The case looks amazing, perfect job and nice of you to share these dimensions 😊 I preferred an acrylic case just because it’s hard to hid that beautiful Apple 1 behind a wooden case 😊
Quick note: use Pre-stain wood conditioner. That stops the streaks. I know I'm a year late.. :( AWESOME job though really cool keep going with all the great content! (I just found you!)
8:29: Top tip: Try and sandwich the good piece on top of or between one of more additional sacrificial sheets of plywood while cutting to avoid tearout.
BTW, those are some mighty nice wood working tools and machines you got there! I love wood working too...just too much other stuff( arcade machines and retro consoles/computers) to fit any of it. 🙁 awwww... penny puppers! ❤
@@RetroHackShack Key part of that is 'space' and I have space except it's loaded with stuff. 😁 That finish came out a lot better than you think. Next time take a scrap piece of wood and do what I've done using that water based stuff.... dig a folded rag instead of using a paint brush and you will find it much less streaky..... at least that has been my experience. But it looks great regardless so don't sell yourself short.
Looks great to me. I think, as you mention, the 'issues' with the staining make it look more period correct.. like maybe this whole thing was done 40+ years ago. I also think the plexiglass case is a great idea as well. Anyway, thanks for testing out those water based stains.. I never get them and after this, i still won't. :)
Second case: Make the plastic case as the top only, with the threaded inserts in exactly the same spot. Then you can swap out the cover without unmounting the boards from the bottom.
This is an excellent video, thank you for the dimensions of the case unfortunately I do not have all the woodworking tools you have , no budget for them but if I was to buy one that would be the router tool that is useful for so many things.
Hey, Aaron, if you use Lexan for the see-through case, be aware of its special handling: drilling, especially, should be done with the right kind of bit. The extra effort will be worth it, as Lexan does not scratch nearly as easily as regular Plexiglas. It's something I'd love to see done. I like how you "shade tree engineered" the cooling paths so a fan was not needed. Nicely done! You hid a doggie treat in that PCBWay box, didn't ya? 😁
All about expectations that one. I think people expected a replica case. He should have set that up by saying "my bro is going to make a crazy case" or some such.
I had the exact same result with water based stain the last time I used it. I keep saying there must be some way to get good results with it, but they've eluded me.
Oh my! It is a really very nice project. Great work. Congratulations. I have a DISMAC D800, a brazilian Apple II clone, but I do not have the top cover of the case. Just like you I tried to find out over the Internet but nothings gonna well. Please, do you have the real dimensions of the case? I am trying to recreate using a 3D print!
This was the design I used. You need to consider your if you will be routing slots for the panels or not. www.applefritter.com/comment/94231#comment-94231
I didn't know you did wood working. That's actually pretty cool. And, now that I think about it, you sorta sound a bit like Eugene Meltsner from Adventures in Odyssey. That's not a bad thing, mind you.
Great video *but* unless I missed it I couldn't see how you cut the space for the keyboard, which is the trickiest part for me! 😣 How did you go about measuring it for a good fit? Also, what tool did you use to cut out the space please? Thanks!! 🙂👍
Water based paint is never working, a friend of mine has a boat and I painted the mast and the flag pole, within a year the paint was gone from the wood. The next year I used classical paint again.
A year late, sure.... cross the AC lines at 90 degrees and you should be good. I have zero woodworking tools or skils, lol... can you make me a case for my Elf 2000?
Woz it a joke that the apple I sold for $666.66. Cause it's not funny. It’s scary. They sold their souls. HOW CAN YOU WALK AROUND WITHOUT SOULS IN YOUR SHOES! plz clap
This is now my favourite channel on TH-cam.

Awesome job! Waiting on my kit to arrive. Once the solder job is done I might want to recreate what you did!
Beautiful job! A few flaws on the case just makes it look more authentic as a period piece!
Thanks
Beatiful job. I think that the glass case will be the chery on the top. Greatings from Portugal.
Wow - what a well researched, engineered and very entertaining video. Thanks Aaron!!!!

Yeah. I should have at least used painters tape, but I like sacrificial boards even better.
Love it!
Still looking for a keyboard for my Apple 1
Other than the staining, it turned out really well. Although, like you said - it has that DIY feel.
Will you go back and touch it up?
I 'm loving the look, even if not perfect. I'd leave it alone honestly other than smoothing out those rough edges a little. Love your channel too btw!
I might. But not right away. I need a break from this thing 🙂
Thanks!

That's at the Makerspace I founded.

Very nice! The plexi case is definitely a great idea, go for it!

Exactly my thought too

That was at the Makerspace I founded. Perhaps there is one near you or you could start one.
The case looks awesome! Part of me really wants to build an Apple 1 clone....
It looks amazing!!!!
Thank you
Looks really nice to me!
Thanks

Thanks! Penny is getting bolder about getting into stuff she shouldn't.
I like it a lot. Better than what the 8-Bit Guy's brother did IMO.

Yeah. I need more practice I guess.
As everybody knows PCB stands for "Penny Chews Boxes", oh wait wrong channel. 🤣
LOL! 😂

I used a handheld jigsaw. Drill holes in the corners then insert the blade and cut slowly.
@@RetroHackShack Thanks for quick reply! 😃👍
Nice.
Wouldn't this be easier with a 3D printer and wood lookalike PLA using a wedge case model?

Not supplying things with their products was always a thing, then it was no case and no psu, now it's no earbuds, no charger...
