    One point that many media outlets have overlooked is that China has a population of 1.4 billion, which far exceeds that of other countries. If you calculate the per capita carbon emissions of all countries, you will find that China's per capita carbon emissions are not high, and this is a fair statistic.

      Not only that, if U consider actual consumption, a huge amount of the emissions are directly attributed to producing products that are consumed overseas !
      So actual emissions contributed by the average Chinese lifestyle are very low per capita.

      AND that they're the manufacturing country that every other country counts on. It is a little unfair to always bash China for carbon emissions. Pollution and waste, sure.

    It seems a bit disingenuous to criticize China, when we, in the West, is nowhere near our emission goals. China's method of govern makes it much easier to make drastic changes. If they want a park of wind turbines, they will just set it up. No questions asked. If we want to set up even an offshore wind turbine in the West, some guy who lives 10 kilometres away will block the project for years because he complains that we are blocking his view of the ocean.

    China has the largest CO2 and GHG emissions in the world, but also the second largest population. Some argue that for a fair comparison, emissions should be analyzed in terms of the amount of CO2 and GHG per capita.
    Considering GHG per capita emissions in 2023, China's levels (11.11) are almost two-thirds those of the United States (17.61) . In my view GHG emissions per capita of China much higher than the average of GHG emissions per capita in the world

    For all the people congratulating China 😂: In terms of annual emissions, China has surpassed the combined emissions of the United States (the second-largest emitter) and the entire European Union. China's CO2 emissions have been reported to be around 11.4 billion metric tons in recent years, which is roughly twice the emissions of the United States.

      China is often labeled as the world’s largest emitter because it serves as the global manufacturing hub, producing goods for countries worldwide. However, critics frequently blame China for its emissions without considering the underlying reasons or the role of global demand in driving its industrial output.

    China just brought online brand new coal power plants. Solar doesn't work in the winter so you're stuck needing alternative power plants. They can't reverse emissions, but they could start reduce it.

    The ultimate question : when you can generate power with cost x (through coal ,etc..) or generate same power with cost 1.5 or 2x ( clean energy) which option will china choose ? We all know the answer to that . Saying that china emissions rose steadily from 4 GT in 2000 to 12 GT in 2023 and now suddenly they “peaked” is just an assumption , and “peaking” as the video mentioned can mean they are just slowing down, it doesn’t mean they are switching from coal to other cleaner sources , as long as coal is available and cheaper they will keep using it , anyone who thinks otherwise is clearly delusional

      there is an IEA report can answer your question. China spent 526 billion dollars in 2022 alone to build green energy generation. China coal based plant growth was reduced by 83% in 2023 and almost all of new energy capacity in the past 2 years are green energy. Green energy percentage is at 32% of all energy capacity

    • @xdhwowbob
      @xdhwowbob 7 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +2

      Also according to a report by Financial Times, Chinese electricity cost is the lowest in all industrial countries so China can already produce energy cheaper in green technology than coal based technology.

    • @skierpage
      @skierpage 6 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +7

      New coal plants are not incompatible with "peak carbon" because 1. Those coal power stations will run less and less because they can't compete when wind and solar are generating. 2. Many of the new coal plants are replacing older, less efficient, more polluting ones.

    • @merrychase9744

      @robinhood4640 6 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      But they do it to manufacture the stuff the US and Europe don't manufacture, which would be polluting the US and Europe.
      The modern coal power plants are more effective and pollute less than the older ones being taken out of service.
      You can't argue we can't stop burning oil at the drop of a hat and complain that China aren't stopping coal at the drop of a hat, at least they are making a huge effort to actually improve their emissions, which is more than can be said for the rest of us. Let's moan about the colossal efforts China is making to improve the situation, because they aren't colossal enough.
