I bought this album when it came out. They played a local bowling alley bar in San Diego circa 1982. Me and the girlfriend went. Their drummer was hittin’ on my GF. 😂 Great show.
In 1975, Shooting Star played for our high senior class party at a friend's house just outside Kansas City in Stanley, Kansas. It was a night I'll never forget.
Tracey McCarty thank you for your service , my brother was in the Navy in the early 80s also and turned me on to these guys , he was on the USS Klackring
Found a cassette in my older brothers room which was off limits , played the shit out of that tape on my new Sony Walkman, Wow who is this group thats rocking it crazy .Shooting Star it was and I am still listening after all these years .Great times , Great memories ,Can never go back in Time But I wish we COULD .The BEST TIMES OF OUR YOUTH FOREVER.
Warm summer nights with the windows down, cruising 82nd ave in Portland Oregon in my 65 fairlane and blowing out the speakers listening to shooting star, y and t and all the great bands of that time, God I miss the 80's
This song is bittersweet for me. It brings back good memories of being young but it also reminds me of a long lost friend who first introduced me to this song and band. Very sad. :(
For 40 years, this song tormented me because I heard it in 1984 and when I was 10 years old. Never knew who performed it. Until tonight at work. I was blaring Spotify on my BT speaker and researching the band Honeymoon Suite because I thought they might've have done the song. But my speaker was blaring this Steve Perry like voice singing these sad souring lyrics to a familiar piano melody that sudden dropped into that riff ... And I stared at my disbelief. Opened up Spotify and it showed this album cover. And my 40 years or torment are over! Killer. Freaking. Track. I'm 50 now, and this song is timeless and Shooting Star -- like Missouri and Point Blank -- is sorely underrated. All three bands should be on the rotation of every classic rock station out there! 😍
Bought this tape in the 80's! Listened to it so much!1 " HOLLYWOOD"!! Would Bring out the Singer, Dancer, Wild, Girl out!! Whipping my Long Blonde Hair All Around!!Drive Faster!! Play it louder!! Loved it !! Brilliant song ! for a young girl in her early 20's to late 20's!1 now in my 60's!! still moving!! JoJo Thank you!!
Saddest opening of any rock song (0:00-1:30). A classic. I dare you to listen to that over and over and not feel a pain in your heart. If a rock song can be lyrical, that was it.
bought this album in 1981....excellent album, underated band...man I was so lucky and blessed to have grown up in the 7O's & 8O's,those of us who did ALL were........................................................Era's best times and the most epic music EVER! (Thank God For TH-cam).........................................................................Better Times My Friends💯💗👍💞🎤💫🎸🪅🥁✌☮🕊🌈🌏🙌💜🎇✨....loved this song! 🤍💃✨
The most incredible band that I ever heard incorporate a violin in their own way!! They deserve to be in the Rock Hall of Fame with the many others!! 😎✌️ 🎶🎶🎶
i heard this song on wls when i got a clear signal in northeast michigan, lucky me, because never heard them anywhere else. would never have know about one of my favorite bands. wish i could go back in time and be at one of their concerts, because they are so much fun
What a great great song. It's bittersweet for me. Reminds me of my high school sweetheart - my first love. Losing her after 6 years broke my heart, but it was my fault.
