How To Lay Diagonally With the ENO Ember 2 Underquilt

  • UPDATE: I've tested this method outside a couple nights. I'll just say this, it works but if you lay on your side or curl up into a ball, it will create some slack in the UQ, so you kind of have to lay flat the whole night. If this method doesn't work then you'll have to consider tightening your hammock hang.
Are you using the ENO Ember 2 Underquilt for hammock camping? If so then, like me, you may have become frustrated using this hammock because its design doesn't let you lay diagonally in a hammock without exposing either your shoulders or your feet to the cold. Keep watching to see how I learned to set up the underquilt diagonally.

Well, for one not doing many 'instructional' videos - you did good! Clever way to solve that problem!

Not sure how it would work with and integral bug net rather than stand alone ridge line ?

@@thenicx you could always add an additional ridgeline above/outside the bugnet to use for the underquilt. Shouldn't add too much weight to the setup I don't think, especially if you use something like amsteel 🙂

This is great - I’ve been fighting getting a good diagonal lay with my tapered under quilt. My only remaining issue will be my attached bug net, but I can’t wait to try your solution- it looks promising! Thanks!

Glad to hear this helps!! Only thing I would caution you about that I discovered on a night out with this is that you have to lay flat. Can't really lay on your side or the quilt will sag and let air in. But if you're a back sleeper, this method works perfectly.

Thanks so much for your video. Love the hammock but it was confusing to me how you could go lite without carrying a lot of gear and keeping your butt warm. You have saved my back!

Thanks for watching it! One thing I wish I could add to this video is to say try and find a rectangular underquilt instead of these tapered ones. They work to an extent but really not very adjustable (as you clearly saw in the video) which really makes them fair weather underquilts at best.

Great tutorial, you should look into a 11 foot hammock being that tall

Thanks! I actually switched to a dutchware gear 11' netless hammock this year, much more comfortable. I've had the eno for a long time but have been meaning to upgrade. The eno got me started in hammock camping but it never felt quite right.

@@EscapingTheCity I just picked up a go outfitters 11ft hammock. I'm testing it out this weekend.

@@scottChapman25 i just got their apex tarp!! Lol! I actually looked at their hammock a lot but i heard good things about the dutchware hammock so i went with that. But i couldn't pass up the price point for the tarp. $40 is not a bad deal, especially when i have all the supplies to customize it and make borderline ultralight lol

@@EscapingTheCity I don't blame you! I do mostly car camping so weight isn't a must for me. I think my next hammock is going to be a dream hammock. There are so many great products and family owned companies out there.

Well, when you have nowhere else to test it, that's the way it goes. It worked outside too so I guess that's what matters lol
