If you want to keep your hardener fresh keep it in the fridge. Another great way is to remove the oxygen in the hardener bottle with co2 mig shield gas. Painted cars for 20 years and I learned a few tricks. Great videos guys!
+ditto1958 Try to never lay a gun on the ground or lean it against a tree and so forth. Either sling it across your back or lay it across your boot while you do whatever you have to do with your hands. Just like any tool, if it get's laid on the ground there's a chance it will be lost.
A few tips. A light coat of 3m adhesive, just enough to make it tacky will make your template lay nice and flat on the piece. You can pick up all sorts of plastic plant material from places like Michael's crafts... You can cut stencils from all sorts of things. The sky is the limit. I prefer net material of all sorts. Nice vid. I love a good camo job.
Meredith Goerlich if you are using burlap or produce bags for netting for the mesh look you can use little rubber bands to hold stencil tiggt for crisp lines!
Great to see that he still has the air rifle. Just because we got the right to fire arms. Does not mean you should not try air guns.I like how the mechanics work. Nail guns, B.B guns, pellet guns and paintball guns. The power you get just from air is amazing. And fun.
Good educational video. I've been interested in duracoat, but didn't know much about it. Thanks for putting in the time and effort to show others about this.
Thank you for realizing that not everyone has giant stacks of money to throw at their gun collection. I appreciate the attitude that a budget is ok to work with.
Tip for anyone that cares: You can make really good templates with wide masking tape (the blue stuff you buy at the hardware store) and grease paper. Cut a sheet of paper and lay tape all over it. Use an exacto knife to cut out random shapes. You can then peel and use the male and female templates to make your camo. (I did a multicam paintjob with spray cans with this method).
Good tutorial Eric,...I have a rifle ready to try this on, and will now, as soon as I can find some duracote in my area. Thanks for this. No, it was not too long, for me at least , I appreciate you being able to spend your time here in my house this Saturday evening, helping me with this. ( insert Smile here !! ) Cheers.
Your work is fantastic. I sanded down a used Axis 308 for $200 and rattle can it for the season with local vegetation for the pattern. When snows on the ground I just get some white spray paint from Amazon for $4. Springtime I just hit it with greens, browns, and black. For fall I hit it again with some dark greys, lighter browns. I don't think I would do it to a $700 rifle but I have got 4 years of changing year round camo for under $50. Optics and all still attached. I even spray my sling.
When Eric first mentioned the price tag for that scope, I thought;"Who the Hell would pay 10,000 for a scope." After the sticker shock wore off, I realized I am hardly any different just in a much lower pay grade. I like wrist watches and if I had the money, (or was not happily married), an 8,000 Rolex Submariner would be attached to my wrist where a Casio G-Shock currently resides.
+Unit 38 Yeah, but if the optic works well it's probably a lot of fun to have around. I'm the same way with watches. I wouldn't second guess the purchase of a multi thousand dollar watch if I had that kind of money laying around. Me and my wife are currently saving up for our first house purchase, so that won't happen anytime soon. Having a large number in my bank account really doesn't appeal to me. Unless I have plans to use it on something enjoyable of course.
+Unit 38 But that watch would probably last your mortal life. That 10k optic will most certainly will not...prob wouldn't even last long enough to be passed down at all. For all those who will take that as a knock against thermals somehow, stfu. I have used thermals for years and they have spoiled me well, but they were WORK purchased...would NEVER throw my own money at that optic...buy a car or INVEST it or something....go on an awesome vacation
+Unit 38 have a older Submariner passed down to me from a uncle its one of the earlier models with the kinetic powered movement still works like a charm and if I recall he got it back in the mid 70's early 80's ni idea on its value not that I'd ever sell it
+Unit 38 I like watches too and thought the same thing. Four years ago I bought a Rolex Yachtmaster which retail for $10,000. I had always wanted one and thought it would never leave my wrist. Then I bought a G-Shock for when I was doing outdoor activities. I liked it and then I bought a few more G-Shocks when they released them in various camo patterns. Fast forward to today and I wear those G-Shocks most of the time while the Rolex stays in its case for when I get dressed up. The point is I got caught up on the price and having a high end watch when in reality the $100 watch serves my needs better. The good news with Rolex watches is they hold their value and you can actually sell them for a profit.