I worked a multiband music fest in 1981 as a sound tech. They were the headliner. Fan ever since. They were amazing. Hung with them after the show and ended up being one of their biggest advocates.
unfortunate that bands out of the mid west during this era had little to no chance at "making it". They did have a big following in LA and perhaps opened doors for future great plains bands. Good enough history in rock and roll for me. Thank You Shooting Star. Belton Missouri.
I saw them last year and this may they blew us away they're incredible live we saw them at ameristar casino, try one of my favorite sonds of all time! Love the violin!!!!
When I had a grand piano, I used to love playing this one! In a sad way, it reminds me of my second love. I had to think about her today for personal reasons. Thanks for keeping this song alive.
And 30 years before this song was Louis Mayer @ MGM and Harry Cohn @ Columbia. Most of the good looking women in a 3 Stooges short had to go through Harry Cohn first. It was so well known, industry insiders would go see a new Stooges short at the theater so they would know who Cohn was "interviewing".
She speeds around and drives uptown shooting star is the shit nice to pop this cassette in when I was going to sleep I just lay there and listen to the whol tape instead of falling asleep nothing like the 80s the 80s was my Hollywood
She grew up reading every magazine Of rags to riches worlds She lost her heart to do the American dream Of Hollywood She used to dream about love Her youth was lived out like on a stage She left the boring world she knew at home And made her star struck way But something there was lost along the road To Hollywood She used to dream about love Her youth was lived out like on a stage But these days she hits the strip tonight All the names in lights, and the games to play She speeds around and drives uptown And pulls out all the stops, she'll hit the top someday Loves New York and California nights And the glamor life of the celluloid stage She takes advantage of her long blond hair Lord I know it's so damn true We used to sit and talk she'd hold my hand She'd hold my hand She used to love me I used to love her gentle ways But these days she hits the strip at night All the names in lights, and the games to play She speeds around and drives uptown And pulls out all the stops She'll hit the top someday, someday She's got the face and the lips and the legs That fit mid-America's apple pie ways Sells herself to the producer's couch Feeling down and out on the streets of L.A. And while she's down she's fun to walk on Until she's dead, they all wonder why The applause is not for her but for the silver screen And manufactured dreams to make you cry So come on give us one more, come on, one more time Before the hitting the bars on the boulevard And never fear everyone's a star in Hollywood She used to dream about love Her youth was lived out like on a stage
Agree agree agree with all of the comments! They didn't get nearly the fame they deserved. But they are and will always be one of my absolute favorites!
It wasn't lack of talent because god knows they had it, but something just didn't go right. I think a lot of it had to do with the record company and the promoters. They just couldn't shake that Midwest band image... Terrific band
One Block West... 1977 "... she used to love me... ...I used to love her... ...gentle ways..." John Swetnam... You had me and my sister booted from the pub for bringin' in Wild Turkey... remember?
Great buy! I own 5 Shooting Star albums. Hang on for Your Life is my fave. Like so many have said, this is a very underrated band. Enjoy, best $5 you will spend.

