Food! ($70/week, total $300), Gas ($80/month), Hydro ($70/month). Everything else was in the $20-$50 range ( steamer, electric kettle, egg cooker, toaster). Why would I do budgeting when the bulk of my monthly expenses are vital (food, gas, hydro) and I cannot get around them? It does not matter how much we spend, what does matter is to spend wisely! Get the best value for money! Why would you do budgeting when you eat from Uber Eats or Dash? Just to free your time so that you have more time to do budgeting? 😄
Holy shit ur smart asf, this changed my whole perspective fr, I spend 8k+ a month on nun and literally have nun to show for it at the end of each month, it hits hard when I think bout all the shit I could but if I jus saved it. That’s not including rent or regular life expenses yenno. Fuccc I’m glad I found ur channel.
This is by far the best budgeting template I've used. I've tried others from TH-cam & online and found them too complicated or lacking in organization. This one is perfect and I will be using it going forward! The only thing I added was a 'credit cards' tab which was the same as the bank accounts tab.
I have tried A LOT of budget templates and yours is by far the most efficient and simple one to use for me, thank you for putting in the effort to create this and sharing it with us!!
Love the monthly breakdown recaps of your monthly budget. Helps to keep my yearly budget in check as well. Please keep them coming and good luck the rest of the year.
Absolutely loved using your budget template this past month! It actually took away a lot of my money stress as I was able to see how much I’ve actually been saving and it made me take a closer look at how my investments are doing. Love your content!
Love how simple and easy to use the tracker. Just would like know where the best place to add any outstanding debt on the tracker (i.e credit card, LOC…etc.)
Hey Steph and Den, where would I put/categorize my students loans in the budget Overview of the budget tracker? Would I put it under the Saving & Investing box or its own separate category & expense in the monthly budget box? Technically I'm "paying out" instead of paying myself so it doesn't seem to make sense in my head at the moment.
Cool stuff as always. Your grocery bill (total, not just your half) is roughly the same as mine (2 person household also) and that's a typical month for me. You can probably expect to see it increase though, as based on your past videos and this I know you guys shop mainly at Metro, and they've already announced they're restarting the gouging now that the price freeze is past.
I'm really liking this tracker so far but I have a question related to the explainer video (hope it's okay to ask here). I placed my debt payment category under the 'Stantard Budget' section, but in Steph's example, it went under 'Savings & Investing'.... should I moved it over or is it okay where it is, since we do contribute to it monthly?
@Steph can you please do a video explaining your budget tracker. It looks really good but i had a few questions. For example, for a new month (feb) do you duplicate tabs or do you just change month on these tabs? Because when i change the month on tab… the data for January disappears on Annual budget tab.
Hey! The budget template explainer video was in our newsletter - it went out on Thursday. Did you receive the email? 😊 Also, you should only change the month once - marking the first month of you using the template. Once you’ve filled out the ‘budget overview’ tab, the ‘monthly expense tracker’ tab becomes your go-to tab month to month.
Hi Steph! Im new to your channel and have been watching your videos as I am interested in investing. First things first, getting my budget together. Do you recommend paying off debt first before investing? What about the emergency fund, should we contribute to that before investing as well? Thanks! Xo
Hi! So glad that you’re here 😊 This is the order we recommend - ➡️ Pay off any high interest debt (for example: credit card debt) ➡️ Build an emergency fund (in a high interest savings account - ideally have enough money put aside to cover 3-6 months of your necessary expenses; we keep $10,000 in ours) ➡️ Start investing! For debt that’s at a low interest rate, it’s up to you if you want to finish paying it off prior to investing, or if you want to do both at the same time. Dennis personally decided to finish paying off all of his student loans before starting to invest (it felt better to have that fully checked off and out of the way). We hope that helps - let us know if you have any other questions!
Am I supposed to write every single transition on monthly expensive tracker or do I sum everting into their assigned category? If I do need to write every induvial expense am I allowed to add more boxes?
You give me hope that living in Toronto on a budget is possible 😅Also, I don't think TFSA contributions should count as "expenses", you only really spent $2159 in January, which is pretty impressive!
We buy meat + cleaning supplies in bulk from Costco every few months 😊 We don’t meal prep, mostly because we work from home and can cook throughout the day as needed!
@ Steph... I have been following you for quite a long time and I really like your videos but I think you talk a little too fast and I struggle to understand you I will appreciate it if you slow down a little just so that I can understand everything you're saying. Thank you !
Ha, I understand that feeling! 😅 Being within walking distance of most places helps, but we also take the bus / street car whenever we can! (I do feel like it’s harder to not hop in an Uber in the winter months, though)
What was your most expensive purchase in January? Let us know! 👀
a bed! i just moved to Canada
Bought a CD 25k
That’s a fun one! How’s the move been so far? 😊

Love seeing you breakdown ur monthly spend! Would love to see a day in the life of Toronto living/how to have a social life on a budget ☺️
Thank you! + thanks for the suggestion - that’s a good idea 😊

I second this!

It’s overwhelming to start a budget. But ok I’ll try it again!
You've got this! 🥳
Can you share budget video for Den as well so that we get an idea from his side too + portfolio updates of Den
I Love this budget video! How do you factor in insurance?

I'm usually under budget in the winter months, but there's so much fun stuff in the summer it's hard to rein back LOL
That’s a great point! 😅
I feel like I typically spend less in the winter too, but I still spent a lot on food in the past (no surprise there, ha!)

@@stephanddenty for this
Love a good budget breakdown!! I do similar budget breakdowns on my channel, but I am so nosy on how people spend their money!
Thanks, Gabby! Me too 😂

Thank you so much! 😊

If I started one for the month of September. Do I need to open a new file for October?

Love that! 🥳
Agreed, I don’t really think of it as an expense - but I find that it’s nice to track everything all in one place!
me too! LOVE that you're based in Toronto. Gives me hope. Trying to create a better budget template and this one's great! Thanks!
Wanted to mention, Lyft have better prices as compared to Uber most times! 😊
Thanks for sharing this! 😊
How do you budget let’s say for a new car 🚙? I’m not seeing sinking funds?
You can add that in the 'Saving & Investing' table on the 'Budget Overview' tab, then each month track how much you contributed to it 😊
I’m curious to know if you will bulk buy for groceries. Or meal prep
Just curious ❤

" how to budget like a rich b*tch " hahahaha I love you guys!
😂😂 glad you caught that!
Where is your top from?
Aritzia! It’s one of their ‘contour’ tops 😊
The Budget Tracking Template Link is not working on the website. The Download Link seems to be broken.
Thank you for letting us know! We're attempting to fix that now, and it should be back up very soon 😊
Yay!

Thank you for your comment + feedback! I try to talk slowly as much as possible, but sometimes the speed gets the best of me 😅
You can always slow down the playback speed to 0.75!
my most expensive was eating out, so i’m banned for february 😅. I’m trying to take less ubers too, how do you do it? 🥲
Ha, I understand that feeling! 😅