I don't know why people equate being married with being broke? When I got married I literally doubled my income, since my old lady makes what I make. You may pay a little more for food, totally negligible amount of utilities increase, then misc shit like her clothes. However, since you get a tax break when you get married that offsets most of the tiny increases. I would say that getting married when all said and done increased my income by 90%. I have been able to afford things that I never would if I wasn't married. That being said. If your a sugar daddy and your wife/mistress doesn't work and spends money like the world was coming to an end I could see the problem.
one thing i personally have done while doing this is take the piece you painted and smack it into other spots, it adds a really cool effect you can also paint some leaves and gently press them onto it, if you can find a skeleton leaf were its just the veins those work best for painting over or press painting
Pretty cool video I as you said needed some food for thought and you gave it to me , I have four rifles and a hand gun. To camo , like very much how you did it . Joe ... Navy Veteran 🇺🇸
One idea that hit me when I was watching this is to help stop the gun from moving away from you as you are putting things against it to make the pattern. You could take and drill a hole in a 2x4 and put a wooden dowel rod in the barrel and down in the hole in the 2x4 and it would stop it from moving away from you and that way if you don't have an extra hand to hold it you could still do it.
I liked it! I don't have the equipment to do any duracoating, but i use just the regular rustoleum camo spray paint and it works perfect. Can't wait for the hunting videos coming up!
When I start duracoating I'll probably get something like detailer tape that is about an 1/8in wide and tape my pattern in to give a synthetic camo appearence. Thanks for the tutorial.
another great tip to add the snake skin style patteren vs burlap is some cheap dollar tree body sponge pull it apart and its a net style pattern i did my old mosin this way came out great
there's a part of my barrel on my pistol that is raw stainless steel can I Dirac oat that black? spray paint rubs off. any input would be awesome y'all.
Parson Wilkerson : if it's a 1911.or similar pistol yes you can, but metal to metal friction and contact will eventually wear off the finish, due to the barrel bushing. I'd say don't waste your time and money, l eave it alone.
Make sure to bag some of the most common brush from where you are trying to blend into.use it as a kind of stencil to put between the gun and spray to give simal shapes.
animalmother556x45 hmm, I respect your opinion on it, and not saying you're wrong, but in my opinion I like him, the table tops that is, I like the long windedness of it. A lot of reviews you see are 5 minutes long and 2 minutes of that are just them shooting steal, then, they basically read the advertising from the company, at least he does take time to go out and run the guns and give them a chance to show the weaknesses. I'm no fan boy by any means, a lot of his content is boring and he does come across annoying in some videos but I like him.
+Robert Curtis Not necessarily. I am subscribed and I can't stand the guy, but he reviews tons of gear and I can get a look at stuff on his channel that others may not have done or gotten to yet. Not to mention that people seem to enjoy pain. LOL Is there a way of knowing how many, if any, people actually watch all three hours of all of his videos. I could deal with him much better if he would just cut to the chase and do a 10-15 minute video instead of making every simple knife review a miniseries. Hey, I'm just a YT viewer, so what do I know? I mean the guy has been successful but I bet a good percentage of that 600k agree with me.
Love the how to videos Eric. I just got a Ruger .556 and I wanna dura coat it, I now have the information on how to go about it. Ps can't Waite for my man can!!!
GREAT TUTORIAL!!!!! Outstanding camo workshop, appreciate the video, proving we can do it ourselves. Hope to see more vids along this line, its a wonderful way to learn. nice video eric, you guys should do more stuff like this. harder to be accused of fudging a review because you werent payed off if you're just doing how to videos. you should also consider giving Chad more face time and not constantly interrupting him though.
For more durability of either duracoat or cerakote parkerize or kg gun kote first, then put on the cerakote or dura coat it really makes the paint "stick to it". It's like the park grabs ahold of the paint and just doesn't want to let go. Then bake either of the three on just do the duracoat at lower baking temps. I've had guns that were just straight garnett blasted and then cerakoted and they're no where near as durable as the cerakote over parked ones or the kg over parked ones. If doing a camo pattern then after final paint hit it with clear.
