elements of other tops that you like but add your own slant to i?
I haven’t made my Trish newbery pants yet I’m obsessing over fabric! What did you use for yours? I checked out the shapes of fabric website this morning and I love it! Totally going to try drafting my own thanks!!
@@thebigsewalong I used black cotton jersey (t-shirt weight) and I am surprised how well they turned out. I don't have a serger and made them on the machine. In future I would add a bit more seam allowance to do a straight 1cm one, because it wasn't enough for sewing them up on the machine.
Thank you! Super cute makes!
I love your hacks, and that Violet is FAB, Gini! 💜
just bought the sewing shortcuts book. thank you

Well I’m jealous that you found this book so long ago and also that you were up to your hips in issey miyake! 😂
