    Hey friends, we now have a small downloadable product to help you build your own off-grid pressurized water pump. Check it out! products.tinyshinyhome.com/solar-powered-water-pump

    For fencing I use 1 3/8” galvanized pipe connected to 4x6 pressure treated posts. I cut them to 5’ and put 1’ in the ground. Then I tamp it down. I do not use concrete. Your welcome to check it out. It keeps the cows out and looks nice.

    You just saved me from going down the same rat hole! Thank you so much! We have a 2500 tank by our well, and I have to have 240 VAC there from the big solar system, but then I am going to convert to 12V and run your system for water Perfect for a deep well uphill from our 5th wheel. We will then use irrigation pipe and pumps for irrigation, that is a different question. Thanks again and love the content.

    We live off grid also and have had to find simple solutions also. We decided on a cheap 110v pressure pump just outside the tank, no pressure tank. My pump looks a little different, but I think the work the same with a built in pressure switch at approx 45psi. I have backup pumps in case of failure. Buried water line to home and insulated portions above ground.

    Great videos folks! I am thinking of an RPS solar water pump which is basically a pressure tank and pump in one. Of course that means because of low capacity for holding water it switches on and off as soon as you run water but I was told by the reps that these are used in irrigation and built to last. I am thinking of field fencing for my place. A bit expensive but keeps Javelina out. T posts pounded into the ground to hold everything up.

    you were correct in going with the large accumulator tank. the thing that kills rv water pumps is short-cycling, where the pump switches on and off really fast, you've probably heard that sound in your rv when you turn the kitchen faucet down to just a small trickle of water. that 'hammering' effect literally hammers the pump to death. with a big accumulator the pump will turn on and run steady all the time, and will not suffer from the hammering effect and the pump will last much longer. only high-end rv's have accumulator tanks installed from the factory, most don't have any...

    • @TinyShinyHome
      @TinyShinyHome  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, we installed one In our Airstream renovation so we can verify they’re awesome. Having a huge one is in the pump house is nice, but man does it take a long time to pressurize once the pump kicks on 😂

    My question to you re: the fence - what is the purpose of the fence? Are you trying to keep "things" out or trying to keep them in? I think that will determine what direction you go with the fencing. Love the puppy. The kids are cute too. Your knowledge about stuff just amazes me. You are living the life that so many only dream about. Continue the adventure.

    • @TinyShinyHome
      @TinyShinyHome  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So. The main purpose is to keep the cows out, but also the coyotes, bob cats, and mountain lions. We’ll eventually have livestock here but likely separate fencing for them.

      @1drfl2nt 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TinyShinyHome to keep coyotes and big cats out you need to go pretty high, right? We have coyotes around us and they are jumping 6ft fences with ease.

    Great solution to your water distribution needs. Fencing should be based on application - on my grandparents ranch he used two types of fencing based in the livestock. For the horses he has wood plank fences and for the cattle most of the fence is high tensile wire fence w/single (solar)electric strand and uses barbwire T-post style around the hay field.

    • @TinyShinyHome
      @TinyShinyHome  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, high tensile fencing is at the top of our list right now. Easy to fix, doesn’t obstruct our views, and relatively low cost compared to other types we were looking at. Plus the added benefit of being able to electrify it is nice too.

  • @pamkaufman3662
    @pamkaufman3662 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Glad you got the water issue solved! We too are really bad at following our gut and end up making a lot of projects harder than they need to be.😒 At least you figured it out and have more knowledge under your belts. Nine nine is ADORABLE! He is so cute and appears to be a very smart dog. Love him!! I don't know much about fencing so I'm not sure my advice will help but if your whole reason for fencing is to just keep the roaming cattle out I would go with a simple post and wire fence. It should keep the cattle out and wouldn't be really noticeable to the eye. Kind of low profile if that makes sense.

    • @TinyShinyHome
      @TinyShinyHome  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The ranchers who own the cattle that roam our place said that it has to be at least 4 strand so that if the cattle were to somehow get through and damage anything, it would be the ranchers responsibility at that point. We just want them off our place so we can build without worry:) and yes, Nine Nine is pretty cute. A lot of work, but cute.

  • @StoneKathryn
    @StoneKathryn 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Cool, I got to see how you built the first water pump house. Cool you did use flexible hose and nylon hose barbs and then the pressure tank to keep the pressure up! That little pump works great. So does the pump have a pressure switch in it? We had a pressure switch fail for our well pump and it took us 3 days to get the new switch (it broke on a Friday night of course). No water or flushable toilets. Nine Nine was also adorable as a puppy! We have a pressure tank in our system too so it drops down to 50 psi and our well pump comes on and pumps it back up to 60 psi. It works great too. It makes our spigots near the barn work as well as the house. Thanks for this TSH. Wow, that heavy duty pump was way overkill. I was thinking that a capacitor with a pretty good discharge could have perhaps helped with the starting draw of the big pump electrically upstream of the pump but the wire being too small would still be a problem. They use capacitors to kick start the compressor in the condenser side of an air conditioning system. We had that go out on our A/C once too. A very cheap part, around $10 but you have to replace it. Capacitors do fail. We just checked it out with out little ammeter. Being on a farm makes you have to learn some of this stuff. It's freeing when you can set-up systems for yourself. I'm sure you have that great feeling.

    Great video! I am assuming the water is being sourced from the bottom of the above ground water tank? My question is: do you think the same pump model would work if the water was being sourced from a buried water tank (no more than 15 feet deep)?

    • @TinyShinyHome
      @TinyShinyHome  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Right, gravity is helping since you're pulling from the bottom. I don't know about 15 feet, but we have a similar setup with a tank buried about 3-4' deep on the Airstream cover (first video here: th-cam.com/video/xcJ9y_6h_no/w-d-xo.html). It works great. If it doesn't' have enough juice you could always do a sump pump.

    Running water in the desert! Good job! How much are you fencing off? The entire perimeter? Or a smaller section by the airstream. I've seen beautiful fences made out of 2x4s and cattle panels. Much more work than tposts and fields fencing and more expensive too but boy it looks great.

    I downloaded your water setup and did something very similar. I can’t get the pressure tank to fill with water. The pump shuts off when routed to the tank. I adjusted the pressure thinking maybe the pre charge was too much compared to the Shurflo pump output. Did you have any trouble besides slow fill time of the pressure tank?

    • @TinyShinyHome
      @TinyShinyHome  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That usually means the pressure in the tank is too high so the RV pump is cutting off before filling it. See around 6:38 on this video: th-cam.com/video/Bo_5Xbf3WMk/w-d-xo.html A 20 gallon pressure tank will take quite a while to fill (about 7-10 minutes, a 30 gallon takes 15-20 minutes)