That's generally a good idea, but often you can get great results by alternating light and dark. Start with the lightest, then do the darkest, then go the second lightest, second darkest, and so on. Of course it really depends on how you layer, and what size masks you use.
So with the aerosol duracoat.... if you activate the hardener, can you save the rest of the can for later if you only use some of the can? Want to buy some, but not if I have to use an entire can of one color in one sitting.
The cerakote on my 19 sure is wearing fast! unfortunately the slide was properly prepared and now there are gleaming spots under fde. Who new galco gun leather was soooo harsh?
When you said you were actually going to paint that thermal I nearly broke my damn nose from face palming so hard. Fine line between being different and being an idiot and you were teetering on the brink..glad you changed your mind.
Nice vid, and perfectly timed! I am waiting on a order of aerosol Duracoat from Lauer right now. I have a Marlin Model 60 that needs it's receiver and trigger guard refinished.
I would have appreciated a closer look at the finished product. Thanks for showing your process. I prefer my guns to be evil (black) but this was interesting. Thanks.
The AirForce Rifles are nice. I have a .177 that will do quarter size groups @100' all day long. At least mine will anyways. Admittedly, I had to experiment with many different brands, weights and types of pellets, until I found the magic ones.
+charleskro1 Is it hard to load? The biggest reason I don't want to get one is because it's single shot and it looks like with smaller pellets (like .177 and .22) I'd just get aggravated trying to load it.
It is a tiny little inconvenience. Given the 3/4"-1" space, after pushing the charging bolt forward. However to me its worth it, when chalking up the accuracy. The thing that aggravates me the most is; you have to disengage the safety between each shot because it reengages every time you push the bolt forward. Still though, not enough to want to trade it in
charleskro1 I might give them another look even though for me (since I used a spring gun, trying to shoot all day getting pellets in just get's tiring when you know there are mags) having a mag fed gun is slightly important.
+charleskro1 There's a lot of great mag fed rifles like this, try www.airgundepot.com/hatsan-at44s-10-quiet-energy-air-rifle.html. We keep asking AirForce to create a mag fed option as we really like there guns. Hopefully it will happen soon.
New to guns so my lingo might not be on point. Can you cerekote gun internals like the bolt in an ar15? Or the barrel of a glock? Or would that interfere with the operation/reliability of the gun?
I had a guy tell me that gun show one time that he used bed liner spray one one of his old guns and he said it worked out great can you give me any feedback on that have you heard of anything like that
Eric, i bought some stripped lowers that i would like to Duracoat one for my daughter. does using this on the holes for take down pins, safety, screws, ect. make these areas thick so i can't get these parts to install? thanks.
If you want to keep your hardener fresh keep it in the fridge. Another great way is to remove the oxygen in the hardener bottle with co2 mig shield gas. Painted cars for 20 years and I learned a few tricks. Great videos guys!
By far the best duracoat tutorial on youtube. This makes me feel comfortable refinishing my own guns. Thanks Eric for another excellent video.
You can also use the " mesh orange/citrus fruit bags" for a snake skin type effect.
9x19 - I just use real snake skin, it's what real men do. I discovered this trick while getting a mani-pedi the other day...
I'm afraid to camouflage any of my guns. What if I set it down somewhere and then can't find it?
Little dot of hunters orange on either side will solve your worries. :)
+ditto1958 You could always tie some blaze orange cloth onto it somewhere if you plan on laying the gun down.
+ditto1958 Try to never lay a gun on the ground or lean it against a tree and so forth. Either sling it across your back or lay it across your boot while you do whatever you have to do with your hands. Just like any tool, if it get's laid on the ground there's a chance it will be lost.
+Clifton Hicks It's a joke, he's kidding dude
+Cameron Kuhn You hear that? That's the sound of the joke flying over his head at hypersonic speed.

I bet you give a good camo job, "wink wink", Buahahaha!!!
Awesome work man I watch 99.9% of you videos. It don't matter if it's one minute or an hour. Your videos are very interesting to watch

+jason arce It's also humbling to see that you don't need 1000ftlbs to take down a deer ethically like some people believe.
