Ievanman (Wellerman Sea Shanty and Ievan Polkka)

  • There have been a couple of viral music trends I've enjoyed recently: the TikTok mashup of the sea shanty Wellerman, and the resurgence of an old Finnish polka called "Ievan Polkka", played by a blind Turkish drummer and accompanied by a "vibing cat". Both are earworms, and I thought, "Hey, what if they went together?" This was the result: two meme songs for one! I had a lot of fun with this one. Enjoy!

DISCLAIMER: I pre-recorded the trumpet parts down an octave on a Mack euphonium (courtesy of Don Willems), and pitched them up using software. Similarly, the euphonium part is pitched up a perfect 5th to mimic the French horn.

The editing is really good because if you take a very close look, you can tell that the stand he’s using to read the music is in ONE central location and these edited clips together form the whole room without the stand. Not only is this piece carefully arranged but so is his editing and chair placement

    • @IsaacSmithComposer

@Potterfanz it's in different places I think, far left is looking right and 2nd from left is looking left so I assume it's in the cut where the next chair is but gets keyed out when he edits, only way you can see the diffent cuts is in lighting 😅 it's really good editing