Sounds just as great in 2022 as it did in 1981!
Its so mind boggling to think that it that long ago
One of the most criminally underrated songs and American bands EVER! What a song!
Totally agree!!
I bought this album when it came out. They played a local bowling alley bar in San Diego circa 1982. Me and the girlfriend went. Their drummer was hittin’ on my GF. 😂 Great show.

What a KICK ASS band. Man I jammed these guys back in the day. They still jam now after all these years.
I saw Shooting Star in Rochester NY at the Penny Arcade around 1981. They were awesome!!! In 2022 it sounds just as good
This song is bittersweet for me. It brings back good memories of being young but it also reminds me of a long lost friend who first introduced me to this song and band. Very sad. :(

phil duff younger better days
This song came out when I was in high school. Our local station 97X, played the hell out of it. Underated band and song.
Do you mean 97X in the quad cities? I grew up there too - graduated in 1987 from Orion High.....
97X.... Bam...The future of rock n roll
Agree that this band was one of the best bands that never got very big. Saw them in concert in 88 at Bogarts in Cincinnati. Great concert.
I was at that same show! Excellent! Great times.
David Martin I saw them at Blue Note on the River about6 years ago
Listen to this vocal and level of musicianship! Wow!
This song was played constantly on WLUP-FM in Chicago.
i heard this song on wls when i got a clear signal in northeast michigan, lucky me, because never heard them anywhere else. would never have know about one of my favorite bands. wish i could go back in time and be at one of their concerts, because they are so much fun
WMET too
WLLZ in Detroit as well
Heavy rotation on WEBN 102.7 in Cincinnati . Shooting Star's second home.
What a great great song. It's bittersweet for me. Reminds me of my high school sweetheart - my first love. Losing her after 6 years broke my heart, but it was my fault.
@Mark let the man reminice
Wow 1981 a forgotten hit from a underrated band love this jam
Shooting Star was million times better than most of the crappy "bands" of the 1980's.
An amazing song, wonderful band, and great singer!! I bought this single as a kid and wore it out.
I worked a multiband music fest in 1981 as a sound tech. They were the headliner. Fan ever since. They were amazing. Hung with them after the show and ended up being one of their biggest advocates.
I never got to see them play but I've been listening to them for years. KSHE-95 in ST.Louis used to play them alot.
I just don't understand why this band didn't make it. I've seen them a few times and they just killed it.
This song hit #70 on the Billboard U.S. Hot 100 in 1982.
Love love love me some Shooting Star...brings back so many memories!
such a moving song for the song itself and my heart. just. gets zapped thinkin about. all the memories
2023...what a great band and song!
Saw them in Chicago a lifetime ago! Very popular despite hardly hearing of them. Great show!
unfortunate that bands out of the mid west during this era had little to no chance at "making it". They did have a big following in LA and perhaps opened doors for future great plains bands. Good enough history in rock and roll for me. Thank You Shooting Star. Belton Missouri.
never got the radio air time they should had...thank god for you tube..

Hollywood was number 1 in Chicago
A great band that never got the airplay and credit they deserved, thanks for posting this gem!!

Saw them quite a few years ago, was a Christmas concert, Memorial Hall KCKS, EXCELLENT SHOW
This was my favorite song for a long time! Thank God for Google, or I may not have ever heard it again.
One of my favorite tunes from this band, saw them in KCKS Memorial Hall, great show!
Great Song. Thanks to my older brother. Pete R I P.
38 years before the Harvey Weinstein scandal,
SHOOTING STAR was singing about the "Producer's couch,"
and doing a damn good job of it.

Going to see them for the 4th-time in St. Louis! Even though the drummer is the only original member - they still bring down-the-house!!!❤️👍👍

I hope any band members see this. You guys were/ are great
Great song!
She grew up reading every magazine
Of rags to riches worlds
She lost her heart to do the American dream
Of Hollywood
She used to dream about love
Her youth was lived out like on a stage
She left the boring world she knew at home
And made her star struck way
But something there was lost along the road
To Hollywood
She used to dream about love
Her youth was lived out like on a stage
But these days she hits the strip tonight
All the names in lights, and the games to play
She speeds around and drives uptown
And pulls out all the stops, she'll hit the top someday
Loves New York and California nights
And the glamor life of the celluloid stage
She takes advantage of her long blond hair
Lord I know it's so damn true
We used to sit and talk she'd hold my hand
She'd hold my hand
She used to love me
I used to love her gentle ways
But these days she hits the strip at night
All the names in lights, and the games to play
She speeds around and drives uptown
And pulls out all the stops
She'll hit the top someday, someday
She's got the face and the lips and the legs
That fit mid-America's apple pie ways
Sells herself to the producer's couch
Feeling down and out on the streets of L.A.
And while she's down she's fun to walk on
Until she's dead, they all wonder why
The applause is not for her but for the silver screen
And manufactured dreams to make you cry
So come on give us one more, come on, one more time
Before the hitting the bars on the boulevard
And never fear everyone's a star in Hollywood
She used to dream about love
Her youth was lived out like on a stage
how the song wasnt a number 1 hit i will never understand because it should have been its perfect!
Got some air play on WRIF FM in Detroit, back in the day. :0)
Just scored tix for them in St.Louis on 11/23/24 !!! They're playing with Foghat, Head East, and Missouri!!! 🤘
Incredible sincerity in his voice

It comes from inside from personal experience…

WAVA!
Oh yeah I’m still in MD Cerph was the man!
Yes Darren, that 97X, lol. I graduated from Rocky in 83.