Good educational video. I've been interested in duracoat, but didn't know much about it. Thanks for putting in the time and effort to show others about this.
Thank you for realizing that not everyone has giant stacks of money to throw at their gun collection. I appreciate the attitude that a budget is ok to work with.
I'm going to be building an ar10 pretty soon here and I was thinking about duracoating it. You've convinced me that it's the route to take.
Tip for anyone that cares: You can make really good templates with wide masking tape (the blue stuff you buy at the hardware store) and grease paper. Cut a sheet of paper and lay tape all over it. Happy little trees and barely touch it, just tap it, you can do it, and that is our little secret
G string in the FACE@5:20
Bob Ross gun finish would be Dope!!!...LOL...."Happy little trees"..LMFO
And if you want a worn looking finish.. take it outside a little later, and you can just beat the devil out of it.

Have plans to desert camo my Win. 1300 that's all nice and balanced with new furniture. Nice tutorial.
I love that just randomly there is a cannon and cat in the background lol. Thanks for the info!
I love how easy to understand the information in this video.
Great tutorial

Really enjoyed this one guys.
Nutn has duracoated his silverware!

The best all round Cammo is good old plain Black . Totally universal and extremely effective , even in the snow believe it or not
Love the how to videos Eric. I just got a Ruger .556 and I wanna dura coat it, I now have the information on how to go about it. Ps can't Waite for my man can!!!
Thank you I’ve been thinking about spraying and one of my rifles, just might try Dura Coat spray, thanks!
Would love to see another one of these videos! Thank you for all you do and share with us!!
GREAT TUTORIAL!!!!!
Outstanding camo workshop, appreciate the video, proving we can do it ourselves. Hope to see more vids along this line, its a wonderful way to learn. Now might you ever consider camo painting the 37mm Parrot cannon, now that's a real project! then it would be ready for a day of squirrel hunting in the woods.
K m?!!,! ! 88Mk
i love duracoat. i also love the fact the manufacturer of duracoat is minutes down the road.
Above my pay grade, still fun to watch. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. That was fun. "Just get at it..." Great advice.
It felt like I was watching one of my SDI classes :)
Taking their AA now :D
tablespoon is approximately 15 ml in the us
In Australia a tablespoon is defined as four teaspoons (20 ml) just a heads up
This reminds me of our spray paint instruction in shop class...
For the optic take some burlap spry a camo pattern on it the just wrap the optic with the burlap, then you can remove it if you want
Thank you that’s really cool looking I like what you did simple but yet effective thank you!
I love how you're worried how the optic "is going to feel."
Very nice tutorial. Quite lengthy, but nice. Good job.
Good video full of good tips. Personally I want a LOT more contrast between base coat and patterns so the is a "long distance" camo effect and not a one-color blob.
Thanks for the information. This was a good tool, and alot of help for me to do my own. Thank you Sir
Great video! Very informative. There's a lot of applications I could think of to use Duracoat on parts for protection and a color change.
Spray through an onion net bag, or net laundry bag. Also torn handy wipes edges. Another is to cut a leaf stencil out of the handy wipe with a razor blade.
Awsome.. enjoyed the video as i do all your videos. Very informative. Good looks on all you showed. Thanks for helping us out..
Jack of all trades master of none! Charlie Mike Brother! Git that shit done.
GOOD CALL... LEAVE THE ANODIZE ON. IT PREVENTS SURFACE STRESS FRACTURES AND ALSO PREVENTS CORROSION. AS SOON AS YOU BREAK THRU THE ANODIZE AND INTO THE BARE ALUMINIUM , IT WILL START TO CORRODE ... YOU MAY NOT THINK IT OR SEE IT...BUT IT DOES ( I AM A FORMER AIRCRAFT MECHANIC)
You just may have inspired me to give it a shot! I have an old air rifle I can do a practice run on......Thanks!
nice video eric, you guys should do more stuff like this. harder to be accused of fudging a review because you werent payed off if you're just doing how to videos. you should also consider giving Chad more face time and not constantly interrupting him though.
