  • Follow my hunting adventures as I beat cancer! I'm trying to enjoy the outdoors while recovering from chemotherapy. I still deal with the long term side effects of treatment but am making the most of my recovery.

Best of luck with your battle with the big C. I finished 29 radiation treatments and finally got out to hunt elk and deer this fall. No luck with elk but did get one of my best whitetail bucks after 50+ years of hunting. Last year, just before starting treatments, I was fortunate to get my first wolf after five years of trying, a 90lb silver male. Looking forward to seeing pictures or videos of your success.

Thank you! It’s been one heck of a ride so far! Congrats on beating cancer! 29 radiation treatments sounds rough! I didn’t have that option because my tumours had spread around my body-so only chemo after my relapse. Elk hunting is still a big feat, I haven’t had that opportunity but I hope one day! That’s an awesome story about the buck! Sometimes I think these things are meant to happen and teach us lessons! What did you do with the wolf? Did you make any fur hats? I’ll try my best to get a wolf!

@@CalvinCrispo Getting a wolf was a thrill for me and most difficult. So many miles and time out there. I made a wood stretcher for the whole hide and display it in my living room. Still struggling with my endurance but with every work out it seems to be a little better. Good luck and take lots of pictures of your wolf.

Your editing is always so crisp and clean! Do you have any experience trapping bobcats? I'm in Central Texas and I've tried SO hard to get one but they are the most elusive animal for me. I barely ever even see them on the trail cams, but I KNOW they're out there. Any tips?

Thanks! I have a great editor! We make a great team!
I haven’t trapped bobcats before. They’re carnivorous so I’d have a good quality bait. Try setting your camera near a water source. By seeing where and when the different critters drink you’ll be able to pattern them. I’m guessing it’s hot there so if natural water sources are scarce, try adding a watering hole. You’ll pull everything to that spot once they know it’s there. Even better if it’s on a game trail. Every animal needs water.

Appreciate that! I owe it to all those other warriors who were doing chemo with me!

In for the ride along. If it were me, I would "install" some brush for cover of that last 6' feet or so to get in the blind without being seen. I take my wolf hunting dead serious and would crawl that last 6' if I thought it would help. I like the rest of setup very well and wish you a heavy drag back to the road real soon. Blind camo looks great, really blends in well. Squeeeeeze that trigger, no jerking, Greg.

Thanks, Greg. I really appreciate the feedback. Comments like these help me a lot. I have a few dead trees nearby so I can add some good cover. I can sneak in very quiet but I’m always up for improvements. I haven’t seen any wolves yet but have seen a few foxes at 150-200 yards. I might consider a nice fox hat. Last night I saw two moose 🫎

I followed your advice and added some cover to the last 6 feet before the blind. Really appreciate it, Greg. You’ll see the update in part 2. Cheers

Next time bring an auger, or axe through the ice... bring a pot/cup & pour water on top of the bait pile... Better yet, shove a stick(log/pole) into the bait while its still thawed & let the stick(log/pole) freeze into the middle of the bait... Haul that out, then put bait upside down so the stick(log/pole) is in the ice hole then freezes.... Wolves won't be able to drag your bait away thus forcing them to stay on the bait longer!