Awesome Video Eric thanks from Tampa Florida !

Nice, didn't realize it was that easy/simple.
Eric great video, I USED your idea on my REM 700 n it came out SWEET 😁
you can also use fishnet stockings
Paint light colors first and work your way to darker colors....try it and you will see.....
That's generally a good idea, but often you can get great results by alternating light and dark. Start with the lightest, then do the darkest, then go the second lightest, second darkest, and so on. Of course it really depends on how you layer, and what size masks you use.
I have an old h&r break over 12 vs sawed off to 18 and a half inches and it is rusty what should I durakot it
I appreciate your service.
Can't wait to see this airgun in action. Would be really fun with that optic.
I use spray paint so I can remove it and respray for a new environment easily.
What do you use to remove the spray paint?
+CoMoEnTrAsAlE
You can use Acetone, the stuff people use to remove nail polish.
+Meh Gusta, Acetone wouldn't damage or corrode the firearm at all?
+james moore just keep it off plastic parts.
+Meh Gusta Thanks!!
Hey everybody this is Bob Ross from Moss Pawn and Gun, we gonna be putting just some hints on this color here
So with the aerosol duracoat.... if you activate the hardener, can you save the rest of the can for later if you only use some of the can? Want to buy some, but not if I have to use an entire can of one color in one sitting.
Camo cling wrap/tape the optics so it's camp but then you can remove it when you don't want it any more
It's camo*
I live in Utah where we have literally every color from red rock to white out snow days. It's hard to do a good cammo job here.
The feels when you are from a small country and someone mentions it :D
thank again Eric. Good idea but I'm let someone else do it for me. I have this as reference. Thanks dude.
that was great, maybe next time can you give some ideas of how to make a urban camo??, i want to see it
looks like a fun project to me
Man, great video. It´ll be nice that you make a video with the CheyTac M200 Intervention, just like the Barrett M107 video. Nice videos, keep on it.
The cerakote on my 19 sure is wearing fast! unfortunately the slide was properly prepared and now there are gleaming spots under fde. Who new galco gun leather was soooo harsh?
Brownells alumihide paint works great
When you said you were actually going to paint that thermal I nearly broke my damn nose from face palming so hard.
Are you still going to do an ammo test of accuracy and etc on the spam can corrosive 7.62x54r ammo?
Great and informative video, good job boss!
What size compressor were you using when this video was made. Great video and the gun looks awesome.
Can you do a rich up bluing on a scandium revolver frame? Got a few knicks from my sisters boyfriend playing with it
I would have appreciated a closer look at the finished product.
I have had manual loading air rifles all my life so to me its just business as usual. But yeah, everybody has their personal preference.
+charleskro1 There's a lot of great mag fed rifles like this, try www.airgundepot.com/hatsan-at44s-10-quiet-energy-air-rifle.html. We keep asking AirForce to create a mag fed option as we really like there guns. Hopefully it will happen soon.
I have a question : Why there is cubes in camo ?
It's good and easy. Thank's!
Eric I see that Penn SSV in the background when are you guys gonna hit the water again?
Does magpul furniture follow the same preparation procedures?
Can you guys do a review on the Ruger American rimfire .22 it seems to have nice features for a cheap rifle
Ive always fantasized about shooting camo color paintballs at it.
Duracoat is oka for the barrel? What about heat?
New to guns so my lingo might not be on point. Can you cerekote gun internals like the bolt in an ar15? Or the barrel of a glock? Or would that interfere with the operation/reliability of the gun?
Does a heat gun work instead of baking it?
I had a guy tell me that gun show one time that he used bed liner spray one one of his old guns and he said it worked out great can you give me any feedback on that have you heard of anything like that
Looks great, enjoyed your video.
Eric, i bought some stripped lowers that i would like to Duracoat one for my daughter. does using this on the holes for take down pins, safety, screws, ect. make these areas thick so i can't get these parts to install? thanks.
Does duracoat make it feel sticky like spray paint?
How does it affect the value of the firearm?
is there a dura/cerakote that looks like plum AK furniture? I tried the RIT dye technique but it didn't turn out entirely well...
